  • i just got a boner.

  • Anyone know what sort of distortion he's using?

  • @britlohse123 its Fuzz

  • @IDeathlordI Well thank you for a reply, but I meant a little bit more specifically. I know he's used big muffs before, maybe it's that plus something else?

  • This song feels like dying in the most awesomest way

  • go number 13!!!!

  • best 127seconds of my year

  • One of their influences is Pavement.

  • The guitar tone is dirtier than a prostitute's vagina after a long night at the orifice.

  • I wore out the replay button...

  • MTV actually played real rock music once? Love the Keys

  • @FlakyShaky this aint rock ma man. this is good o'l, heartwrenchin blues!!!

  • @killerbass234 This is blues rock.

  • this video is the first black keys tv appearance.

amazing. that tone makes me get cold sweats.

  • @lovebarnett Because he is a great guitarist, he plays guitar a lot in the studio just not so much live.

  • Man they can put on a rock show!

  • proving that you don't need a full set up to have a killer drum part

  • @henno33 The drummer looks like a nerd and plays like the Animal from the Muppet's... i cant help but listen and think...man... i could do better than that... and i play guitar hahaha

  • @Pulseless666 I can't help but read your comment and think... man... this guy is full of shit.

  • @achickensandwich Sorry u feel that way... but its just my opinion. No disrespect to the keys... but i always wished that the drummer was more talented. Im not sayin his gotta be Danny Carey or Bonham... but whenever i watch a video of um... it looks like hes struggling

  • @Pulseless666 Chops don't mean shit, so why say otherwise? Either you like the music or you don't. "I could do better" just makes you sound arrogant and ridiculous.

  • @lovebarnett

and where the fuck's hendrix. i mean he's sloppy, but he's the reason all those guitarists are who they are

  • Is that fuzz! i can't tell, someone help me?

  • @Psychedozzzer Yeah it is Dan uses a bunch of different fuzz pedals but I think his two main ones are a Fender Maestro and an Electro Harmonix Big Muff.

  • great list but you forgot Jack White

  • @bensiffel i like you for saying that haha cos as soon as i thought of Jack White i looked down and saw your comment so well done !

  • WOW! did anybody else's hair stand straight up?

  • i didn't know MTV was capable of playing great music in the last 10 years....

  • dan could spit on a plate and it would sound like magic.

  • WHATA TONE!

  • thats a good hair cut for dan

  • Did y'all see Patrick on the drums? Wow!

  • I'm pretty sure the first line in this song is gibberish.

  • Comment removed

  • @Orangello06 "Here I am, I'm not here now no no my darling" is what it is on the album. Live, Dan usually just leaves it at saying "Here I am" haha. But who cares. It's still the shit.

And Patrick is tearing up the skins back there.

  • @Orangello06 Thank God... I thought I was the only one.. I heard "Darlin"' at the end and was happy making that out--

  • @Orangello06 of course it is

  • @Orangello06 agree. totally.

  • @Orangello06 The first line in this song is ByoooowwwwwwwwweeeeeeKSHRHSHDDGDDS

  • @Orangello06 "Well now, here I am. Well now here I am, my darling."

  • @Orangello06 "Well now here I am" is gibberish?

  • Always, since heavy soul I will listen

  • Comment removed

  • I had to watch this 2 times in a row just for the solo.

  • head banging time woot woot

  • Dan looks different with shorter hair and a not-full beard.

  • this is sped up

  • @nygisgod do you mean theyre playing it alot faster live or the guy who edited the video sped it up?

  • @nygisgod ya it sound like there playing it faster

  • He has very white teeth! :D

  • One of the greatest guitarist I have heard over the last years.I think The Black keys are a good example of what two talented people can do on stage!Check The Pm's Band - Mosquito Lover!

  • Eargasm

  • mmmaaaan whaaaaaat aa fuuuuuuuzzzzz

  • the blond version of jack white

  • @suckitrebek12 HELLS YEAAH!

  • some of the dirtiest melt your face off rock riffs I have ever heard! badass! Pat and Dan are so potent that I think they just impregnated the first few rows with this song!

  • His shirt is really lame, he has come a long way fashionably

  • @Koolgit Let me guess, you're a pop/alternative fan who happened to hear tighten up and now you are listening to the black keys? i dont think any original black keys fans would really care about his shirt. i somehow think that dan could care less about what he's wearing when he's tearing everyone's face off with the dirtiest tele tone ever.

  • @TheDoubleOhhSeven Haha no! pop is for fags, I like alternative every now and then. But my main music is hard rock that is blues influenced. (my fav band is Wolfmother). I first heard The Black Keys when I was using my pandora account. But anyway, he is supposed t be a freakin rock star. Not a red neck, granted that he is from Ohio. Where's the leather jacket?

  • @Koolgit

Take your brainwashed consumerist attitude elsewhere, since when the fuck was rock n roll about wearing a certain type of clothing? Seriously? Just fuck off, he can wear whatever the fuck he wants, he's a badass. Would you complain that Neil Young wears a raggedy old shirt and jacket ? Who gives a fuck >_<

  • @Koolgit See? That's the problem with music fans today. Who cares what artists look like or what they're wearing. If you like the music, that's all that matters.

  • alrightyyyy, who the fuck disliked this!!??!!??

  • These people had no idea they were witnessing awesome in the making.

  • Dan & Patrick FTW! <3

  • @chipholden & others: Ummm...why the need to compare and rate the two? Taste is completely subjective ie: to each his/her own. I totally dig Jack White and have seen him live. He is awesome at what he does, no doubt. Love it. I also love Dan's style of singing & playing and The Black Keys' songwriting, as well. Let's just enjoy the different flavors they each bring. I'd hate to have to pick one. Vive la difference!

  • MTV? Damn...

  • dude these guys are the SHIT!!!! fucking awesome

  • WHAT IS THIS SET-UP ?!?!?!?!??!?!

  • I see hes playing through a Fender '59 Bassman. is he using the bypass to the amp on verses etc. ? or is it a pedal. Then what Fuzz pedal is he using at the start

  • gotta love that dry fuzz

  • @samthehiggins do you know what pedal he uses ?

  • @adamhopeless green big muff or hoof fuzz

  • @samthehiggins Thanks man. And is that a Fender '59 Bassman hes playing through ?

  • @adamhopeless yeah, and it looks like he has an 2x12 external cab beside it.

  • It's actually difficult to compare Dan and Jack because they play very different styles. Jack tends to use a pick more often. Dan fingerpicks a lot in order to create "bass" grooves along with the higher notes. As a result, he's usually not able to be as flashy as Jack. But if you watch some of Dan's solo vids with a full band, you'll find he can tear it up when he uses a pick.

To really compare, you'd have to ask them to play the same song, and that's unlikely to ever happen.

  • to the 2 cock-knockers who disliked this vid...... I've a hairy ball for you each to suck on B))

  • lovely teeth

  • Jack White's way better. HE's good, but not as authentic as Jack.

  • @chipholden Singer or guitar player? I think Jack is a better guitar player, but Dan is a much better, and 'authentic' singer.

  • @chipholden they both crank out tasty riffs let's not make them compete

  • @RadiatorBoy agreed.

  • @chipholden explain authenticity?

  • Mind Explosion!!!

  • When MTV was good

  • Why exactly is this song actually called thickfreakness?

    oh nevermind, it simply rocks.

  • 1) David Gilmour

    2) Jimmy Page/Robert Plant

    3) Stevie Ray Vaughan

    4) Dan Auerbach

    5) Eddie Vedder

  • @WlSEGUY

    1) Angus Young

    2) David Gilmour

    3) Jimmy Page

    4) SRV

    5) Dan Auerbach

  • @FlickOfTheSwitch83 I love AC/DC but Angus Young #1? really? are you serious? My list is top 5 musicians, not just guitarists.

  • @WlSEGUY I friggin love Angus Young and AC/DC more than anything on this planet

  • @WlSEGUY eddie vedder isnt a guitarist?

  • @WlSEGUY I don't see Jimi Hendrix on that list...

  • @GoliathWarfare to clarify, that list isn't top 5 guitarists...its MY top 5 music performers (notice Robert Plant and Vedder). But yeah Jimi makes the top 10. I just wanted to state how much i really dig Auerbach!

  • @WlSEGUY Ah ok my bad. I didn't notice Vedder because sometimes he plays guitar and I recognized him as a guitarist and I completely overlooked RobertPlant. Dan Auerbach is very awesome though, he has a great position on your list.

  • @WlSEGUY you forgot Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton

  • @WlSEGUY Are those guitarists? Vedder is mediocre at best, mostly because hes a killer vocalist. You overlooked some obscure black dude named Jimi Hendrix, nbd. Oh yea and Clapton, Keith Richards, Santana, Jeff Beck, Van Halen, Kirk Hammett, Bbking, and even fucking Buckethead. Culture yo self fool

  • @danaownsall no my top 5 list isnt limited to only guitairsts. Those are my top 5 fav musicians, not just instrumental!!! If it was a top 5 guitarist list, Clap would def be on it with Jimi. I put Page with Plant cuz you cant seperate those two

  • @WlSEGUY I see good picks then

  • @danaownsall santana isn't the most killer guitarist either buddy

  • @danaownsall santana isn't the most killer guitarist either buddy

  • @boisErock1 I never said he was the most killer, Im just saying that he is an amazing guitarist. Plus his personal style makes him better than those who are more skilled but have less soul

  • @WlSEGUY you forgot hendrix. Otherwise, i totally agree with u

  • @FilleFraiche1 well Hendrix doesnt make my top 5.... but Dan does. Thats what this post was about

  • @WlSEGUY Your missing Jimi Hendrix bud

  • @WlSEGUY dont get me wrong... i love the keys.... but ur missing A LOT of great guitarists..... Hendrix... Albert King... muddy water...Clapton...hell id put Kenny Wayne Sheppard n Johnny Lang before in the argument.

  • @Pulseless666 nah these are my top 5 musicians, not guitarists. The list would look totally diff then. Vedder and Plant are great singers, not guitarists....

  • @WlSEGUY And Dan Auerbach uses no pick!

  • Comment removed

  • what's that snare?? fukin' awesome!

  • @WlSEGUY

I'll take a stab at it:

Here I am, right here I am, my darling

I’ll care for you because that’s all I got to do

Hold me, love me, in your heart

There’s a second verse on the CD version of this song . .

I'll hold you near and I'll whisper in your ear

I'll take your hand gonna make you understand

Hold me, love me in your heart

  • @WlSEGUY

If you like this video, you've GOT to go check this out. I can't post the link, but go to Google Videos and do a search for The Black Keys Live in Austin. They have the full length show at Emo's from October 24, 2003. It'll blow your mind.

  • What kind of amp is he playing through left to the 59 Bassman?

  • Comment removed

  • BEST THING ON YOUTUBE!!!!..... EVER.

  • I'm thinking about 95% of the people in the audience had NO idea how much awesomeness was about to take place.

  • I love these guys cuz they can write a good song and have great licks but it really is just the white stripes except theres more facial hair and actual drumming.

  • @TheBalloonHoax Exactly my thoughts, I think it's a little too close to the stripes, but man, someone signed them and they are making loads of money....and Jack also basically copied the flat duo jets in a way...just shows there is room at the top still :)

  • Jack White is great but thats its White Stripes have nothing on two Gods named Dan and Patrick, like they say once you go Black you can never go back

  • @dopplerdoesnotlikeu lmfao, what a foolish comment.

  • WTF THE SONGS NOT OVER YET

  • White Stripes 2, that's what it sounds like to me =/

  • @DarkAngelEU They are VERY different bands. The black keys stick more to straight up blues rock. The white stripes are all over the fucking place. I like the two very much but the black keys really rock harder imo.

  • @kevman5 Could be, I don't know the band that well. Friends said I should check 'em out, but they just keep reminding me of others like White Stripes and Triggerfinger, maybe in a month or so I'll try them again and like 'em then (depends on my mood, kinda)

  • @DarkAngelEU Jack White IS the White Stripes. This IS a real duo. Different music anyway. Unfair comparison.

  • @DarkAngelEU Damn Revivalists

  • what pedal he use for this song?

  • We found the beef and it's yummy.

  • 2 people suck

  • 2 people would rather just have thinnormality.

  • @Villiam13

    You're an artist of commentary.

  • Good, but they got so much better since then. This kinda sounds like clutch.

  • patrick went apeshit on those drums

  • I can't get over what I'm hearing from these guys, as well as what I'm NOT hearing (over synthesized music, electronic vocals, bland lyrics, a sound like everyone else on radio).

Pure rock n roll bliss to my ears..

  • 2 viewers got too much honey in their hears. That's sux... For them!

  • these guys are proof theres hope for the modern age of music!!!!

  • ohhhhhhhhhhh yeeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhh!

    this is sexy

  • i wanna know who the sorry ass who disliked this is

  • so much skank! so much beautiful skank!

  • Alright whos the one douchebag that didnt like this. U see me coming u better run boy....

  • how does he play so well while writhing on the floor!! and sing!!! amazing!!!

  • one dude has his ears in the ass

  • this has nothing on beiber seriously

  • sure no dislikes. how can anyone dislike this?

  • 0 people are idiots :)

  • no dislikes. Win.

  • as in the happiness i get from both lol

  • when i give birth to my first child, and hear him cry, this is what i will hear. idk if that makes since but this video is beyond bad ass.

  • @coleriver9 thats one bad ass child

  • Can'tttttttttt Sttttaaaaandddddddddddddd the FUzzzzzzzzynesssssssssss :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • damn they both have tons of stage presence. it's awesome how Dan cant even stand still unless he's at the mic.

  • n just a week back i was thinking all the good bands had died out.. thankgod i was wrong :)

  • black keys rock, i can't wait till i make my video while playing this song for you tube...

  • one of the best live bands ive ever seen

  • An MTV symbol in the corner? WHAT??

  • @LouReedsBooks I know! It's incredible. To think that the Music Television channel played music at one point is beyond me.

  • @drunkassmonkey27 lol it used to be a great time :D

  • Holy shit, I haven't seen it before but now i'm even more in love with this duo - pure awesomeness, I can't even sit still while listening to this, Dan is a genius, period.

  • the black keys rocked me so hard my dick melted
