  • Mingus must have forgotten to be human while composin this melodies!

  • The black saint and the sinner lady is the single most important piece of jazz music.

  • Am I wrong or is this record rarely mentioned in the same company of Kind of Blue, A love supreme et al.

Black Saint and the Sinner Lady remains the best jazz record I've listened to and its a shame its popularity remains limited in comparison.

  • LSD user beware.

  • My favourite jazz album,,who else at times finds this song incredibly distressing and other times purely blissful or even a mixture of both?

  • YESSSS

I was looking for this like two years ago and was sad cause nothing showed up

  • Soooo noir film ready. Every time I listen to this album I think about a seedy, black and white crime drama.

  • @Jordamo Yep me too, exactly...and its raining in my image, I see kind of swirls of rain

  • @Dreamwar black saint and the sinner lady is probs his best album

  • @NikpupMusic screw that, it's probably the best album period. It or Trout Mask Replica

  • @fat8622 Trout Mask Replica sounds like noise to me. Although I can appreciate the imagination of it and the fact that it influenced a lot of good artists.

Totally agree with you on this one, though. Amazing stuff

  • this is the greatest jazz album ever

  • Thanks, an amazing track

  • I don't know why people kept telling me to start with "Mingus Ah Um", I just ignored them and jumped right into this album, probably his magnum opus. Magnificent music.

  • This is the best song I've heard so far during my career of listening to classic rock and metal. I guess I'm lucky I'm 15 and have discovered jazz..

  • @Kaitano94 Im 15 too =) I listen to rock, progressive rock, jazz, metal, and even classical ^^. Im new into Jazz anyway... :D

  • @jcast18k Be careful. Jazz is all Iisten to now.

  • @Kaitano94 I didnt understand what you said :S

  • @jcast18k I meant: Jazz is thd only gere of music I listen to nowadays

  • mike you are lucky to hear that music at fifteen! If I can added other three album, take Pithecanthropous Erectus , Tijuana Moods, and Blues & Roots..

    bye

  • ANYBODY WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THE LIVE PERFORMANCES OF THIS COMPOSITIONS?

Must have heard it from a documentary, that there where live gigs with ballet dancers and manic solos,

anybody heard anything about the documentation of such performances?

  • @MIKEDURSTEWITZ

Grab the albums, "Mingus Ah Um", "Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus", "The Clown", and if you dig this kinda stuff "Let My Children Hear Music"

  • @AndrewMills1 dont forget "blues and roots."

  • Jesus, I haven't had a musical revelation like this since I heard A Love Supreme by Trane.

    Just plain awesome.

  • @DeeSniderTwisted Exactly the same happened to me, I became obsessed with The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, as I was obsessed with A Love Supreme. I guess that's how you recognise exceptionnal pieces !

  • omg i asked a question on yahoo anwsers about good jazz music and this is exactly what i was looking for. almost put me to sleep. in a good way.

  • the greatest jazz album indeed :]

  • My favorite Mingus record, and top five jazz records, of all time...for me:)

  • Gosh I love this album. Always will. Astounding.

  • Actually I don't know. Maybe theare are alternative take (you can have different version of the album and if it's an LP there is much higher probability that you have a different one from mine. After all, I think that all version are amazing. Mingus's stuff!!!! eheheheh thx ;-)

  • whoa, are there multiple recordings of this album? because this really sounds different from the one I have.

  • aaaaaaaaa!!!! my favorite album!

tnx so much for posting this gem!

  • quite possibly my favorite jazz album.

  • Thx Face! I'm glad to read your comment. I suggest you Mingus's Ah, Uhm and Pithecanthropous Erectus, two indiscuss masterpieces of him!

    Bye folks!

  • You know, I'm a casual jazz listener, I tend to listen to almost a little of everything. I've been listening to the likes of Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy (gotta love Dolphy), and some others for awhile...

But when I listened to this album it was a revelation. You can't get better than this, and that's why it is often cited as one of the greatest jazz recordings period.

I felt inclined to make a new song out of sampling the album, it's a modest effort from a novice, check it out though in my vids.

  • @cyurisich Oh well, to each his own. Remember what Hideo Kojima said: the best thing about art is how 100 people can look at is, scoff, and walk by before 1 person looks and is absolutely mesmerized by it. Celebrate opinion of all types, I say!

  • A fan of shitty ORTHRELM can't understand fucking Charles Mingus, that's obvious. No much wankery for you mister? Not fast enough? Oh noes they dont make VDG VDG, it must suck then!

  • @Ellionart Orthrelm are terrible, but it's not like this is any good either.

  • @Ellionart yes he can

  • you suck a huge amount, go away!! snobby little bitch

  • what... imposing different meters on top of each other to easy for you cyurisich? Your ears need to grow.

  • clueless much ?

  • 4:11 gets me every time. Amazing song. One of the best ever composed.

  • thanx!

  • vero!

Hahahaha
