The electoral college prevents a few states from dictating the course of the rest. If the US population were evenly distributed among the 50 states then one person one vote would work. However this is not the case so the electoral college is the best way to aggregate votes based on the number of senators and representatives each state has.
Reps, yes - each state has two senators. If the popular vote in a state like NY goes Democratic in the college (which is pretty much always the case) by a 52% margin, then presumably millions of Republican and other party votes are lost. If they were counted, then a 52%-48% split within the state would keep things a lot closer than in the "winner take all" state of the electoral college. The geographic location and population density therein would be irrelevant if all votes were equal.
Population density has EVERYTHING to do with the concept of all votes equal. The people in CA and NY would virtually eliminate any influence from states such as AK, HI, MT, ND, SD, etc. The same reason why each state has two senators is why we must keep, embrace, and preserve the Electoral College.

@joshhanvey Well this film was produced during the Carter administration, and from what I gather from people that were old enough to remember those times, they were worse than now. Although things are going to get really bad soon when inflation kicks in high gear.

Daniel Melnick, who was a producer on this film, as well as "Midnight Express" "Kramer Vs. Kramer" and "The China Syndrome" died today at age 77. He left a lasting effect on cinema, and just wanted to pay my respects to him and to send out my condolences to his family and friends.

we don't vote for our president, we have the "Electoral College" (ie, people behind the curtain who pull the strings for us and cancel out our votes).

Nooo...because of the electoral college, those two states have heavier influence than other states. Without it, everybody would have one vote. How could you possibly come to that conclusion?

Nooo aibangmaini...if every person had one vote, then larger states would have a much heavier influence. 5-6 states alone make up half the US population. The electoral college prevents a few states from dictating the course of the rest. If the US population were evenly distributed among the 50 states then one person one vote would work. However this is not the case so the electoral college is the best way to aggregate votes based on the number of senators and representatives each state has.

Reps, yes - each state has two senators. If the popular vote in a state like NY goes Democratic in the college (which is pretty much always the case) by a 52% margin, then presumably millions of Republican and other party votes are lost. If they were counted, then a 52%-48% split within the state would keep things a lot closer than in the "winner take all" state of the electoral college. The geographic location and population density therein would be irrelevant if all votes were equal.

Population density has EVERYTHING to do with the concept of all votes equal. The people in CA and NY would virtually eliminate any influence from states such as AK, HI, MT, ND, SD, etc. The same reason why each state has two senators is why we must keep, embrace, and preserve the Electoral College.

Cause we have wishes. Wishes are the CAUSE for all economic acting. You have wishes and they become concrete needs. These needs have to be sadisfied. BUT the companys in this world can only sadisfy your material needs. Everything else does not matter cause you can´t buy love and so on... Life is business. That´s so true. Well, I think the elite made a miscalculation. They assumed he was doing a performance, theatre, and would keep to the role by accepting that it is not the reality.
