I loved the show, but honestly, the dresses look ridiculous. The brides are unable to walk or sit elegantly in them, clomping up the aisle. A bride should be poised and elegant. As for the little girls in their almost non-existent clothing dancing ruder than strippers, that's shocking

Watching the ceremonies breaks my heart because their faces show just how frightened, sad, or sweetly unaffected they are. They are still half-child; too young to understand the enormity of the vows they are making, how much their lives will change, or that what they're sure they'll always want, may change 180 degrees in ten years.

I honestly respect this culture,I learned about them in my anthropology class.As a Muslim, we also cannot have sex before marriage it is only logical..& even in our culture, women get married at a young age,it would be very strange for a woman in the middle east to have passed lets say the age of 26 and is still not married..I am 20 and I am engaged to my highschool sweetheart.I actually think getting married younger is much better.But it all depends on the person.Their dresses look exotic!

@jajajah86 No, gypsies are generally descended from Romanians. They are technically a European country and have olive skin. I've got Romanian ancestry and my grandma has a few ethnic looks but she's Caucasian. These "gypsies" however are Irish, which were never really gypsies so the second part is right.
@MoonlightPlaylist Although you are partly correct, the gypsies of romania were a mixture of people from countries around india and the romans. So they would be darker skinned and brunettes but not pure Indian.

You're thinking of the Roma/Romany/Romani gypsies, which is a separate group and culture from Romania, although a lot of Roma do live in Romania. The similarity in name is merely coincidental, since Roma gypsies trace way back from India.

I was more trying to explain how gypsies could be somewhat European since the roma people have lived in Europe for so long. Sorry if I explained poorly!

However they don't look like the latinos, arabic or balck people or any other group of people living closer to or in Europe. @jajajah86 There are a number of different kinds of Gypsies/Gipsys... yes there are Gypsies that originated in India (Banjara for instance), but 'Irish Traveller' Gypsies as depicted mainly in this doc, can date their Irish history back to the middle ages. Romani Gypsies are also depicted throughout the series, are believed to originate in Egypt. Long story short- there are a *lot* of different types of Gypsies from all over the world. :-)

@jajajah86 There are a number of different kinds of Gypsies/Gipsys... yes there are Gypsies that originated in India (Banjara for instance), but 'Irish Traveller' Gypsies as depicted mainly in this doc, can date their Irish history back to the middle ages. Romani Gypsies are also depicted throughout the series, are believed to originate in Egypt. Long story short- there are a *lot* of different types of Gypsies from all over the world. :-)

I agree with MsOneiroi77, these are not proper gypsies, their traveller. majority of real gypsies could never afford this, majority of real gypsies couldn't even afford much more then a make shift shack to live in, the only real rich gypsies are the ones still living in romania exploiting their own people. Real gypsies are more likely to sell, or marry off their children when their as young as seven because their doing what they can to survive in societies where absolutely no one will help them

I don't quite agree with the marriage at such a young age or not being expected to try to provide at least a bit for yourself, but I can honestly say I do agree strongly with the no sex before marriage and no living together before marriage. The older ways are hard for most people to stick to, so if they are happy, let them be happy.

The Gypasies have been treated poorly in rather unfair ways due to a lack of understanding!
