First saw this video like 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years ago. Probably the third time I've seen it. So, did you get an update on the building or is the whole system dead now? Out of curiosity.
When the alarms in the building first went off... were all the dead horns already dead or did the wires going to the horns over heat and burn out the horns?
@JrFireFighter1544 I think that the horns aren't designed to work continuously, nonstop. They can work for a few hours, but no for several DAYS, and the guy that posted the video says that the fire alarm is activated, and the horns sounds CONTINUOUSLY for least 1 week. This is maybe why they are dead. But that's still a supposition, without any certitude.
I saw this video once a good amount of time ago. I wanted to see it again so about 20 minutes ago I started looking for it. So 20 minutes later, I found it!
Im sure this building probably has a burglar alarm system as well. Maybe someone should set off the burglar alarm and in turn the alarm company would call somebody at MCI and then they would find out that there Fire Alarm was going off and then they could shut it down!
The fire dept wont turn up to false alarms as it costs alot of money. look around the outside of the building for a for sale sign if there isnt a for sale sign most companies hire security firms to patrol vacant buildings ( to prevent vandals ect)
if there is no for sale/security sign contact MCI who will send a key holder.
Thats wierd. The Fire Department couldnt do anything about it? The contro pannel should have a silent mode. It was strange that it was going off at a abandon MCI building. But you had some really good footage of an abandoned building. It is uncommon you would see that. The night footage was cool with fire alarm strobes flashing at night andyoucan see them from the lake.
The outdoor horns are most likely wired to the non-silenceable circuit (strobe circuit) so that they continue to sound outside the building even after the indoor horns are silenced, so that someone is likely to hear the alarm system and notify the fire department.
The unknown pull station is an ADT pull station.
I work as a technician for Simplex, you can program fire alarm systems to do just about anything, or to monitor or supervise just about any building function or process.
I have never seen a setup where activation of the fire alarm system causes the generator to start. However, it may be wired so that trouble with the generator causes a "supervisory" indication at the fire alarm control panel. A supervisory will not cause the horns to sound.
You probably didn't hear the indoor horns because they're on a silenceable circuit. Usually, silenceable circuits are programmed to automatically silence after ten minutes, while strobes run until the system is reset.
The generator is beeping due to a "fault". This could be "failure to start" as well as " hi temp shutdown" "low oil", "emerg stop". "low battery" whatever.. But as far as I know a Generator should NOT start unless there is an actual power failure, and should NOT be configured to sound alarms to evac the building upon a "failure to start", thats just stupid. The generator may be interconnected to the elevators and fire alarm to "disable" certan functions during a "generator running" condition.
Its my guess that the reason for all the dead horns is that they burned up from sounding for so long. It don't think that any fire alarm horns are designed to run for that long.
The original occupants probably changed the locks to the building so that any keys that were in the Fire Department key box didn't work anymore. Something like that happened at a bank that I used to do testing at - the system was triggered by a water leak into a detector, and since the keys didn't work, the Fire Department simply left the alarm sounding because there was no visible evidence of a fire.
By law, the only time they are allowed to force their way into a building is if they actually see evidence of something burning or evidence of water flowing from a sprinkler head. Only under those circumstances are they "within their right to use any means necessary to gain access" - otherwise they would be left with an unsecured building, which could be a target for vandals and arsonists.
I remember once about two years ago, I was working for Publix and there was an adjacent vacant suite to us (old Home Depot) and the fire alarm was going off in it for three whole days. It has been disconnected from emergency services. It has several outdoor honrs because it had a gardening center...It was so loud! I felt bad for the apartment complex next door to it.
Anythings possible! I don't know, but they might put the panel in there so nobody but authorized personnel could access the main panel. Just a thought.
But it is probably just a warning light specific to the generator.
Chances are that the Generator needs to be serviced(low on fuel, oil change)..if it was in need service the fire alarm would usually have a supervisory on it. Fire Alarm Control Panels are mostly in electrical rooms or mechanical rooms.
at my work in to event of i fire the genny turns on to power the fans and elevators so it could be a fail to start alarm and from past nolage or if the genny fails during ablack out system goes off to evack the building
The first time you show the inside horns, you said it wasn't working, but I can hear it. Also, were the alarms still going off at 5:27? Because I can't hear anything, and I would definately think those 2 outdoor horns would still be pretty audible...
Where is this located also?

the generator is beeping cause the fire panel cut its power so it fired up and is running of nat gas line.> (whos paying that gas bill)
good news that gen wont last long.. its backup only..
the real Q how can that building be vacant.... who owns it who pays the taxes..
tlordon 3 years ago
If it's natural gas the generator will continue running until the gas service is shut off

1. smash front door
2. break in to FACP (Fire Alarm Control Panel) the big panel with a lot of lights and a display
3.push ack alarm
4.slince alarm
or
gas match

It is kind of a waste of a fire alarm system to allow it to burn it self out by neglecting to squelch it. Sounds like some subject for investigation.

how? do u have a key to their panel?
milestailsprower3 4 years ago
drill out the lock? or hotwire the lock to allow control.

Probably running on a flat backup battery. When the power level is too low say after a week or so, the system malfunctions and goes into alarm.

Wow, is it still going off to this day?
And the horns prolly dont work for going off for so long! LOL
And the fire dept. should have just ripped the thing outta the wall, or at least silenced it, unless they had no way of getting in.
My fav. part was the strobes at night. LOL
