Gota agree its great. Love the use here of song and pics to teach people. I always find the best way to explain the battle to anyone learning is to veiw the land from the wallace monument.. Like many patriots I have had some of my sweetest moments up there
@TheJacobiker I really dont like the term Patriot. It makes this nation look bad.The nation that has sectarian problems making us look like dirt abroad.Just down to people not knowing the main City, that it gets the bad rep.The City that I am from, and have many friends and relatives from the other side.Who I have known all my life. Some are Labour some are SNP.And the way things are going, some will be SNP.My point is un like Ireland,we can get Independence without any needless in human violence.
@brawladdie1 Any plans to post the rest of Scottish Battle Ballads? One of my favourite albums growing up. Still in my Dad's vinyl collection somewhere I hope.
The version you hear appeared on 'Scottish Battle Ballads', released c.1967 amid the 1960s resurgence of nationalism and re-emergence of the SNP. The album was re-issued (late 1970s?) with a backing band, which, in my opinion, did not improve it, and slightly sanitised lyrics which toned down the passion of the original tracks. That re-issue also appeared on audio cassette.
Yeah, isn't it? Especially that passage "some were left tae dee" - it's really so cool, no, not cool, chilling! I wish there were more emphasis on the line "Moray cut him doon". But anyway, McDonald is great with this particular song!))
@rosswatt1979 Well, I've been listening tae the Corries version for last six years, so this one was a refreshing change. I'm not going to discuss it, I prefer this one, you like the other, it's perfectly allright. And of course, I have no disrespect for the Corries by any means possible.

His version of Melville Castle is good too. You can kinda imagine the borderers running around during that time period.

Alistair McDonald puts the fire back into these old battle songs, I hope he keeps recording more.
