  • GREAT STUFF, SUN! ONE LOVE!

  • Love It, man. Spankin Good.

  • Awesome. I appreciate that you're keeping this great music alive! Keep it up, bro!

  • not bad young man, you really start to cook @ 02:50. some nasty, nasty riffs. good job. looks like you have done your homework and allowed james' feeling to pull the funk out of you. well done.

  • @ 4:08, o.m...G!!! so, so funky... i actually tear up @ this point with emotion. the funk overflows out of you like a volcano. excellent, excellent. keep playin' brother. bootsy would be proud!!!

  • Not bad! This isn't an easy groove to play.

  • This fella is good but Bootsy Collins and the late James Jamerson are great

  • I'm not a bassist, but are you giving us too much of the walk and not enough of the pocket?

  • I'm a professional bassist and can tell you that James Brown is among the toughest stuff you can play on a bass. You can't play this by 'feel' or 'groove' because the accent on the one makes it opposite of everything else that bass players play. Bootsy said it took him months to figure out how to do it. It takes military precision, which is what James demanded of his band.

  • Really good towards the end. You found your own funk groove.

    Retsevlis

  • You play well but need to get that thumb back on the other side of the neck and keep your left hand fingers straight, not slanting toward the top of the neck. You'll be able to play this more easily and without moving your hand so much.

Check out some funky Jaco Pastorius basslines (Dry Cleaner From Des Moines, In France The Kiss On Main Street, Come On Come Over) and you'll see that good left hand technique really helps out when playing the funk.

    Cracking video though, nevertheless.

  • Man, the comment and compliment above looks and sounds like it was written by Hearlon "Cheese Martin," one of James Brown's great funk guitarists. I'm a sax player and don't know much about playing guitar, but if Maceo Parker or St. Claire Pinckney (great JB saxophonists) ever gave me some advice, I'd certainly heed it.

  • Bass Players...

Time to take out a pencil and a notepad...

Bass 101 is NOW in session...

  • amen man, amen,

  • Pretty dope playing, man.

  • PERFECT!!!

  • yeah man

  • fair enough

  • my bass teacher would have assaulted me for that thumb placement but it sound good to me

  • no where else to go when the pick-ups are covered...

  • fretting hand, fretting hand......

  • hes using his thumb though.

  • THATS WHAT IM TALKIN BOUT RITE THERE!!!

Man, you are knockin the snot outta that bass... funk at its finest..

  • Wow, I can't believe you can play this one! I used to stay up at nite when I used to play bass in a band and dream of doing stuff like this.

  • This bassline provides a good boost to make love optimally: hips move easier.

  • Therefore, a chick can be said: "Girl, I wanna funk you good".

  • The absolute nastiest version James and crew ever cut of Give It Up or Turn It Loose.First heard it on the "In The Jungle Groove " album. This version adds the live track.

  • that was GREAT!

    that bass sounds spectacular....

  • Thanks!

  • @jamersonshook Nice job!

  • Nice job!

  • @oreopenis great chops! is that a '62 Fender reissue bass?

  • Damn! After watching this I'm ashamed to say I've been playing it wrong...

  • That probably doesn't matter much - I put these up as little tributes to the originals, but we should all try to be ourselves when we play live!!

  • bad ass again! great playing, great lines , bootsy and james rule.

  • Thanks!

  • SWEEEET!

    (subsribed)

  • Cheeeers!

  • What about Bootsy's Rubber Band stuff? Would love to see a cover of any of his Space Bass riffs.

  • I'm not worthy!! Maybe one day...

  • hey man honestly i can say as a metal/irish guitarist just watchin you wants me to pick up a bass and funk it up. you rock man more videos please!

  • Cheers to you too. and a little update on me diggin the bass: just learned Stayin alive by the Bee Gees and jammed it with my band.

  • Cheers

  • Damn! I love this one! Absolutly funky brother! I'm a drummer and I would buy you if I could, I can tell you that! :-) Where you from?

  • Thanks! I'm from near Manchester, England

  • well damn nice jamming!

  • ok. before you get to the end you drop some nasty fills! is that all you or is their a version of this song i dont know about.

  • That's me just jamming...

  • Nice pocket. Fender bass rules.

  • Again, post the studio version. It gets deeper into the groove. Plus it's slower.

    Great effort. Keep striving.

  • Cheers guys!

  • Once again. God you're funky!

  • thanks so much! i been dying to learn this one! now i almost got it down thanks mysterious bass guru!
