  • Imagine! Berlin 1929. Oh, Berlin! You have had such a tremorous : and now they have lobotomised you! Berlin, you are a Museum and I cannot accept it... I know young buds will flower again in Berlin... unter den Linden... I hope I get an opportunity to drink beer there...

  • sebreatnach. Unfortunately 1929 was also the start of a disasterous depression. It was all downhill after then. The same sort of thing happened in 2001 with 9/11. Why do these horrible sorts of things have to destroy the good times? :(

  • Thanks for posting this video. I really enjoyed following along with the sheet music. I only discovered Tauber's voice today, and I like it very much.

  • I am so pleased...;)

Come and watch the sheet rolling on in my video: 'Zarah Leander sings Pola Negri.

  • Carlitos?? An other suprise !! You never told me! Are there coming more ?

  • Here - on YT only one which you know.

  • A great aspect of Tauber's art totally unknown to me - in which he turned out to be equally genious as in his better-known operatic performances.

  • This is one of the very few Tauber records not in my collection, and I am so grateful to you for posting it! The music is by Franz Grothe (1908-1982), and it is one of six songs by him that Tauber recorded. Words are by Fritz Rotter (1901-1984)who with his brother Alfred ran the Metropol Theatre in Berlin (today home of the Komische Oper) where so many of Tauber's great successes - including Das Land des Laechelns were given.

  • I am happy that I was able to make you pleased. Thank you for additional info. As you might noticed, it is Polish pressing, 1929 and music sheet is original 'Deutsch' - (I play it on my piano sometimes). In the present series Tauber will sing another tango - within a few days. You are invited.

  • nur du!

THanks again and also for you beautiful story.

  • When "music" was!!

  • This is a wonderful posting. The Great Tenor always sang a tango with inimitable beauty and feeling. I do like the curling of the lyrics on this video.

    Thank you for posting.

My original comment for some unknown Youtube reason seems to have vanished.

  • A wonderful tango with the exquisite voice of Austria's top singer. Interesting story of tolerance. Thanks!

You may or may not know that there is a street in a nice neighborhood of Tel Aviv called 'Veidat Katovitz' (the Katowice Conference) after the first conference of Zionists which took place in Katowice in 1884.

  • Acceptance...:-)

The building destroyed first early Sept.'39 and how great it was you my see under: Synagoga_Wielka_w_Katowicach in wikipedia.

    a few beautiful pictures...-

  • What a gorgeous building it was. Thanks for directing me to the site.

  • Each time I hear these German songs, I am amazed how beautiful they are. This one is especially lovely. The story of your parents' influence on you combined with your exposure to this beautiful music at an early age is also charming. Thank you for sharing it. It makes the song so much more special!

  • Those songs will appear and appear...-

    I hope.
