  • The idea is good but it falls short with sub-par cinematography, a dull script, and too many high shots. But the director is truly amazing and the location is beautiful.

  • Beautiful

  • I can't get over how amazing I found this to be! (both before and after I knew the meaning of the narration) It's done perfectly.

  • this is amazing! My name is catherine :)

  • This is brilliant...

  • I'm french, I know English, I didn't understood the whole thing he said...

And i still love this... That mean, for me: this short film is awesome...

  • awesome!

  • Beautiful.

  • am a little bit not well understander of english so, did he suicide or ... ? If so, i dissagree with an idea but the quality of a movie is great.

  • I love the narrator's voice :)

  • HELLO PEOPLE♥

Could I grab your attention for 4 minutes, please? If you enjoyed this short film, I would like you to check out my short film as well. I am a young artist from London, and my short film 'Ashes' is available to be viewed on my channel. It is the first video that comes up.

Please view it and tell me what you think - I appreciate each comment, each view, each feedback.

    Thank you so much ♥

  • HEY! THE SPECIAL THANKS TO GUY LIVES IN MY TOWN! SWEET!

  • I'm not quite sure I understand the ending either. I don't know if the ending is an allegory of how his decision was irreversible after he left Katherine, or if the ending was intended to convey reversing his decision to leave Katherine. Beautiful film, though.

  • está bueno

  • good cinematography . i love the camera work . . . . . . .

  • It is his subconsciousness speaking or expressing the inner most feelings but the ego is preventing them to surface. It felt like a huge balloon that was just about to explode and when it did, did he realize the reality that a part of him still loves her.

  • Amazing film! So touching and love the locations!

  • Beautiful shots!!

Please consider watching my short film "KATARSIS". Just enter my account, roll down and select the last video on the list. The titles are in Spanish (I am Spanish), but as there is no dialog, you'll have no problem understanding.

    Best wishes.

  • Nice film but dear Godddddddddd, so sappy!

  • i don't understand the meaning of it!

  • @BethTelevision you arent alone :/

  • "sometimes i feel like i can just explode"

    haha ... you clever balloon

  • don't get the end when the guy reads the note and sort of gulps....can someone explain

  • i couldn't understand the meaning of movie ! :D

  • Really cool movie, I enjoyed watching it!

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • Ohhh!!! Wow people should know these are the balloons words! Not the guys! Listen to it again and the words make so much more sense!!

  • this is fucking horrible and pretentious. it won a film racing competition, sure... but simply because of production value . it would never win anything else ANYWHERE

  • @IbeJigsaw and this comment isn't pretentious? If you have to deal with your jealousy, deal with it off youtube, where people should be able to enjoy and post what they want, without people like you trolling around making idiotic comments meant only to piss people off.

  • @ThePanstory It's not meant only to piss people off.. why are you taking this comment so seriously? Not liking something = trolling? Are you kidding me? You know, for an impartial party, you're getting pretty personal. I'm assuming you were involved in the making of this. This is absolutely awful. Anything that calls so much attention to a metaphor is amateur hour at its finest. Honest opinion.

  • so u bought a heli and slapped ur 5D on it. and to make ur investment worthwhile you shot with it half of your movie in a never ending 2min sequence. that iss poor movie making dude. and you really needed that balloon ? comon.

  • But how can a balloon last for such long time ?

  • it makes sense.. balloons hate acupuncture..

  • Wow. I think you are all reading into this too much. This short tells a joke that is played on the viewer. We are only lead to believe, by the visuals and by convention, that the words are the man's. But they're not. They are all the balloon's. Listen to the text again from this perspective. Listen to the choice of words. It will make a lot of sense.

  • HOW THE HELL DID U STABALISED THE FIRST SCENE..pls forgive the caps..i really wanna know!!!

  • @EzeeMinecraft some lens have active stabilization, i'm not sure about the 5D (if thats what he is using), otherwise in post some programs such as vegas, after effects, and final cut can stabilize the footage as well.

  • that was...good

  • thumbs up~

    the QUALITY..the best~

  • brilliant.

  • 99.9% of short films are god awful. Congrats on being the .1%.

  • Very artistic, the balloon symbolising the rounded figure "catherine" was, perfect in form?

    And the colour symbolising substance?

just a wild guess, but a really interesting vid, keep it up

  • this is a very beautiful picture. nice nice work.

  • i make short films too. i need some constructive comments to improve. so please check out my channel. the short film is titled: Spectator of Happiness. :)

and very innovative and smart to use a toy helicopter to do the birds eye point of view. no crane needed :)

  • <3

  • The bursting of the yellow balloon signifies that the chance is taken from him. It's too late for him to make it all right. He had got a lot of chances that he'd blown before, why didn't he grab it? It's very unfortunate and sad that we always realize things when it's already too late.

  • @babysummergirl10 I think you miss the innocent humor of this story. The man is just an avenue for the balloon's suicide. The story, the letter, the narrative, has nothing really to do with the man.

  • WARP STABILIZER!!!!!

  • log

  • some part, i get it.some part, ...haha but nice one though! good job!

  • well I knew that the narrator is the letter that the balloon brought but I didnt understand some words in it. did that tell us about why their relationship won't work? and the balloon showing how their relationship going? is that all? what string attached means actually? kinda chemistry? haha my brain is going so slowly while watching this, but I'm sure this is a great film. anyway, at least i love all the angles and the way you shoot it.

  • Ever write a hate note? Now make it a hate note to a girl you used to love? The fact that you write one implies you still care about her. And the person in this film still cares about Kathryn. He cares enough to be shocked that she did not receive his message.

  • WoW! That was Great. I'm doing something similar in style to this, and I'm just wondering what you did to get the color grade,(such as bring down the saturation, Gamma ,etc?). Thanks, and again, great short film. You deserved to win.

  • I'm thinking that the balloon represents the wife and she committed suicide. I say this because yellow = 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Idunno.... ;)

  • I like it .. i don't get it =p.

I have a vague interpretation about ... By writing the letter he was letting go of stuff building up .. which burst the balloon. And him scrunching up the letter is him changing his mind. He just needed to get out for a bit.

But its all kind of hazy to me. But i don't think that's really important.

the letter and the visuals are both stunning.

  • The first thing I thought after I watched this, "Words will come back to haunt you"

  • Fantastic...... Well Done

  • the music is amazing! great job!

  • How is there dislikes on this? This short honestly blew me away.

  • I think good art makes you think alot. This is the 6th or 7th time I edited my posts because I think about more things everytime I watch the film. It still keeps me interested after the 8th watch. But I cant feeling that what I spelled out is stupid and redundant because it must have been many others that noticed it to (if my interpretation is close to the creators idea) since it didnt win prizes for no reason. In any case it's a beautiful work and will follow the film maker with interest.

  • He is the balloon. "The world as a (w)hole" part of the letter is a metaphor for him being the ballon. And everything thats happened has been blown into him. And instead of letting "the air" out bit by bit he's been collecting it there. Reaching for the ballon as he tries is impossible , iow impossible to control himself while being in the state he's in.

  • I think he's trying to say that in a relationship if you keep things inside you and not speak out about them they will cause you to makebad decisions you would not have if you had been honest about them."It was rough Catherine and I never wanted to lie to you. This letter serves to tell you that I cant lie anymore."By now your probably confused as to why im writing you such a vague intention. But the world as a whole has inflated me to this state. Sometimes i feel like I can just explode

  • you need to get famous! amazing amazing amazing film~

  • Dang that heli-cam was awesome!

  • I loved the story!!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree with cardfreak25. none of you are short story writers. your all just a bunch of eccentric, pretentious pricks. in my opinion every single short story film writer, (98 percent of em) should just go get a job in a camera store and stop kiddin themselves. if Bukowski was still alive he'd make a mockery of the lot of you.... and then make a short story from it that's more accessible. in terms of content this is a simple balloon = relationship and male put in awkward position.

  • This is really well shot and the colour grading is beautiful. Good job :)

  • How'd you get that multiple speed option on your player?

  • man.. this guy is a real film maker.. and i admire you by putting your canon 5d on an RC heli. Bravo bravo. You got guts man.

  • @laserboy1995 Was this video made with a Canon 5d ?

  • @laserboy1995 Are you telling me that that one, long incredibly clear and high-quality shot in the air chasing the car is from strapping a 5d to an RC helicoptor? but.... how?

  • loved that opening sequence,,using just the one shot,,nice job

  • So sad.

  • wwooaah what is speed option on youtube?

  • dude the shots were incredible good job

  • This is beautiful.

  • nice work!

  • That is awesome

Check Out The New Camera Mount CLamp

  • Is the balloon from his past? This is his life now after he gave Catherine the balloon and it came back to him?

  • yes the narrator is the balloon, and the balloon is an image of relationships in general. How fast they can end, how they start out with no strings attached, then you're attached etc..

  • What kind of Heli did you use?

  • Confused

  • Pretty much the dissapointment of a fairwell. Haha

  • how did you get the camera to move at the same speed as the car?!

  • Is the whole thing shot on Canon 5D? Or Panasonic?

  • I imagine, everything that was being said was what he was actually thinking to himself, and while out on a walk, when the balloon appears with a note of everything he's just said, it freaks him out and he crushes it and puts it aside. In other words, he thinks it, but when it's out loud, on paper, in front of his eyes, he can't handle it, so pushes/screws it up and puts it to the back of his mind. That's just what I got from it. It's a metaphorical tale rather than something actually happening.

  • Production value great, simple but great. Now the most important thing of all, the story, lacking. I think maybe a simple inclusion earlier on with the balloon might have helped but I'm still not sure. The narration doesn't tie in with the story. Basically the only conflict is him reaching for the balloon unable too. If you need to explain it in the end then that's not a good sign. Best of luck and keep up because you do have talent!

  • @cardfreak25 If you pay attention to the narration, you'll see that it ties everything together "inflated me to this state", "I feel a could just explode", "you always said no strings attached" etc. The narrator is the balloon.

  • @Funnylovefunnylife Now watching it again I found it more misleading then the first time, is the narrator the balloon? is it a man who wrote this letter? Is this a metaphor about his inner psyche? What is the purpose of the balloon narrating? What's the conflict? Is there actually a story in the short film? @Coisofication if what you say is true then this is not a story, it is was an alternative/artistic way to express an idea the author had rather then a story. No character, no goal.

  • @cardfreak25 Minus the "was" in the second to last sentence.

  • (.......To everyone who didn't get it; the man who was the main focus of the video WAS NOT the narrator. The narrator was the balloon. ["Before birthday parties.... I was over everyone's head...])

  • @AlliKatNya It totally makes sense once you said it.

  • @AlliKatNya could you explain the meaning of the short film

  • @Coisofication Uh... I'd say the film was simply trying to show how people in general are really quite blind when it comes to "understanding" in general. You assumed the narrator was the man in the video, right? In doing so, you've made an incorrect assumption without even knowing it. I think all this film's trying to say is, think a little harder about information you're absorbing, and don't always assume the most obvious explanation is fact.

  • Great job Keith! I really enjoyed working with you on Thr33, and I'm glad to see that you're still keeping at it.

  • @ 3:21 you can see through the balloon..was the balloon done in post?

  • the ending was unclear...

  • dude, i havent watch this yet,but its seen great short film.im apply to Tisch School of the Arts next year.any advises for application.Did u had any experience behind the camera before appling, like done some local school or something.thanks,

  • kinda reminds of of Damien Rice's song 9 Crimes

  • if you all are aspiring filmakers that need inspiration, search "The Harrison House Trailer" on youtube.

best indie horror I've ever seen, shot for only 600 bucks

  • Can everyone stop talking about the helicopter, and how these shots were taken. And someone please explain thhe whole meaning of this film, because i didn't understand it. :(

  • wow.

Really want to have a go at filming with a 5D.. attaching it to a RC helicopter is a great idea because their light ae. Amazing shots.

  • Is that Josh Hartnett I hear?

  • This is amazing :D I am using a Kodak Zi8 until I can afford my DSLR - Probably a Canon 550D as my first, and a decent lens, such as 1.4 USM or 1.8 II.

  • @mamakunem That would've been cool, but no :)

  • You have a wireless attachment for play back for the air shots?

  • @breakinmyballs23 Yes, wireless video rx/tx

  • It's not about the story. It's about the feeling the film evokes.

  • Visually gorgeous, but I didn't quite understand the story indeed...

  • brilliant camera work...amazing film...

    thanx for sharing.

  • This is seriously an amazing piece of work....I would say its better than most shit covering our "boxes of voidless shite" that we have to "entertain"....seriously impressed, keep up the good work, ive recently just bought myself a Zi8 Kodak so I can start some hi-def filmmaking (being a drama student and all) and its really inspiring....great work...

  • There are many ways to interpret this but I think it is either two things, either what Spces8472 said about being a pipedream and never following through. Or maybe the balloon was Katherine, and maybe he feels like he killed her by writing the note, he does pop it with his stick. Or maybe "katherine" was actually him and all those things he wrote were about him.

  • Gone Goodbye.

I might be wrong, but was it him going to leave his wife via this nice, romanticized, rosy picture, then going to sit with his thoughts, only to realize it was a pipe dream, and he'll never gain the strength to follow through? Bursting his own balloon to what he really wants?

  • Brilliant cinematography. Story was quite difficult to understand.

  • Beautiful. The cinematography is simply awesome.

  • Another thing... What lens? Which location? Amazing work! :)

  • @siddharthrajsoni Canon 5D with several different lenses, 24-70mm L, 50mm prime, a few others. Rattlesnake Lake near North Bend, WA

  • Okay you put a Canon 5D II on a Radio controlled helicopter. That's great... How did you maintain focus in all your amazing floating shots?

  • @siddharthrajsoni Stop the lens way down to have a deep focal range. You sacrifice light, but it's the only way to do it without a long range wireless focus puller which equals big bucks.

  • Fantastic work. Truly inspiring.

  • what kind of RC heli u used please? have ugot some making of scene ? :)

  • @freeskierBALKINS Custom heli designed by Tabb Firchau of Aerial Pan

  • beautiful......

  • this es so good .. nice shot, nice apply rule of thirds...good work

  • i reallyy dont understanddd.........

  • excellent camara work.

  • I figured it was an RC helicopter. but how did you get the camera to pivot. Was there a control or was that just from the RC angling when it moved forward?

  • @sgtppr There was a 3 axis radio controlled gimbal attached, so one pilot for the heli, one for the camera.

  • @Session7Media how much does a system like that go for - gimbal and heli

  • cazzo....

  • i think he nkilled himself

  • i love the atmospheric music and then how the tension is broken by the popping of the balloon, very clever and good tone of the narrator.

  • HI, can you please type here all the dialogues? Can you please type here contents of the letter?

  • HI, can you please type here all the dialogues? Can you please type here contents of the letter?

  • Wow... good pilot!

  • Nice! What crane did you use for this and was it attacthed to a truck or?

  • @4200four We used an RC helicopter with a Canon 5D attached

  • @Session7Media how did you attach it? Weren't you scared for the life of your 5D?

  • @Session7Media What a freaking BAMF

  • @Session7Media I was gonna ask how you got those shots... That was really good! I'd be scared to death to send my camera up on a helicopter, a damn gust would bring it to the ground in pieces, lol. How did you get the angle to change up in the air, I mean it looked like it was angling up, down, and around as you were flying.

  • Now I have to add a helicopter pilot to the list of needed crew members.

  • @Session7Media thats like a definition for havin balls.. attaching your canon 5d on a heli and make shots:P great work m8.. can you tell me more about the heli? howmuch would something like that costs? i bet it needs quite some lifting power to carry the canon?

  • @lifeartpixels A Trex 700 RC Helicopter would work pretty well and costs around $1,000. The RC gimbal to control the camera is about $400, plus a wireless video feed is another few hundred, so you could assemble the whole thing for under $2,000, not including your camera. Then you just have to learn to fly it without crashing :)

  • @Session7Media sounds awesome! a bit over budget concidering i just started getting interested in this whole thing.. but ill definately keep it in mind! thanks

  • @Sahilian I guess "Katherine" read the letter and then she "let him go" by tying the letter to a balloon. Now the guy can go in peace i suppose. That was my interpretation.

  • youtube.com/user/latenightlogic

  • this is beautifully sad. . . i dont know if that makes sense, but to me it does </3

  • nice work. I think, the yellow balloon, was a good idea.

  • question was the guy reading the letter katherine?

  • wow :) Thank you

  • No words! 10 ++++!!!!!

  • Enjoyed...thanks

  • Frek I dont get it :( watching it again

  • "But there are always strings attached..."

    Incredibly touching film!

  • Ahhh.

    Nevermind.

After a second watch it all made sense.
