Is there nothing that this fantastic talent can't do? TANGLED was a hit because of what she did with a charactor that looked just like her! The Disney Studio knew whatthey weredoing, her sarcazim was noted in "Listen To Your mothee"and gave th film it's life! ,,,and this is the same talented women!!!!! WOW !
I SO want to see her as Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, seriously, this woman represents everything I love and I feel ashamed to say that I only know her since 'Tangled'... because she deserves to be SUPERfamous :D
Donna Murphy leaves me speechless. I think she is one of the greatest actresses I have ever come across. I agree with so many here; she is on the same level as Peters, LuPone, McDonald, Stritch, Mazzie and all the other queens of Broadway.
Gotta echo @AtLastOnTheGround's comment. I don't know why she doesn't get the same reverence as Patti or Bernadette. This woman is a musical theater genius. I recently saw her perform w/ Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch and they were all absolutely phenomenal, but Donna added a certain something to her number that the rest didn't have. She's brilliant.
I don't care if she's a girl too, I think I just fell in love. Wish she had more attention paid to her, I'd never even heard her until I watched this, but I'll definitely be looking her up more now. Beautiful.
Donna Murphy is SO underrated. As far as talent goes, she is on the same level as Peters and Lupone. I just don't get why she's not as celebrated as either one.
well she has won 2 tony for best actress, so as far a awards she tops peter and equals lupone, but in media it's truth, she have not had the same publicity
That's the reality of showbiz I guess. Some people as or more talented than any star may receive little or no recognition. It's quite sad. Donna has a mind-blowing voice, and unlike Lupone, she knows how to use it's full spectrum, not just the belt. (sorry, not the HUGEST Lupone fan)
I know this conversation might have been a while ago. I totally love Donna. But I want to say that all three of them have won 2 Tony's for best actress. Peters won 2 as well.
She needs her own TV show - totally, or, even better, her won one-woman show on Broadway. She would rock, no question. She's got two Tonys to testify to her talent!
@CityofDreadfulDelite I completely agree! I was looking through some of the other versions, and no one else even comes close! She was amazing in Passion!!! I recently saw Tangled, and was happy that now she will have a bigger fan base thanks to Disney....maybe now she will be given the recognition she definitely deserves!
I had never heard of Donna Murphy until she starred in Star Trek Insurrection and then, of course, I fell in love with her. Thank goodness for YouTube postings like this so that I can keep learning more about what this beautiful and wonderfully talented woman is capable of.
i first saw ms. murphy in center stage, i had no idea she was a broadway star until i was looking up the king and i. then i rented passion, and found this clip. amazing actress, had no idea she was so versitle. subtle, and sincere. hope she does a concert or puts out a cd soon. oh, and she's fun to watch on star trek insurrection to.
I'm doing this song with my Jazz band, being a bass player I"m very happy to do it, cuz I get those be-bop parts! they're so fun to play! Duke Ellington is amazing. awesome version.
I had the pleasure of doing two shows with Donna. The first was a Broadway destined production of DANGEROUS MUSIC by Tom Eyen & Henry Krieger the writers of DREAM GIRLS & also the Tony Award Winning PASSION by James Lapine & Stephen Sondheim. I simply adore her.
I was lucky to have been at the recording of this episode. They filmed it in Chicago on the west side at Oprah's studio.
She did the scene twice, both times flawless. Blew the audience away. Listen to the crowd applaud at the end, alot different than most of the crowd noise or laugh track because it was a real moment, They shortened the applause by a couple minutes on the show. I still get chills when she goes through the low notes.
sorry you're right, but it's more like the last two notes where she takes them up the octave in "How To Loose..." and then last high note of "Swing!" It's a cool combo.
Hello, thanks for the comment, but she continually does this Louis Armstrong thing when she belts low and it sounds like a white girl who really shouldn't be doing that as it comes out of nowhere and is part of another voice, weird!
What a voice! Love her!

The show was called "What About Joan" and aired from March 2001 to October 2001. It starred Joan Cusack as Joan Gallagher.
Ms Murphy played one of her best friends, a psychologist called Dr. Ruby Stern.
The show was canceled in it's 2nd season.
