A spirit of a Go player from 1000 years ago (Sai)

appears to a young boy (Shindou) and sets him on the path of becoming a strong player. Along the way, he confronts the strongest player his age (Akira) as a possible rival. The series revolves around this rivalry, the relationship between Sai and Shindou, the conflict from Shindou having to play for himself and Sai, and the internal developement of all the main characters. Amazing anime; my favorite so far.
