Dexter gave an interview when the song came out. He grew up in Garden Grove, a suburb in Orange County, CA, and the song really is about the street he lived on. Of all the kids he grew up with, many ended up dead, (from suicide or whatever), or living a life of addiction, alcoholism, etc. For those of us who grew up in similar suburbs around the same time (60s - 70s), this song is about something we all know too well. Like many Offspring songs, the lyrics in this song are brilliant.

To understand the video, you have to understand the lyrics, which tell how our childhood dreams are often crushed by self-destruction. The video is set in an ugly, dilapidated room—the ruin that results from self destruction. The video shows young people—their dreams and talents—with images of self destruction (a young man zipping himself into a body bag, another pouring blood over his head, etc.) The last image is ironic: The seemingly normal family, where all of this is rooted.

I was at woodstock 1999 these guys blew the place apart. Everyone started throwing bottles that laid on the ground, why? got me. . The Offspring had to stop playing..
