  • Pretty sure I can fillet a fish cleaner and faster. Watch some instructional videos, dude. It should be a clean cut.

  • how to fillet a fish go to mcdolands

  • I think, you have to leave filleting to someone else, at least don't teach! It takes just about 30 sec to fillet a pike-perch skinless.

  • Go get a Rapala electric knife and use it to fillet your fish. The walleye charters Capt. on Lake Erie use this method and it makes yours look like molasses in January. Try it. You'll love.

  • Hey man you make good videos! keep up the good work :)

  • worse filleter ever!!!

  • @tuffboy11 Possibly, but they all seem to be pretty bad on you tube. Have only found 1 or 2 that are OK. Have asked a friend to video me and upload, will happen soon i hope. I only consider myself to be average pro, but think i am better than 99% i have found on here. Look up. so, you wanna fillet a spanish mackeral? Pretty good for a guy who catches them all day and then has to fillet them.

  • Good video bro, wish we could go catch sum fish... Peace too you..

  • not bad not bad at all

  • Your prety good I tryed this on a blue gill and totally mested up, but i want to start catching bass and i was wondering if you can help me out? ^). Like tell me whats the best luers and ways to use them

  • Thanks for the help

  • Finally a black guy who can dig fishing and hunting!!! Nice job man!!! Oh yeah by the way I have carved up hundreds of fish with my $9.00 Wal-Mart brand knife, still works like a charm.

  • @guzman101 i know you meant well, but jeez..... >.>

  • @mikallang Really dude, is saying "black guy" make you that uncomfortable? Guarantee the guy who made the video didn't think twice about it. A black guy can call you a white person to your face and expect no repercussions but I can't say black? Sounds like you might be a closet racist. Again nice video journeytheoutdoors.

  • @guzman101 I understand what you saying, your intentions are not negative or derogatory at all. Some people do not understand things like that. I took a international cultures class and in result desensitizes me to stereotypical statements like that, The class also gives you the education to take advantage of the moment and enlighten people to their error of their ways.

Hunt hard, hunt safe, God Bless.

    -Dave

  • @journeytheoutdoors I see that at the end of your comment you say,"...enlighten people to the error of their ways." Let me just say that you all are still not hearing what I am saying. I am a half Mexican/Caucasian Mormon. You don't think I ever dealt with prejudice? All I am trying to say is; it's refreshing to see a "black guy" not try to play the stereotype. My friend, I know you are a man of wisdom but hear what I am saying Dave. I do not need "enlightenment".

    -Much love man

  • I wish I watched this before all of those fucking Expert Village videos...

  • Very nice thanxs for posting

  • wow no lie on the wal-Mart knife...

  • IF you want to come to Florida I will take you fishing. We can go in Freshwater, Brackish water and the gulf!!!

  • PRO

  • That is not the way to fillet a fish. Your knife is not sharp and your method is very amateurish.

  • @toomuchrose lets see your video.

  • @toomuchrose

I'm with Reymius on this one.

  • sam-mon not saw-mon.

  • Not a good job at all. You kinda butchered the hell out of the fillet & left a lot of good fish on the body. Clumsy & not explained well. Your video quality is horrible. Especially for trying to instruct people. By the way, your technique needs lots of help.

  • i have that same knife.......i spent like 15 bucks for mine and i love it

  • all about recycling! dont forget fish stock with those carcasses :]

  • The motions run through here are good.

Just one subtle note that I would make with respect to the knife. A sharp knife is more important than anything. It can be a butter knife a bread knife or whatever as long as it's sharp.

The subtle point to make is in the motion with which you cut. Try not to saw at the fish with your knife, because this causes irregular edges to form that can lead to the meat being less accepting when you cook it. Smooth, deliberate and fluid cuts are best.

  • PLEASE GET A SHARP KNIFE!!

  • kfc flavoured fish :P

  • Man I am sorry but that knife realy sucks, otherwise good work

  • love the vids

  • That's one of the poorest attempts I've seen! Why embarrass yourself videoing it ha ha ha

  • realy nice vid it reminded me of a cook show but nice sized fish

  • Wish I watched this the day before yesterday. I am a professional fisherman (Tournaments and Guiding) but I never keep anything. I decided to keep a Redfish and really hacked it up. I still ate it so that it did not die in vane.

  • fastest fillet but the video is 9 min long hahahahha

  • Dear Next time, can you turn the light on?

  • That is deffinitely the best way I've seen it done

  • it's so nice not hearing someone say "fillit" for the first time.

  • This is the easiest and best way that we have ever seen

  • the fish get stiff nigger im not waiting AWHILE.

  • did u ever cut out the bones on the second filet??

  • Great video , but you might want to consider a better camera so your watchers can see more clearer. But clearer is not always a good thing

  • Did you clean the fish before you kept it overnight?

  • ohh man....if that fish wasn't dead....it would be laughing at this guy trying to cut fillets.....kkkkk

  • I work at a fish market and we use the second side method on trout and whitefish. with a high quality knife you can filet in one quick motion down the spine, no need for an electric knife. You need a camera man lol!

  • this guy sucks. hes leavin out the good belly meat and the 3 dollar reman knives are better than those store bought ones

  • best knives ive used are those remanufactured ones that you can buy for like 3 bucks. keeps the edge longer than the store bought ones

  • This is really good. I have never done this, so I appreciate the instruction.

  • Great vid

  • You're black.

  • @lyo00011 lol???? haha

  • @lyo00011 : yes he is black.

I asked myself the same question.

  • So do u do by camping? Have you ever been Elk hunting? What species/ animal is it that would be your dream hunt of a lifetime?

  • That is excellent keep up the good work man , simple and straightfoward how long you been into hunting and fishing??

  • I've hunting and fishing for 12 years

  • @journeytheoutdoors that's cool dude. hunting and fishing 2 oldest professions on earth

  • @journeytheoutdoors

i am 13 and i hunt and fish and ice fish and i eat everything i kill eccept squrrels and skunks

  • @tristancooper1997 why not squrrels

  • @valstar1000 nasty

  • @tristancooper1997 I think that is awesome. A lot of people keep things away from children that is unnecessary because there is a lot of growth and confidence that comes from being able to do things yourself.

  • @kiminokami

is that a good thing or a bad thing

  • @tristancooper1997 It's good. I like that you were given the opportunity to be good at something and have the hobbies you want, as long as they are not immoral.

  • @kiminokami my dad taught me how to shoot when i was 6

  • @tristancooper1997 Don't let anybody take that away from you. Being more able to do things and more independent, while being responsible, is always good. You should feel good about yourself.

  • @kiminokami i do dude i shot my first deer with my dad it was 7pt and 115 lbs

  • @tristancooper1997 Did you clean it, butcher it, portion it, cook it and eat it?

  • @kiminokami my dad cleaned it and my grand pa jim cleaned it

  • @mythic89 Agreed

  • good quality at walmart? get out

  • yes really hahaha, it stays sharp as a rapala.

  • @journeytheoutdoors rapala is art walmart too

  • sloppy!

  • i have a question.

why for some fish you could slightly make cuts in the heads and pull them off(with the insides still connected) then remove the insides.

while others you have to cut through the gills first and then make cuts in the belly and remove the insides.

  • its the way the fish is made, and how wide he is.

  • Awesome, thanks Dave! Never filleted a fish before and was looking for how to do it. Your video helped me a bunch!

  • thanks tote, its my pleasure to help a fellow Utuber

  • Nice work.

  • This should take 1-3 minutes, NOT 9!!!

  • thats the most pathetic filleting ive ever seen

  • do a respond video and show us then.

  • Turn the water off...I need to pee!

  • hahahaha thats the fish tank!

  • nice!! thanks man

  • Thanks for the tips man... Glad I found your videos! Keep 'em coming!

  • thanks a lot senor

  • hey man, I though, you wanted to sing a hip hop song rather than to fillet a fish :)

  • hahaha you never know what you might see on the show!

  • You seem like a really nice guy in your vids. Wish I had a buddy like you to do hunting and fishing with! Keep up the good work and great vids!

  • thanks gardogg65 that means alot as I welcome you guys into my home through videos it means alot. thanks again

  • thats not good at all

  • i have seen your other videos dude you are a great help : )

  • great vid...

    jesus saves

  • thankyou, praise the Lord!

give a man a fish, he eats for a day,

teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime!

  • teach a man to pray for a fish, and he dies hungry.

  • hahahaha

  • Meat isn't as fresh when you leave the guts and so-on over night, but that's my opinion

  • Great vid. Filleting is the only way to go even though my grandmother insists on still cleaning fish. I tried to tell her filleting does not waste but you know how old timers can be.

Oh yeah, I've got the same knife. It's great and inexpensive. It works and I don't get crazy worrying about messing it up.

  • i totally agree, wal-mart should be paying me for this! haha

  • seems a bit slow to be called fastest fillet. Knife technique can be improved i believe. But to be honest i have never filleted that fish .

  • yeah filleting a saugeye,

    its bone city! hahaha

  • you dont need an electric knife you just need a sharp knife to go through the rib cage. any fillet knife can get razor sharp if you know how to sharpen it but the cheaps ones wont hold an edge for more than a few fish. you are right about the meat being more firm when its cold and a knife cutting easier. in the winter they are always like that when it comes time to fillet. good video

  • I agree 100% with you i can out fillet some guys with a electric knife.

    thanks for watching.

  • do the saugeyes have bones along their lateral line? not the rib bones but the other smaller ones most fish have. i fish for walleye and have caught a few sauger so i would imagine there are also saugeye were i fish. i have never kept a sauger cuz they are usually small in the lake i fish but i will try one the next time i get one.

  • no they dont they just have the rib cage

the main thing is to have a sharp knife and your correct the saugeyes in lakes are usally smaller hard to find big ones!

good luck they are tasty! hahaha

  • i only cut through bones with my electric knife...i used to have that knife...i like the wood handles better though...other than that that knife was ok...nice vid

  • thanks, it is inexpensive to replace and

    good quality for doing this

also it works great at deboning meat!

  • Man, this was great! I'm 40 yrs old and just started fishing last year. I destroyed a knife not knowing what I was doing and have been scaleing and cleaning fish since then. I cant wait to catch some and try out this tech. Do you have any faith in fishing almanac's? Thanks again.

  • Nice job showing a couple of methods. Good yield too.

  • thanks man it taste good too! hahaha

  • hey this helped alot seriously because im like 15 and i just bought 2 fishes and need to help fillet the fish for my mom and u know what, i did ok not that bad though since i never filleted a fish be4 and great job man :D

  • thanks nic,

I'm glad my video helped you, this is why I make them. congrads on a good job too

I'm sure your mom was proud.
