Please stop talking about Dream Theather, yes maybe it can be similar, but we cant know how much, and we can say that Dream Theatre is copy of Fates Warning and Shadow galerry, - these bands are mother of Progressive metal, and progressive metal has samething similar in every band :) Pagans ming is great :)
@rompundex Yeah, when I uploaded this track, I never guessed that it would turn into a debate about the similarities between progressive metal bands and accusations of plagiarism. Of course music groups are influenced by each other, and still there is a definitely development in music genres and originality in individual bands. I have no problem accepting this, so I agree with you totally. Please chill and enjoy the music, all ye who are weary and heavy laden from all the arguments on youtube.
@Incantationem I agree with you too :D last thing is, that you cant know, if was some riff developed by some guys many years ago, or now :) There are too many bands, riffs, melodies so you cant say sometimes that they are makers. Hehe your last sentence is great :D . I think it is ok talk about it or subscribe it here, but i dont like when somebody is talking for instance: DF is better than...and so on, so it is my reason for starting this talking. But as you said, please listen :)
This was a really cool tribute to Dream Theater song. Excel in taking a song and keeping its identiy while giving it a complete make-over and turning it into their own song. Impressive.
They are not dream theater, nor do they sound like dream theater they are two complete different bands. I have not heard a dream theater song that sounds anything close to pagan's mind and I have been listening to Dream Theater since 1991 so far nothing Pagan's mind has written sounds like dream theater
In the beginning... There were two aardvarks clog dancing to Carlos Santanas music. The first aardvark said to the second aardvark "Do you have any Grey Poupon?' The second aardvark replied with a fart....Thus the universe was born!
@Smartguy561: You can prefer this one, but honestly we can't say that this is obviously the best. I personally put the Enigmatic Calling above it (and the others). But like you said, they are just all great. :)
Pretty damn sure that's simply a DT tribute, as Nils loves DT. Pagan's Mind obviously have enough ideas of their own to not have to rip other bands off, especially a band they like.
@lolpawnage Yeah, even if a a line of lyrics is somewhat similar to that of another song (not exactly uncommon in the world of music), it doesn't make the song a rip off. Obviously PM has very unique themes, sound and vocals.
@Inc: It's surprising how Bach didn't suffer from those kind of considerations, but now any similarity is a "rip off"... Yes, this is common in the music world, but nowadays everything belongs more or less to the world of industry, sadly. That's why every single (even pathetic) form of creation is now claimed like if it was a kingdom, but at the same time we quiet don't complain about how mainstream and creativeless this environment becomes. At the hands of such a band, this is poor behaviour...
@a9s8d7f6g I think I can see why the beat reminds you of Learning to Live by DT. Never thought of this before personally, even though I have listened through these tracks many times. They are very different on the whole, though, so I wouldn't say that Prophecy of the Pleiades is a rip off from Learning to Live. I think Pagan's Mind has a very unique sound.
@Incantationem Not the beat, dude, the first three lines of lyrics and the melody sung by Nils in this song. He's said Images and Words is his favorite album, though.
Also the riff that plays under the keyboard solo in Aegean Shores is pretty similar to the groove from the beginning of Under A Glass Moon.
@Incantationem I do think he has a point. I love Pagan's mind (and DT as well) but there are parts to this song that are so close to Learning that it can't be coincidental. Let's call it a heavily "borrowed" influence. He could have at least changed the opening lyric though. "Walking through winter woods at night. A starlit freezing sky. With confidence and self control" and "Walking through winter streets alone he stops and takes a breath. With confidence and self control". Way too close.
Learning to live is such a great song.. Oh wait, wrong song

This is still by far Pagan's Mind's best album to date. All of them are good, but this one is the best so far. I have all four of their albums.
