Prior to that they sang about masturbation and cross dressing. Funny thing is, their older stuff is 100x better than the new garbage they put out. They're hardly a political band, and certainly don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the Clash, and aren't carrying on any of the Clash's legacy.

I will forever love this band and I loved Joe, but Joe firing Jonesy was like firing Page from Zeppelin for God's sake. Joe FUCKED it up big time when he did that. They also had the best god damn drummer of his generation. Topper is only matched by John Bonham himself in my mind. Damn Joe, why'd you mess it up so badly?? Breaks my heart just thinking about it. One of the last great bands. RIP.

@streetparade At least Joe admitted what a terrible mistake he made in firing both of them. If you watch Westway to the World, towards the end Joe says something about how he didn't realize that the Clash was not just about him, but about the chemistry of those four people (Joe, Mick, Paul, Topper) being together - something that could never be recreated. And if you watch The Future is Unwritten, it's pretty clear that Joe lived with that regret for many, many years afterwards.

@streetparade Yes,I agree but they had run their course. I saw them several times and even once gatecrashed a soundcheck. What great memories. Strummer should never have tried to carry on without Jones. I saw them on the last tour with a couple of youngsters filling in and they were fucking shit. I prefer to remember them in their prime, coming on to '16 tonnes' and then straight into 'I fought the law'. Happy, happy days.
