  • i love Donna Murphy she is an amazing singer and actress.I love her in Tangled she is my favorite character in that movie! :)

  • shes insane!!!

  • Donna Murphy is an awesome singer!!! She is my favorite character in Tangled!!

  • Oh my gosh!!! What an AMAZING VOICE!!!!

  • Is there nothing that this fantastic talent can't do? TANGLED was a hit because of what she did with a charactor that looked just like her! The Disney Studio knew whatthey weredoing, her sarcazim was noted in "Listen To Your mothee"and gave th film it's life! ,,,and this is the same talented women!!!!! WOW !

  • SHE IS AMAZING!!!!!!!

  • I remember about three scenes from "What About Joan?" This is one of them. She kills it!

  • she just blew my mind...

  • no surprise y they picked her for mother gothel O_o

  • IT'S MOTHER GOTHEL!

  • Wow! I love her voice! She was amazing in Tangled:)

  • I SO want to see her as Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, seriously, this woman represents everything I love and I feel ashamed to say that I only know her since 'Tangled'... because she deserves to be SUPERfamous :D

  • ...A-Donnadamn-mazing.

  • Impressive!!!

  • Yeah, Donna Murphy is both too old and too good to play Elphaba. She's really something else. I like her quite a bit better than Lupone, personally.

  • Ah-Donna-MAZING

  • Donna Murphy leaves me speechless. I think she is one of the greatest actresses I have ever come across. I agree with so many here; she is on the same level as Peters, LuPone, McDonald, Stritch, Mazzie and all the other queens of Broadway.

  • She is so good. Just watched her in tangled.

  • when i get really sad or pissed i just watch this video....i feel SO MUCH BETTER afterwards!!! thank you Donna!

  • Gotta echo @AtLastOnTheGround's comment. I don't know why she doesn't get the same reverence as Patti or Bernadette. This woman is a musical theater genius. I recently saw her perform w/ Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch and they were all absolutely phenomenal, but Donna added a certain something to her number that the rest didn't have. She's brilliant.

  • @Splurge24 You are so lucky to see all those great performers together. What were they performing?

  • Phenomenal. Love Donna.

  • Well, she's going to be in a Disney movie. (that's a musical)

  • Too bad she is going to play the witch though ... I hope they're going to give her some fabulous songs ;o).

  • @RuthSherwood don't you think Mother Knows Best was legit!

  • @xtremesk8ing It was awesome! I am tempted to link it to this video, but I guess it would have to be the other way around. *lol*

I'm so excited that 'tangled' is out. I still have to find a theater that will show the English version though.

  • @RuthSherwood she was really good.

  • @RuthSherwood Oh, they do give her some awesome songs. ^^

  • I don't care if she's a girl too, I think I just fell in love. Wish she had more attention paid to her, I'd never even heard her until I watched this, but I'll definitely be looking her up more now. Beautiful.

  • I love her. I hope she goes on Broadway soon, I'd love to see her perform in person!

  • she needs to be Elphaba!!!

  • She's too good to be Elphaba. She's played far more respectable roles (Fosca in Passion and Ruth in Wonderful Town) and should continue doing so!

  • Donna Murphy is SO underrated. As far as talent goes, she is on the same level as Peters and Lupone. I just don't get why she's not as celebrated as either one.

  • well she has won 2 tony for best actress, so as far a awards she tops peter and equals lupone, but in media it's truth, she have not had the same publicity

  • That's the reality of showbiz I guess. Some people as or more talented than any star may receive little or no recognition. It's quite sad. Donna has a mind-blowing voice, and unlike Lupone, she knows how to use it's full spectrum, not just the belt. (sorry, not the HUGEST Lupone fan)

  • I know this conversation might have been a while ago. I totally love Donna. But I want to say that all three of them have won 2 Tony's for best actress. Peters won 2 as well.

  • I have seen this video about 10 times now and I still can't get over how great she is!!!!

  • I am so in awe right now...

  • i am in love with her lol

  • it's great!

  • ugh i freakin LOVE this!!!! she's phenomenal.

  • She needs her own TV show - totally, or, even better, her won one-woman show on Broadway. She would rock, no question. She's got two Tonys to testify to her talent!

  • Best voice on broadway!!!

  • Sure, when she doesn't call in sick.

  • Huh?

  • Love It, absolutely Amazing!

  • omg we song this song in choir today !!!!

  • we sing that song in school

  • She and Christine Ebersole are hosting the Drama League Gala on Feb 2nd....she was also at the opening of The American Plan a week or so ago.

  • 2:07 YESSSSSSSSSSSS

  • Does anyone know what Donna is doing now?

  • ferosh.

  • Soo fierce.

  • FIERCE!

  • one more reason to LOVE Donna.........

  • VERY true. ;o)

  • Man ... she is CRAZY .... But really really good version

  • cousin.. i feel jealous =.=

  • Wow awesome version.

  • Fan-freakin'-TASTIC.

After that horrid Katie Holmes rendition (Eli Stone)... I just *had* to hear this done RIGHT, and now I most certainly have.

  • @CityofDreadfulDelite I completely agree! I was looking through some of the other versions, and no one else even comes close! She was amazing in Passion!!! I recently saw Tangled, and was happy that now she will have a bigger fan base thanks to Disney....maybe now she will be given the recognition she definitely deserves!

  • What show was this from?

  • It's from the What About Joan episode Ruby Doobie Doo (But you could have seen that in the 'details')

The song is by Duke Ellington.

  • she was in Spider-Man 2. i love Donna.

  • Yes, she was.

And she was in The Astronauts Wife and Star Trek IX too ;o).

  • awesome username. this video makes me wanna buy the Wonderful Town Cast Recording.

  • I had never heard of Donna Murphy until she starred in Star Trek Insurrection and then, of course, I fell in love with her. Thank goodness for YouTube postings like this so that I can keep learning more about what this beautiful and wonderfully talented woman is capable of.

  • i first saw ms. murphy in center stage, i had no idea she was a broadway star until i was looking up the king and i. then i rented passion, and found this clip. amazing actress, had no idea she was so versitle. subtle, and sincere. hope she does a concert or puts out a cd soon. oh, and she's fun to watch on star trek insurrection to.

  • ME TOO! I saw her first on Center Stage so elegant and then BOOM! 5 years later I see that see can blow like a hefty broadway diva!. Amazing!

  • I'm doing this song with my Jazz band, being a bass player I"m very happy to do it, cuz I get those be-bop parts! they're so fun to play! Duke Ellington is amazing. awesome version.

  • I had the pleasure of doing two shows with Donna. The first was a Broadway destined production of DANGEROUS MUSIC by Tom Eyen & Henry Krieger the writers of DREAM GIRLS & also the Tony Award Winning PASSION by James Lapine & Stephen Sondheim. I simply adore her.

  • so is SOOO freaking cool! congratulations!!!

  • Watch her at the show and run to hear it again here..love it!!what u do..do it with passion!

  • This is so cool - I'd never seen this before.

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • Yay, Donna Murphy!

  • i luv this song, but she is seriously creepy!! ^^ I guess she is really into the sing!^^

  • awesome!!! im inspired!!

  • brillllliant

  • Amazing...!!!!

  • pretty cool man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can someone tell me what this is from? Something on ABC

  • The show was called "What About Joan" and aired from March 2001 to October 2001. It starred Joan Cusack as Joan Gallagher.

Ms Murphy played one of her best friends, a psychologist called Dr. Ruby Stern.

The show was canceled in it's 2nd season.

  • I was lucky to have been at the recording of this episode. They filmed it in Chicago on the west side at Oprah's studio.

She did the scene twice, both times flawless. Blew the audience away. Listen to the crowd applaud at the end, alot different than most of the crowd noise or laugh track because it was a real moment, They shortened the applause by a couple minutes on the show. I still get chills when she goes through the low notes.

  • Does the ending sound exactly same as "100 easy ways to loose a man" from the WONDERFUL TOWN revival to anyone else?

  • Hmm... no, it doesn't. The pose is kinda the same, but that's all. Just go and watch the video I have of it and judge for yourself though.

  • sorry you're right, but it's more like the last two notes where she takes them up the octave in "How To Loose..." and then last high note of "Swing!" It's a cool combo.

  • OMG! That's Scott Frankel, composer of Grey Gardens!

  • \Wow! How amazing is Donna Murphy!!!

  • Am....a....zing.....!

  • I love Donna Murphy...and she can sing, but I like her better when she is behind a character singing...

    Gil

  • Oh, but she is.

She's Dr. Ruby Stern there - if it would be 'just Donna' singing, I'm sure she wouldn't be so shy at the beginning. ;o)

  • Hello, thanks for the comment, but she continually does this Louis Armstrong thing when she belts low and it sounds like a white girl who really shouldn't be doing that as it comes out of nowhere and is part of another voice, weird!

  • Fascinating point ... hey; I would really like to continue talking ... IM me, if you like :o).

  • why does it stop after 14 seconds or so?

  • Hmm... maybe something is wrong with your browser.

    For me it plays fine.

  • so awesome!

  • I just posted this same clip!!! Was she Hot or what!

  • OMG, can you say AWESOME?!! ^_^

  • Cari Great Clips my Best Friend
