  • It's been so long since I heard this version that I forgot that I like it better..... <3

  • I know this is the original but the line," i'd love to hate it but you make it like a firework show" is wrong it's" I'm captivated by you baby like a firework show" in both versions.

  • Hahaha I already thought this song was about sex just by the album version But then I heard this one & woah now I'm sure of it!

P.S. Who has Taylor been with that has green eyes?

  • i love this version way more, but i still love the other one on the album. their both great, but i think this one has like a better beat to it, & I like the lyrics in this one more. but, like i said, the one on the album is still AMAZING, & my fav song. :)

    <13

  • someone please help me find the original video of her singing this version live!

  • Pretty Sure she's talking about sex here...But she's 22 guys!! Of course she already thought about it. She's such a good role model, and doesn't do all of the things she wanted , because of US. watch the 6o minutes interview and you'll understand what I'm talking about

  • @esthersimonato18 @pcsout She wrote this when she was like 16, before really promoting the good girl image. No one actually knows who it was about- the only hint she gave was Portland, Oregon.

  • @ndizzle06 jake owen jake owen jake owen

  • I love this version Taylor is amazing <13

  • Prefer the album version!

  • WHY??? did she change it ?? ):|

  • @h2otaylor3 because she has a lot on little girls as her fans & she wanted to keep the song a little more innocent (:

  • I love both versions of this song, but i think that the new version flows better :)

  • I think she met a guy and intantly thought, "Damn i want to get in his pants" which is a very normal thing for a teenage girl to do. I think this song is sexy. And i think she should have kept it this way. It feels very real. (Just to be clear i dont think she did have sex and thats why she wrote this song, i think she just thought about it)

  • I like both versions but I prefer this one because it seems more like something a teenage girl would feel. It's more real. Moreover, I love the background music a little more! It's more country and I love the teenage-y edge it has to it :)

  • @TheLeguro you are right lol i am sad to think she has had sex but it is normal

  • Now this is more like taylor ;)

  • Lol, I remember when this wasn't on a CD....I'm STILL watching this video!! :]]

    P.S. I love the commas. :]

  • Lol, I remember when this wasn't on a CD....I'm STILL watching this video!! :]]

  • I love the first verse of this one, better than the CD version, but I like the CD's version 2nd verse better lol. I wish she had kept the music from this though, it's so much bouncier.

  • i love how this songs sounds more country and the lyrics is wayy dreamy than the album version, but thats just me :)

  • love this song <3 perfect just the way it is, she shouldnt have changed it

  • i think i like this version better

  • I wish I could combine the new version, lyrics and her voice, to the country/banjo beat of the original one. that would be PERFECTION. <3

  • I like this version waaay more then sparks fly on speak now. Not saying that i don't like the other one, i know Taylor worked hard on this song.

But as seen as i heard this version a long time before speak now was released i like this version better <3

  • Memorized both ♥ Love you Taylor. Hope you release this on a platinum edition of speak now or something. That'd be awesome!

  • i like this version so much more than the new one !!!!

  • September 25th 2010 :)

  • Love Love Love Song ! First Lyric Video Of Sparks Fly !

  • As much as I LOOOOOOVE the Speak Now version of this song, the original version will always be the best. :)

  • Fuck off with this texting apple thing!

  • Drop everything now meet me in the pouring rain<13 This is my favorite song line because it was the first line she sang as the curtain was dropped when i went to see her live<13 That night was sparkling<13

  • They replaced the banjos with electric guitars on the updated version. She really is country pop.

  • @ThisChickISASwiftFan

Yeah don't worry I was agreeing with you :). I'm also a huge fan.

  • I LOVE this song !! (:

  • @ThisChickISASwiftFan

It doesn't matter. What she does with her body is her business.

  • it I'm captivated by you like a firework show

  • she wrote this when she was 16 idiots

  • Honestly people, lets clear the air. THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT SEX.

Taylor is really pure, so why would she sing about sex? She doesn't even speak vulgar, let alone sing about sex?

The song about her not wanting to be attracted to the guy, as in embrace (kiss). So she puts up this mental shield, "hope he can't see what i'm thinking" but it is of no use anyway, because she drops that thought and goes with lust instead, not SEX!!!!!!!

  • I'm not saying that she had sex but it does sound like she was fantasizing about it. I think in the bridge of the song she is saying how she would want it to happen when it finally did. :)

  • @ThisChickISASwiftFan thats amazing coz celebrities are normally under a lot of pressure about sex in an indirect way. Taylor seems like an amazing person

  • Wow. I can see her label thinking it was a little sexually suggestive because, well, it is. NOT that having that kind of impulse or desire at 16 is unusual so...I don't know why everyone's got their panties in a bunch here. This version is kinda sexy. I like it. But some of the new lyrics are much more sophisticated, and just, well, better....especially in the second verse. Though I do enjoy the raw and more physical nature of some of the original lyrics.

  • @nyv527 agreed.

  • When I found out she did a studio version i went crazy!

I love this song :) Live and Studio Versions :)

  • I love this version too!

  • EVeryone needs to calm down. Maybe you don't think it's about sex, maybe someone else does. When I herd this song , I thought of it as a sexual song too. Everyone see's things differently.

  • I LOVE this version way better than the cd version, always will. Thanks for putting it up :)

  • whats the font?

  • @mauigirl878 joyful juliana

  • @chelley64 thanks

  • Love this original version

  • she wrote this when she was 16? oh my god....

this is forever my favourite version though

  • how would this be about sex? haha it's about meeting someone and having a connection and wanting to fall in love with the,

  • I like this version better than the studio, I don't know why she changed the lyrics :/

  • **Check out my video to learn how to play the VIOLIN part!!!

  • Yeaah sure, it's about sex -_- OF COURSE NOT!

  • Its really honestly hard to tell if shes saying thunderstorm or movie star. I listened for thundetstorm, and thats what i heard. Then i listened for movie star, and i heard that too.

  • @GOTBIEBER1268 It's very clear to me that it's movie star.

  • how the hell is this about sex? What part in this song makes people think of sex? I know that most, well 99% , of music today is dirty, but why do taylor swifts songs all of a suddenn have to be?

  • How could anyone think this is about sex? Taylor wrote this about Jake Owen in November of 2006 after she opened for him (Jake played after her) in a BAR called Duke's (she described that night in one of her MySpace Blogs). Nothing ever happened between them, though. In that blog, she goes on to say that she met him before the show and had to leave to get on a plane to Toronto after he played the first song of his set. People need to do some research before posting BS, seriously.

  • @GeorgeCostanza00 it doesn't necessarily mean they had sex. it could just be (and probably is) a fantasy. it's all just speculation (:

  • @chelley64 I think you misunderstood what I said. What I meant to say was that NOTHING happened between them and she IS NOT fantasizing about having sex, either. She's fantasizing about kissing him and being with him. The 'bad idea' part stems from the fact that she was 16 at the time and he was 25.

Anyone who is making this crap up couldn't possibly know Taylor or know anything about her.

  • @GeorgeCostanza00 actually, taylor is 20 years old. even if she was 16 at the time, she can think about these things. the fact is, the lyrics can be taken in a sexual way whether it seems like taylor or not.

  • @chelley64 I know how old she is now, she was 16 when she wrote it and that's what counts. Even if she did think about stuff like that, she would never put that out there, trust me. She's a smart girl, and she certainly wouldn't refuse to talk about that subject in interviews, while at the same time putting sexual content into her songs. She also knows that there are lots of kids who come to her shows and look up to her and they certainly don't need to hear about that...

  • @GeorgeCostanza00 *21 years, my bad.

  • @GeorgeCostanza00 but his eyes aren't green...

  • @GeorgeCostanza00 Well to me it sounds a little like she is...I don't think she is but it sounds like it.

Exhibit A: I fell in love in an empty bar (if you didn't research it, which people don't generally do, it sounds suspicious)

Exhibit B: Take me down, baby bring on the movie star (what's that supposed to mean?)

Exhibit C: Get me with those green eyes baby as the lights go down (Why are the lights going down?)

And Exhibit D, the one that really has people wondering..And watch the lights go ou

  • @GeorgeCostanza00 (con't) Lead me up the staircase, won't you whisper soft and slow? I'd love to hate it, BUT YOU MAKE IT LIKE A FIREWORK SHOW

Doesn't that sound a little suspicious?

  • @GeorgeCostanza00 actually what you're saying isn't true either. cmt just interviewed her about it.

  • @rrc416 sorry, ignore that. my friend was on my name but i explained she's wrong. hahah.

    @GeorgeCostanza00

  • love this so much <33

  • @Pieceofpeace ....Uhm sorry to break it to you but on the cd version she cut out the thunderstorm/superstar line "Tay fan" sorry hon

  • @Pieceofpeace .....Uhmm sorry to break it to u but on the cd version she cut the thunderstorm/superstar line O.o

  • So excited this song is dropping onto country radio stations! I love it, I hope you like my cover, would love to know what you think :)

  • Ok I bought the cd! It has all the lyrics on the case and it's thunderstorm!!!!! If u bought it you would know " Tay fan" sorry hon. ;)

  • @Peiceofpeace you just bought the cd it came out in October!!!!

  • This is going to be her next single.. I'm SOOO EXCITED!

  • @EllynSwiftyFan You know you could have bought it months ago, when it came out.... right??

  • @00watermelon I bought the CD when it came out... Oct. 25..so yeah, I did know that...

  • @EllynSwiftyFan, I bought Speak Now the first day it came out too. :)

  • love the original one, but she probably had to change the lyrics involving a bar for her audience.

  • @3koukla it actually says ballroom, not bar..

  • @3koukla Yeah. BAR is so risqué. :P

  • @rachelandsky13 In 2007.

  • I miss the country in her songs :(

  • i like this version better because i heard it first

  • Where is this from and is there no video like with her in it?

  • guys... taylor obviously changed it a LITTLE for a reason. respect her choice! if anyone thinks this is better or worse, they are not a true fan, because a true taylor fan respects all of taylors choices. the new ones lyrics are much betetr anyway

  • @westportproductions "the new ones lyrics are much better anyway" you just contradicted yourself. just saying.

  • I love this version and I dont know why she change the lyrics! TAY-TAY SWIFT RULES!!!!

  • Why would anybody think the song was about sex? Just because it's about love doesn't mean it's about sex?

  • I wish somebody would post the lyrics on here right for once, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm just saying.

  • @2008skyblueflowers that's funny because these are right

  • @chelley64 No they're not. It's "bring on the thunder storm" not "bring on the movie star" which doesn't even make sense...

  • @zobothehobo lol can you hear

she's saying to treat her like in the movies

  • @chelley64 I can hear. She clearly says "bring on the thunderstorm." "Take me down, baby bring on the thunderstorm" makes A LOT more sense than "Take me down bring on the movie star." treating her like a movie star would be lifting her up. "Take me down" implies some sort of pain... "I don't need paper lanterns" is what leads up to that line... why would she not need paper lanterns if she wanted him to treat her like a movie star? You're wrong.

  • @zobothehobo oh please.

anyways, i just searched up the lyrics again and there's a dispute between "movie star" and "movie score"

    no hint of "thunderstorm"

    sorry hon (:

  • @chelley64 I have been a part of many conversations about this. Thunderstorm IS disputed to. I am NOT the only one who thinks it's thunderstorm, and I don't appreciate the implication that I am or the attempt to make me look like an idiot who has no idea what she is talking about.

LOOK more people who think what I do! By the way, the seventh post down has the lyrics I think it is. They make the most sense

  • @chelley64 connect.taylorswift. com/forum/thread/5191/quotSparks_Flyquot_Thread/33 was the link it woulnd't let me post take out the spaces inbetween . and com

  • @chelley64 yeah I think she says "movie score" because why would she need a movie star if she has this guy already? I don't really think she's trying to have a threesome in this song. anyway, a movie's score is like its theme song so i think that's what she is referring to -- or like when the movie ends at happily ever after and the people "ride off into the sunset" she's just kinda saying it's time to get out of the bar... hence the next few lines.

  • @ihopethesunshines13 hmm, i can see where you're coming from, but i think she's saying to bring out the movie star inside of him. you know, treat her right.

  • I definetly think that's what she's saying too because it makes more sense than movie star or thunderstorm plus it rymes with floor. I think there's a couple other lyrics that are wrong too but who cares, it's hard to hear and it's not the version she released anyway. I like this version better! Also, I just wanted to say, I could see why someone would think it was aboutsex but I don't think she meant it that way and even if she did, who cares? She's human, she thinks about it too! :) ~ ♥Alyssa

  • sometimes i return to this version, just cause it shows like how far she has come :')

  • I actually like this version better

  • It was written about Jake Owen. She opened for him in a bar called duke's or something like that in Portland, Oregon in 2006. She wrote a blog about how much she adored Jake... Google Taylor Swift Jake owen if you want to see for your own eyes.

  • The Story of Us is my fave song off Speak Now, but I really wish she would've released this song instead.

  • @jalapeno1119 This is the next single, but obviously the new lyrics instead of these ones.

  • I personally like this version better, but both are amazing and Taylor is the best songwriter!

  • This is an amazing live version. But it was her album that brought me here. Both are good in their own way, really no point trying to argue which is better.

  • After hearing this version and the version on the album I've come to the conclusion that this song is about Taylor fantasizing about a boy. Not just any boy, a boy that makes her feel every emotion in the book. In the beginning she says "I really wish you would..." and then she gets into it. She wishes this guy would do this. And if you listen to both versions it almost songs like she is fantasizing about having sex with this guy! "I run my fingers through your hair and I watch the lights go wi

  • personally, i think she should have kept the second verse and the bridge like this one. the other changes in the first verse were good though :)

  • guys neither version is better. taylor swift is too old to be singing about paper lanterns and falling in love in ballrroms. the lyrics in the new one are more mature and meaningful, and this version is just more catchy. ill admit the one on speak now could be a little more like thsi one musical wise, but lyrically the new one is 10x better

  • Please watch my cover of this song on my channel. I love the song and would like to get some feedback on my acoustic version! Great song :)

  • You are my favorite singer you sing beautiful I went to your concert last night I loved it sad because I didn't get pit pass

  • at the very least, she should have kept the fiddle section before the bridge :/

  • the other day i was singing the recorded version of sparks fly, but i randomly came out with this version. its just sooooo catchy;D

  • These lyrics are better than the ones in her Speak Now album. She should change them back!

  • @NiceWhereYouAre OH MY GOD SHUTUP AND I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!! I NEVER SAID I HATED IT!!!!!! SO JUST SHUTUP I SAID THT IM GLAD SHE MADE A RECORDED VERSION CUZ NOW ITS ON CD AND I CAN LISTEN TO IT IN THE CAR YOU OVER REACTING JERK

  • this version is so much better

  • @NiceWhereYouAre tht made no sense, and im saying im so happy tht she sold this song so shutup jerk who really needs to read overthings

  • both versions are great in their own ways!

  • @NiceWhereYouAre ok sorry :S

  • I love the song, but I think the lyrics on the album are better. But I reaaaally want this country version recorded ! :(

  • i still love this version better than the studio version <3

  • i dont think this song is sexual. i think it shows the want to be with someone and hope they feel the same way....but not for sex. i like one of the lines in the new version more, but i agree with the generic pop instead of country. the country is what makes taylor swift.

  • i dont think this song is sexual....i think it shows the want and dream to be with someone. not just for sex. i like one of the lines in the new one better, but overall, i would much rather listen to this with the country than the pop version. thats what made taylor swift different.

  • do you know when/where she sang this version?

  • I have to disagree with the comments I read. I think the new version is better.
