I was not old enough to go into Coffee Bars etc. In fact, I was still at junior school. But my memories of these days are just as vivid as any "then teenager". Long live rock and roll. THIS kinda rock and roll.
Just Like Eddie is also a great example of Clem Cattini's drumming. Do I remember correctly that his son posted here or one of the other Heinz links? I'm trying to find the sticking pattern for the drums. Anyone help?
@Eurocub Sorry mate Clem was not on this session. The band is The Outlaws, Ritchie Blackmore guitar, Chas Hodges bass, Mick Underwood drums and Ken Lundgren guitar. The Outlaws were pretty much Joe Meek's house band for this period and beyond and this line up did most of the Heinz recordings and many more. Clem was not involved at all and contrary to the Meek film did not appear live with The Outlaws at any time.
I loved this song - I can remember exactly what I was doing when I first heard this song!!! I was 15 and studying for GCE's in Malta - it was hot, it was the 60's and it was fun - we had the British Army in Malta where we used to arrange blind dates to meet soldiers - mainly guardsmen - it was all so innocent!!! We didn't indulge in sex or anything to dishonour ourselves - we were just friends with them. It has all got too ugly now - the songs of the 60's were extraordinary.
We lived in holloway road and would walk into meeks studio in holloway road. One day we met Heinz Burt and he gave us a load of his post cards with a photo of Heinz on one sde of the card and he told us to give them to our friends.
We ran down the stairs into the street and threw all the photos cards up in the air,Heinz saw this from the upstair window and chased us down to the Nags head he was fuming mad.
Can someone upload ` Can't You Hear The Beating Of My Heart ' by Heinz, another Joe Meek production I think.Did you see the television documentary a few years ago titled `The Legendary Joe Meek',really good and an amazing insight.
Joe Meek used to slip the technician transcribing his tape masters to acetate disc 10/- (50p!) to go heavy on the bass to give real dynamic when played on a juke box. Got it on my Seeburg Discotheque Juke Box and , believe me boys- THAT'S THE WAY TO PLAY IT!!!!!! Great days, neat playing from young Blackmore who did excellent work on Jack The Ripper by Sutch.
god - I lived through this first hand - I even saw Heinz at the Colston with Jerry Lee Lewis and Gene Vincent. I felt so sorry for him as the audience gave him a really hard time which he didn't deserve. The record brings back almost overwhelming feelings from that time.
I am quite sure yes, it says in Ritchie Blackmores biography that "In May 1962 the Outlaws landed a prestigous slot as part of a package tour with top american performers Jerry Lee Lewis and Gene Vincent, thanks to Joe Meek managing to get Heinz on the bill. The group got to open with their own set before providing backing for both Lewis and Heinz" They played a tour together in England and some nights in Hamburg. =)
Hey..I remember listening to this one while walking through the streets of London with the tranny held to my ears and listening to radio Caroline, Wow!! Great days..thanks
Heinz Burt was Joe Meeks favourite hole.

Could any tour have been more unsuitable for a brand new singer?
I can't imagine what today's equivalent might be.
Heinz showed strength of character by going onstage every night and doing his act.
Others might have been technically better singers and musicians but Heinz loved performing and he had great stage presence. He entertained!
His chart success was due mainly to Meek and the extra effort Joe put into anything by Heinz - good pop songs which still lift spirits.
