I waited on Mr. Guaraldi at the Ahwahnee Hotel in the 90's, he arrived at the end of lunch so the room was practically empty when I cleared the dishes and let him know there was a certain Steinway that was just dying to meet him :-)
There's a lot of crappy versions of this song out there on YouTube, but this one is terrific – very well done! This video brings tears to my eyes, recollecting how much I looked forward to watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special on TV every year. Nice improvisation also.
i play cello for about 3 years so it helps cus the left hand on the piano is the same notes for cello so it helps but ya ,
p.s i know its hard to keep the fingers so perfect if you are stretching them to like over an octave, i can only stretch mine 9 keys so i am not one to talk
or maybe i just never played your styli as much as i like to say i am pro i dont know every thing =)
i am a pro, am 11 and have been playing for 9 years, but for 8 years i played by ear and now i have to know notes now and its like starting over so i am full of bad feeling so take it like i was trying to mean i am just a brat
I love the song and you plat awesome but i would try and curve your fingers more, i am not trying to be mean or a kill joy but if this were me playing thins my teacher would be on me about it so ya lol
@harrypotterlover881 As a professional pianist, there are different techniques of playing. You learn to curve your fingers when you are a beginner but once you become a pro, different ways of hitting the keyboard produces different tone. Curving is usually used for classical pieces, not even Romantic (Chopin, etc.). Jazz is mostly played like this. You've got a lot to learn! There are special circumstances for playing. I do criticize this video for steadiness of tempo but that is very minor.
Never played the piano... or any instruments for that matter, but this really seems hard to pull off with both hands playing a totally different roll.
What a GREAT TUNE. I attempted to learn it in college. I was barely able to accomplish the main riff which came out "choppy" for lack of better words. You are right Mr. JazzGuy251. If you have a difficult time playing 2 different rhythms on each hand respectively you will encounter a daunting task. It WILL take lots & lots of practice to even remotely tolerate at speed. JazzGuy251 makes it look (and sound) fairly easy to play, but trust me, he is extremely talented, to say the least. Being a gu
So far, this is the most accurate version I have heard. Even David Benoit's version is literal GARBAGE compared to this. However, this is still not accurate to the cartoon. I will keep looking.
and are you self taught? I don't actually play piano, but isn't proper technique playing supposed to be like playing with tennis balls in you hands to you are pressing down with finger, but not inverting the knuckle?
and also, on a scale from one to ten, one being like learning chopsticks and ten being like not a chance, how hard do you think it would be for someone who doesnt play the piano to learn this song, i have basic musical theory understanding and play guitar....
@MSIEATRICE (not the video poster but I also play piano)
This song isn't that difficult... But there's a difference between "I don't play piano" and "I've never played piano." If you've never played and struggle with the concept of playing a different rhythm in each hand, I wouldn't suggest trying to learn this. But if you have the basics of piano down, you can learn this song with lots and lots of practice.
@MSIEATRICE. There's always a chance to play any song. I self-teach some of my songs, but I've taken Jazz lessons for years. You can definitely learn this song with lots of practice. Based on your experience, I'd suggest the easy piano version that is for sale.
Great cover man! I was learning this song a few months ago and it gave me a hard time because I'm left-handed. Did you make the solos yourself or were they written in a different version?
