True, true. Awards don't really tell us much about the comic itself, or it's readability. And for every award I've seen given to a title, I've seen 5 other titles of equal caliber shafted. The Awards culture tends towards the stuffy and self-congratulatory. You can almost predict the kind of comics that will be up for selection, which I take issue with. It's no longer about finding and awarding good comics but about perpetuating an image, I find. Hence, webcomics must be "allowed" to take part.
story + art + characters > awards. This is the whole reason that I prefer Yellow Peril to a number of more "popular" web comics.
