US SMUs already use women for roles they are needed in, it's nothing new. SAS uses females from the Det for NI ops. Two men sitting in a hotel room or a car on some street attracts unwanted attention. One man and one women in those same roles, don't. They are not and will not be shooters but they do important work.

Let me clarify something... I hear a lot of people using SF universally. SF is Special Forces... aka Green Berets in the Army. Special Operations or SpecOps refers to SOCOM which is Special Operations Command, which houses SF, SEALs, MARSOC, and AFSOC. They can also be referred to as Special Operations Forces... or SOF. I however, don't know of any service member who refers to them as SOF. Not saying there aren't any... just saying, I nor any other I know, says SOF.

@arnepols It's a laser designator used to paint targets for guided bombs. The scope on top is most likely a night vision scope with an IR (Infrared) laser. At night, it's hard to tell if you laser is on target, but a IR beam is like a second laser, distinguishable only to todays night vision.

Over the last few vids on Recon and MARSOC I saw guys training on several weapons that are not American made. Are there any units in the Marine Corps, where individuals get to chose their own weapons or is every weapon chosen by the command? Just wondered.

there are still Force Recon companies. they were absorbed into Marsoc for the first few years because they wanted to fill it up with skilled operators. but now they have enough and the MEU still needs its own organic Force Recon. FR works for Marines, Marsoc works for SOCCOM first, then Marines in terms of priority.

well, just taking a guess here, but special operations command work more in the dark than they do in the light. Maybe the solid color works better in the dark than MARPAT MCCUU's do. I've seen MARPAT patterns in almost complete darkness and it kind of makes them more noticeable than if they were to wear solid colors.

The Raiders were a unit created in WWII and was disbanded when the war ended. They are considered to be one of the first Special Forces units in the world and were badass in their day. Both the Force Recon and MARSOC are based on them.

Marines may be the last to get spec-ops, but they've has special operations capable units for a long time now. They just never officially joined because they didn't want non-Marines commanding Marines (if you join SOCOM, you could have for instance an Army guy commanding Marines)
