  • He's such a charming birdie! :3 Amazing work with him and it's lovely to see he's getting so much love and attention! ^^ He's one lucky Tongo! ^^

Haha, I so loved the Slurpy Beak part, the slurp sound he makes is so spot on and cool 8D

I'm trying to get my Mealy Amazon to say phrases as well, but he's very young and likes sounds more than words XD So far he can only say a couple of words, haha XD

Again, Tongo is adorable and very beautiful ^^ Thanks for sharing this!

  • Thank you! Be patient with your little one, he will pick up on things.

  • what a bird. I would like to know EXACTLY what you did to help him become such a great talking COG so I can do the same thing with mine.

  • Before Tongo was verbal we made an audio tape of phrases and names that he would hear around the house everyday. We played it for him 2x daily for 15 minutes. All along I would talk to him in context. I would say one of the words or phrases and we would create the situation for him. I would call Ron and he would answer. I would say breakfast and give him his food. I would call the dog and she would come to us. I gave him water and said the word. Plus I said the words sing song. WAAAA-terrr...

  • atch towards the end how the parrot uses his foot while speaking... he's not just mimicking sound heard from memory but contextualizing it with physical action. it's glaring proof that humans are not the only animals that use sound or language symbolically (the common anthropological argument).

  • What a great bird! He looks very happy and healthy too.

  • Tongo IS gorgeous!

  • the slurpy beak is another good one i love how he Acts like he is drinking from a cup.

  • The part were tongo says look look the stop it is to funny.I love how he raises his foot!

  • Thanks for sharing your video with me. I laughed so much. I will be sharing this video with my Grey, Crickey.... Compared to Tongo she seems to be an underachiever. ;)

    Perhaps Tongo will inspire her!

  • Tongo is a very handsome african grey of yours. He makes me laugh a lot ;). Oh and a Merry X-mas to Tongo and you.

  • Merry Xmas right back at ya! (from Tongo Too)

I have a Timneh and noticed you commented so I wanted to check yours Videos out So glad I did will show this to KaNicki later lol .. and I also know they Mix words to do new sentences KaNicki just started doing this recently Great Videos I subscribed ... Isa

  • Tongo was 9 when we recorded this, although we have never been sure about his age. But if we go by what his original owners told us that would have been his approximate age. My DH and I both telecommute so Tongo has us here almost all the time. KaNicki is adorable, Billie my Timneh was watching him the other day. I think she has a crush on him. ;-)

  • He's great. Too bad he never went to Pet Star. Is that show still on air?

  • Yes it is. He should enter.

  • Tango is awesome! Check out my Grey, Ziggy.

    :)

  • Such an articulate bird! Well done on training little tongo! You can tell Tongo is very happy!

  • RNEMESiS42, it's amazing what these AG's understand. Not the exact words, but the general meaning. For instance, my CAG ponti knows what the phrase "come here!" means. She even says it when she drops a toy and wants it back. She also knows all our dogs by name. And when she wants misted with the spray bottle, she says, "want a bath? psst psst psst" while fluffing her feathers and shaking her head, and then "feels so good-get the belly-now get the back." basically reenacting a shower.

  • Matt314159, thanks for the reply to the above poster. I often try to explain that Greys do understand the actual meaning behind words and phrases but people do not understand unless they have a grey. Tongo learns words and even mixes them into new sentences that make sense. I am often amazed by my greys. Their intellegence and humor is unbelievable.

  • This is beautiful...even if it's just sound imitation, this is just wonderful...I think of it as trying to recreate music you hear. I'm pretty good at singing what I hear, or whistling it, so I can do accents pretty well, too. I think of what it's like for an animal to make sounds...I bet Tongo would be a good singer!

  • 5 stars, thts cute!

  • he's a great talker. lets see some more tongo vids!

  • I vote for you,Tongo!You are AMAZING!

  • Wow, maybe I should get him on the ballot. :-)

  • WOW! Tongo is amazing... I agree with ronkal, I'd definitely vote for Tongo!

  • Tongo thanks you kindly.

  • very smart bird, i want one!

  • Tongo would tell you there is only one of him, lol! Greys are terrific but require tons of attention. My DH and I work from home so he pretty much gets attention everyday most of the day and when he feels ignored he yells at us and calls us big poos.

  • cute!!!!

  • Love it, Awesome bird you have there. Must be so much fun. Thanks for sharing

  • If you like funny animal videos, check out my profile!

  • Ahaha, so cute! Our AG is about a year and a half old now, and she's learning her first full phrases! "I'll get'chu!" "Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello...." "Whacha doin'?" "What do YOU want?" Lol! Tongo is an inspiration, he looks very happy.

  • I would love to see her. Please post some videos.

  • Man... that is one humorous bird. You guys have been given a gift of a lifetime.

  • Yes, he makes us smile everyday.

  • Teehee. Yes, Tongo is a very sweet bird. He has talent, that's for sure. ^_^

  • Thankyou Kindly!

  • Lol. He is awesome.

  • Thankyou!

  • what the hell ur doing? LOL i love that one

  • Yeah he thinks he has to know what we are doing and is very demanding.

  • Tongo is one awesome parrot! I say we start a petition to nominate Tongo for President in '08!!!

  • I will ask him if he is interested. I bet he would love to be able to boss around an entire country.
