ok, in renoise, if you use the same instrument (usually vst) in a different track, the two sounds will blend together in one track and sound real crappy.
The YM uses squarewaves for audio generation. A square wave can be produced with just 1 bit, 1/0, On/Off. Yes, you could say that each channel had a bit depth of just one bit (if you took away the volume envelope)
Sounds damn amazing, dude. I run Linux, and Renoise's playback function is really crackly, as I don't want to sacrifice WiFi for a realtime kernel. However, if I ever get around to it, I'll link you to some of my stuff. I use Schism (basically Impulse II) a lot.
cheers for this vid man its ace i try to make 8bit in renoise (all though my primary style is idm glitch break kinda thing)i even use ymvst but ive never got it sounding this amazing your a god :)
cheers ive been looking for using in renoise more 8bit vsti's at the moment i use tweakbenches: toad, peach, triforce, padwan and a few others as well :)
I agree! Maybe we should get someone to use some chiptune tracks in today's music. Or record part of the song with chiptune sections and blend them in with real sampled backing tracks. BTW, where can I get a copy of the plugin used in this song and is it Mac compatible? Or even better, what about a Midi controllable SIDStation like device based on a YM chip like on the Atari ST, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum, but with resonant filter, high pass filter, etc?
Thanks. Try a google search for ymVST for the plugin. If you're interested in controlling something like a SID or a YM through MIDI, im sure there are some good projects around (e.g. search for Midibox).
ooo i like...different than all the nexus crap commin out although I admit I use nexus cause it's crap to learn concept of sound but this song rox and is unique!
Hey I just checked out your website and listened to some of your songs. I especially liked the "Raptor Level 7 remix", not only does it sound awesome but I'm glad to meet another fan of one of the greatest 2D shooters ever made. (or at least a fan of the soundtrack)
I got it running on cubase just fine, you can use some great delays on there to give the singular notes some depth. And you build ontop of each one then in the sequencer.
My only trouble with it is trying to make beat sounds. Hihats, thomping beats.. no luck :(
I think there are some websites that give you some information on how to construct snares/kicks out of noise + a square wave. Hihats are basically just really short high-pitched noises.
Ive always wanted to make this kind of music (big atari st fan). I have cubase sx3 and compose things on there for myself (rewired with reason for alot of instruments like piano and especially reason drum kits 2.0).
But how can you get this to work on cubase sx3? Please let me know if you know :D
I'm not really familiar with Cubase, but I think you should be able to use the software in combination with some vintage hardware (through MIDI) or VST chiptune plugins (which I use).
what software/tracker did you use this plugin with?
