The beginning of this video absolutely sets the mood for the movie. From about 13 seconds into the clip where it shows the citizens of the town all impaled together and the camera pans back to show the 300 looking on I feel the message "this is what happens if you fail" come through very strongly...this opening easily goes into my top 3 favorite opening clips I've ever seen, very powerful.

...skeletal structure is much sturdier (due to the modern diet), so comparitively it doesnt realy work, the spartans where the top warriors of there time (at least in greece and persia), todays soilders fight against all different kinds of foes, whereas spartans mainly fought other greeks and persians in hoplite formation, or something similar, still i have alot of respect for marines and any soilders in general, its a tough job and i respect that, though doubtless some people love it.

you cant compare warriors from different eras, spartans were trained from when they where children, weak children where killed, they had to steal there food etc etc, a marines training (or the training of any modern soilder) would not compare to that of a spartan, however the equipment, tactics and mobility of modern soilders far outstrips that of the spartans, if it was something along the lines of hand to hand combat, then the marine would probaly win, there diet is much healthier there...
