i bought this single as soon as it came out and played it to death. i remember the critics gave the album crap reviews at the time . it wasnt until the release of wildwood that they gave him any credit which i couldt figure out . this album is better than wild wood
Coolest song by one of England's finest. This video is a piece of long lost used to be England - reminds me of growing up in suburbia - a lost world. Heart-breaking but wonderful at the same time. Thank you, Mr. Weller
...and wit too - i just remembered - the cd had a pause in the middle, with the sound of someone turning over a record, and the pop and crackle of the stylus dropping back onto the vinyl...
...first heard this album while on E at a friends house - it blew us all away - the album had a blue soul feel, and in the recession hit uk under major in 92 it fitted perectly for us - this said more to my circle than any grunge trax of the time, or the ubiquitous techno stuff of that pre- britpop era...

this was the start of the second coming for paul, although this song was very overlooked at the time which is difficult to believe really. taken from one of the best albums of all time and before the cool brittania band wagon had begun which just sums it up really.weller forevever.hcafc.
Genius, you are Weller.

Unreal, he was only 31 or 32 when he wrote this. Already been through The Jam, Style Council and onto solo.

What do you mean long lost? Is this part of England gone now and if so, what has it been replaced by?

this song always makes me think of my grandma from ripley, something about the lyrics.

It's fun to see how Liam Gallagher (and band) in more than one way have been inspired by Paul, his vid, his stance etc.
Check out how Liam just stands and stares at the gigs for example. Paul does the same in this one.

Fabsolutely. Can't believe it's almost 17 years old.Sounds good as ever.
I love the scenes filmed around his hometown of Woking.Reminds me of the suburbs of Massachusetts.
