I've noticed this too. It's very rare to find someone with a mic talking in Battlefield 3. Your right, it's a team based game. People need to communicate in order to work together and win a match. I'm usually in a party chat with my brothers or a buddy. I completely agree with you.

I have not played BF3,lost interest after Bad Company 2 and the Beta for BF:Free2Play.
But when i did play it on Xbox most people were either raging at each other or playing random music over the mic.
If i were you i would enjoy the silence while it last's lol.
But i do agree with you that people don't talk on-line much in general,not just on BF3,communication is the key to winning most team based game's.

Same thing on PS3. I was just playing a few matches last week and switched squads occassionally for this very reason. Such a bummer!
