  • I love how Korskov's Schehazade is used in so much of the soundtrack. <3

  • So apparently Tack knows judo xD

  • Am I the only one reminded of Corvax?

  • 0:29-1:27 MINDFUCK! MINDFUCK! MINDFUCK!

  • The thief running around in the palace....were there no guards?! lol

  • HOLY SHIT. the animation is so damn fluid... i thought MLP FIM was smooth, but this is literally God's own animation.

  • so glad there's no music in this :)

  • meaning songs.

  • is the king half-asleep finger banging his whore or what?

  • Why doesn't anyone start a petition to have this masterpiece completed?

  • @loganabeauchamp Hey man, you start a petition or something on Facebook, and I'll sign it!

  • The sweet sound of this version NOT having songs that are bland, forgettable and lazy as hell.

  • I have to say Richard William's original version of this has some of the most beautiful and fluid animation I have ever seen in a feature film, even better than most Disney films. Yet Disney never spend decades working on a single feature length film. I wonder how many more years it would have taken Williams to finish this film if money and deadlines were never an issue. I guess we'll never know.

  • I think this is the only time in the movie where the Thief puts self-preservation over his ongoing quest to acquire shiny shit.

  • omg zig zag has 3 finger joints! [1 more than usual]

  • This king is always so tired. Maybe hes got diabetes or something.

  • HOLY CRAP THIS MOVIE IS LIKE 1000X BETTER WITHOUT THE THIEF'S STUPID COMMENTARY IN THE OTHER VERSION

  • The most awesome animated chase scene... EVER

  • Th-The Thief's an asshoole...

  • 6:27 Double rainbow XD

  • Is anyone else sort-of reminded of Yellow Submarine?

  • @dburger12 Definitely, makes sense since it was around the same time. Truly an unusual time for animation, but creative! ;D

  • I have an extremely vague memory of watching the Miramax version when it was in theatres. In fact, the only part I actually remember was him swiping the backscratcher.

  • this is fucking MC Escher's house.

  • 3:52 At first, I thought that kicked-up dirt was blood o_O

  • 06:27 Is there a double rainbow I see?

  • Is it just me or is it still hard to believe that EVERYTHING was drawn by hand?!?

  • @redkipper28

I know right?? There's GOT to be some CG up in this bitch> D:

  • @DoubtfulGrace Trust me ground breaking animation existed long before CG. ;)

  • @DoubtfulGrace The production on this movie started back in the 60's! CG wasn't even around back then!

  • The music throughout this version is gorgeous.

  • The scene with the polo ball is HILARIOUS. I laugh every time I see it!

That chase scene? HOLY SHIT-OLEY. If that's not a labor of love, I don't know what is. And the work paid off. I love that scene to death, always. It's so trippy and fun to watch.

Oh, and FUCKING VINCENT PRICE FOR THE MOTHERFUCKIN' WIN.

  • this movie is gorgeous and also pretty trippy. The chase scene in the black and white maze blows me away.

  • Don't you just love how none of the original voices made it to the recobbled cut except for zig zag??? That's because VINCENT PRICE RULES!!!!

  • 6:28 - Double Rainbow all the way!

  • @QuorthonandCronos Drawing that scene out is significant, because it shows how difficult it was for the man to get on his horse in order to warn the city of the impending invasion. He miraculously staved off his own death just long enough to allow the prophecy to come true (which specified that Tack would save the day). The man was shot full of arrows, and it was a tremendous struggle to climb over the mountain of dead and dying to get on the horse.

  • That chase seen must have been directed by MC Escher. That scene alone is enough to see the love this movie has invested in it.

  • We should set up a charity to have this film restored!

  • @Rosebunse I'm in!

  • That thief has some serious balls.

  • I just can't get over how beautiful this film is. Not just in the detail of the animation but in the details of the characters as well.

  • The video stopped and lagged a bit here and there because it couldn't handle the sheer awesomeness of the animation.

  • I DEMAND A REBOOT!

  • I wonder how it would have turned out if One Eye was a silent character too.

  • 5:05 - The second time a richard williams movie has had the villian acheive erection with his facial hair.

The fact that i had to type that... >.<

  • This whole recut film reminds me of a mix between Fantasia and the Secret of Kells...which is AWESOME. Hope we one day get a HD, full artwork complete version one day!

  • @falloutjames This fim INSPIRED the secret of kells. ^^

And i'm holding out for stuff to add to this version, like the Buba/ Meemee subplot and Oriental Dragon. This was meant to be the War and Peace of animation, dammit. not just any damn film.

  • AWESOMENESS

  • I wonder if the thief sequences inspired the Scrat sequences of a movie that came decades later.

  • I can't get over how good that moment is at 6:18

It's the most cinematic thing i've seen in a long time.

    A true masterpiece

  • one eyes?

    pata pata pata pon

  • Hooray for golden balls!

  • 5:06 Wait... did Zigzag just used his hands to perform the "curves" motion? O.o

  • MINDFUCK !!!

  • ...why is the ball chasing him?

  • I like the part where he doesn't fucking sing and isn't Matthew Brodrick.

  • @AndrewDangerously not to mention the lack of annoying inner monologue

  • I DEMAND MORE OF THE CHASE. TOO SHORT.

  • if i was the the guy at 8:21 I would take the flag pole out of my spine before moving. It might wave down the bad guy giving a speech a few yards away. Just saying.

  • The animation is cool, but it seems like they're putting the cart before the horse... the animation should be a vehicle for storytelling, and so far the story is absent.

  • @ChortortleC Yeah but if you think this story is absent, you should check out the butchered versions. ;)

  • @ChortortleC here it is the opposite way, it's animation at it's pinnacle, it is all about the animation, it is the masterpiece, the main art form in this movie

  • The chase is like Benny Hill meets M. C. Escher

  • Hear that? It's the sound of Matthew Broderick NOT being there to muck up Tack's performance. Glorious silence!

  • @SpamLizzo No one there to muck up the Thief either

  • I'm pretty sure that One Eye's words invoked the power of the Irony god and brought that guy back to life.

  • Wow thank you so much for putting this up, I saw the polo-pony scene on tv when I was little, I remembered it for years but wasn't sure what it was, now I'm studying animation in my spare time, can't believe what an intriguing gem this is.

  • Man, that chase segment was trippy as hell

  • i've never seen the released one before, but what alot of people have said i probably won't watch it now, but after watching the directors cut, this is probably one of my favorite animated kid movies ever.

  • 3:45 One thing that just doesn't add up in the Recobbled Cut, The Princess and The Cobbler, and Arabian Knight: how Zigzag even knows the words 'Play ball!' which didn't appear until sometime in America in the late something or other century.

  • @spiritgirl41192 well, that's a slice of USA thrown in there.

  • @spiritgirl41192 A wizard did it.

Literally, he's a wizard. Sees the future and such.

  • 6:25 DOUBLE RAINBOW

  • 0:28-on was some of the most inventive play on abstract imagery ever seen. I've always loved how Tac is chasing the thief along the checkered floor only to end up a floor below the thief.

HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE thanx for this upload. Even when I saw the Disney version, I could tell they chopped the hell out of it due to the off editing. I'd always wondered if there was a cut version out there somewhere. Thank you for giving this to us. Awesome!

  • @alekesam um their wasn't a disney version it got shelved in 2003.

  • @TwilightLink77 Right, but Miramax is a sub of Disney and Disney chopped it up further than even the Miramax cut. I can't get over how different the original is to the released/butchered versions.

  • @alekesam Roy Disney love the original footage and film Richard Made that he wanted to make a restoration of the Thief and the Cobbler but he left and the film was sheveled/sent into the cartoon wasteland.

  • The architect who designed that palace must have been on some hard drugs. o_o

  • embrace your inner cobbler

  • i love the chase scene between tack and teh theif! ^_^ tack's so gorgeous *fangirl moment* XD

  • can someone tell me what music its playing on 5:13

  • It's funny because Richard William's earlier "Raggedy Ann and Andy" film had a surreal sequence, and so does this one...he must be into the whole optical illusion thing

  • I just realized that Tack doesn't use his mouth to make any signs of emotions because they're puckered to keep the tacks in, and it's the tacks that make smiles and frowns,,,

    Brilliant!

  • @babypanda8u you think that's something?

Zigzag has two elbows per arm, two asses, his legs are propped like a marionette, six fingers on each hand, four joints each finger, and his teeth and skull are not connected.

The thief has neither eyelids nor eyebrows - they drew his head angle to match his lid shape, and then his eyebrow shape is made up by the symmetrical angle of the zigzag on his cap.

God this movie is awesome. You could never do this in live action.

  • @babypanda8u and his silance makes me giggle and go "awwwww why are u so likable? OH RIGHT! cause he dosent sing/make annoying inner dilogue now."

  • One Eye really stands out, actually both him and Zigzag seem to have the most work put into them in terms of design!

Zigzag voice actor is well chosen, I must find some videos on Vincent Price himself, One Eye seems to be a tad dramatic but this in a villain makes them more interesting, and with the amount of time taken for that 1 soldier to flee reminds me of a certain Krogan who talks too much in Mass Effect 2(in Mordans mission request), and I'll leave it at that, limit spolers you know!

  • this is like something from fantasia

  • this animation is AMAZING

    o.O

  • 1:58 That music is much more powerful than the lame song in the alternate versions. It makes me really FEEL Tack is sad and feel sorry for him, but it doesn't resort to sickening sentimality either - the scene is very short, and quickly moves on. That's some very good taste there.

  • 6:25 - DOUBLE RAINBOW! WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Ahem. Sorry. The only thing I have to dislike about this is the constantly changing quality. Other than that, I am enjoying myself.

  • 0:49 When my little sister, Mara and I were watching this chase in Arabian Knight, we both got headaches from the whole white and black thing. Believe me, my hands were on my temples.

  • Hey you know that in Teen Titans they used the same background effect from 00:28 to 1:30 or at least a few backgrounds. I remember that Robin was chasing Mad Mod in that part XD

  • @dammyteo I think that scene from Teen Titans was from a an old Beetles music video.

    Sorry if im wrong.

  • ZigZag steals the show in this

    Still a beautifully fantastic film

  • After watching that incredible chase scene, I have a headache. It quite literally blew my mind.

  • 7:28 Wow that is one fucking scary antagonist, but kind of annoying at the same time. He talks more than any other character in this movie combined! O_O

  • @TheSnowyice I'm pretty sure Zigzag talks way more than One-eye lol

  • @raziel20k Oh yeah, well aside from Zigzag then. ;-)

  • I'm really liking this movie so far. What I don't understand is why the animation is unfinished in the most random spots?

  • @missyyo this is the one they remade to fit Richards Williams image of how the movie was supposed to go. theyre using parts of the original version where everythings all finished, the clips Richard Williams had animated (the clips that look worse in quality), and then the original drawings that he was not able to animate. I hope that helped (and, anyone, be free to correct me if I messed something up.) :3

  • Man oh man the animation is incredible.

  • As an animator, some of the stuff in this chase scene makes my brain explode. They must have been on acid or something the entire time this was in production, because frankly I have no idea how they kept up with all of this.

  • the squares hurt my eyes!!!!

  • The music from "Scheherazade" is awesome in this.

  • 6:26 DOUBLERAINBOW!!!!

  • The Thief disliked this video.

  • That is simply the best animated chase scene I've ever watched.

  • I'd be pissed if someone took my work, rewrote it, added Matthew Broderick and added songs, i'd be pissed. I can only think what Richard Williams was thinking when he watched the "reworked" and "family friendly" version

  • At 4:40 you realize the king's had his hand in the litter (the thing the 'plaything' from Mombasa was in) the entire time.

  • this is reminding me alot of Disney's Aladdin... Disney likes to butcher and manipulate stories so that it can appeal to the younger audiances, so maby this is the real story that is in 1000 arabian nights ( i believe thats what it's called...)

  • @ktcal8 I believe it's just called Arabian Nights...also Aladdin was a rip-off of this movie

  • @BillieJoesFave

Aladdin was ripped off of Arabian Knights while in production, AK was ripping from Aladdin near completion.

    it's like cinema inbreeding

  • This is so beautiful!!

  • Thanks you for posting this is such a piece of art. Warner bros could handle an art house piece. It's a shame he couldn't get this funded in Europe or Asia.

  • What if ZigZag met Aku?

  • M. C Esher wouldbe proud off the chase scene

  • I shall gnaw the Golden City

    AND SPIT IT OUUUUT

  • DOUBLE RAINBOW!!!!

  • one person didnt get the shoe back

  • I clicked on this recobbled version to see how it differed from the Miramax version. I really wish people wouldn't hate so much on Miramax. I live in the USA, so I grew up on that version and I PREFER it, not saying that this version is worse. I like the other one because Tack is my favorite character, and something that freaking cute needs a cute voice to go with it. Also, I'm into the inner monologue Miramax provides. With the lack of dialogue, I lose patience and I really love this movie.

  • @karamae14 I can see liking the Miramax version since you grew up with it, nostalgia is a great thing. :) There's parts of the Mirimax version that I like, I thought the voice actors did a good job. I just thought a lot of the dialogue was awkward and redundant since it wasn't really supposed to be there. And it's clear very little effort was put into the songs.

And personally I like that the Recobbled Cut challenges me to have a little patience. ;)

  • That chase part looks so much like ragityann and andy in loonyland.

  • AHHHH! The Red Meanies!

  • jeez, this stuff with the kings little love slave is really really dirty. guess this version wasn't meant for kids at all

  • The animation is gorgeous through the whole polo ponies sequence, but damn is it boring. Screw the thief and the shiny ball he's afraid of, show me the cobbler!

  • I wish I knew what song that was at 3:55 ;~;

  • @ZeroSprocket "Scheherazade III Young Prince and Princess" it's called

  • That guy has like...11 arrows in his back and still keeps going. Dang.

  • @artsandcrafty Yeah, and I thought Boromir in "The Lord of the Rings" held the record for the number of arrows it takes to stop a guy, heh.

  • i had no idea the songs were added later, now its so obvious that they were poorly animated after the fact

i cant believe im, now watching this im so used the the recut version:(

  • If the King gets a prostitute to feel up whenever he wants, why won't they just let Yum Yum have her adorable cobbler?

  • I just realised that I've seen this chase scene alone more than the whole movie.

  • double rainbow all the way 6:29

  • THEY SHOULD RELEASE THIS VERSION COMPLETE IN THEATRES

  • 6:25 What does it mean?

  • Disney, or Miramax, which ever comes first, you should've done this project Richard's way when you had the chance, and when Richard was involved.

  • 6:27 DOUBLE RAINBOW

  • 6:25 DOUBLE RAINBOW

  • Watch 6:49 to the end while listening to the final boss theme from Super Mario 64. It's awesome!!!

  • wait, where did One Eye got that piece of meat?

  • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa Think about it. He himself is a large ham.

  • 3:35 what is that song that plays here

  • @FierceyKun it's a section for the song "Scheherazade III" (Young Prince and Princess)

  • Tack is so adorable without a voice! His mannerisms and expressions speak loudly enough. He doesn't need words

  • BOOM HEADSHOT lol:3

  • That ball is out to get him.

  • That man has A LOT of teeth.

  • Does that king ever wake up?

  • That is one of the WIERDEST and yet best chase rides I have ever been on.

  • 3:20 What's he doing with that hand?

  • @ZeeZedZee Somethings are better left unsaid.

  • interesting use of the Sheherazade music.

  • 6:27 duble ranebow all the way

  • I'm not sure there are maple trees in the middle east.

  • Man that polo ball sure knows how to hold a grudge.

  • 1:20 LOL I love how it just suddenly cuts to the thief flying through the mosque.

  • Why not release the recobbled cut in any film one day

Unless the greedy Disney pigs want their heads taken away

  • I wonder if Double-D from Ed, Edd, and Eddy was inspired by Tack.

  • Imagine that One Eye general's dental plan.

  • Omg the dying horse in the background xD @ 8:08

  • DOUBLE RAINBOW

  • What's the song used in the chase scene called? In fact, is there a soundtrack of the film score (without the crappy songs) out there?

  • My god that chase scene is trippy. But it's still awesome.

  • DOUBLE RAINBOW ALL THE WAY!

    ACROSS THE.....ah fuck it..
