  • RESPONSE TO DESCRIPTION: Im trying this out at home as I watch this video Making a hydrogen ballon

  • @MarioKartFan2132 fine with me, long as im not responsible for any injuries that might occur lol

  • Nice video. I've never actually had one eat it up in front of my eyes. But then again, it's because I put it in a glass bottle, attach a balloon on top, and collect the hydrogen. I can keep it (not for long though), because it's lighter than Hydrogen. Or I can bang it, because it doesn't need much heat to ignite. It once exploded in my hand. It burnt some arm-hair, and was a bit wet (it forms H2O), but otherwise, it didn't particularly hurt. Fill a giant balloon for extra fun.

  • what can i use as a substitute for NaOH and a substitute for Napha, i need the same chemical structure or atleast as familiar as possible, and i need it from household products. Im trying to extract DMT from lawn grass with household products

  • @Hrko1992 im sorry i cannot help you and i do not condone the use of DMT or any kind of psychadellic drug, dont screw up your life. Please yield my precaution, i have seen many lives become fucked over because of drugs, many of whom i used to know

  • @spartan2527 am...DMT is the molecule that our pineal gland naturally produces,it is the chemical that causes an out of body experience during rem sleep(dreams). Im trying to crystalize it for a personal experience. Yes, some drugs are bad. Meth, cocaine, heroin, morphine, opium, LSD are bad. But, in my experience, Mescaline, MDMA, THC and psylocibin are good, expand your mind, enlighten the mind, and most importantly, answer the question of all questions: is there life after death of the body.

  • @spartan2527 oh and, what some people call a near death experience is actually your brain releasing x900 dosage of DMT. when u sleep, dmt is released by your pineal gland so it causes dreams. dreams are a x4 dosage. when smoking crystallized dmt extracted from lawn grass or banana peels or any other plant really(all plants contain DMT), the out of body experience is a x700 dosage, which is x200 less than your brain releases right before you die. Some drugs are bad for you, others are good for you

  • @spartan2527 you have to research first, everyone knows ciggarettes and alcohol and cocaine and meth and heroin and morhpine and other narcotics are very bad and addictive. Therefore I have never done them and never will because everyone sais theyre bad. But i did all the ''drugs'' that people that have done them said they are good. Everyone that does DMT sais its the most beautiful and life appreciating experience ever. Everyone that did heroin and meth and cocaine, say its pain and suffering.

  • @spartan2527 anyway, dont believe everything you read or hear, because some of it isnt true. whats true and what isnt is for you alone to experience or decide. its your journey and youre life, you are the weaver of your dream and you create your own luck, happiness and destiny. i have no idea what carcinogenic means. Anyway, have fun dude, *turns on my parental voice fueled by goverment propaganda* and remember kids, dont do drugs. theyre bad even tho i've never tried them.

  • @spartan2527 DMT or Dimethyltryptamine is syntheticly produced in your pineal glans, in the lower part of your brains. It is the molecule that gives you an out of body experience during deep stage REM sleep(dreams). During the dream state, DMT is released in a x4 concentration, but, if extracted from lawn grass or banana peels or any other plant(since ALL plant life has DMT inside them) then it is a x900 concentration. DMT is the portal to the afterlife.

  • @Hrko1992 btw if you mean naptha, that shit is carcinogenic

  • @Hrko1992 fuck off drug addict, go ruin your life i'm sure you already have

  • @TheChickenrun3 Please do not give statements about drugs if you have not tried any. Its like saying pizza does not taste good even tho your whole life you have been eating carrots and have never tried pizza. I have tried various drugs and in my experience, the only bad drugs are processed opium, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamines, crack, morphine, alcohol and tobacco. Other drugs such as mushrooms, cannabis, lsd, mdma(extazy), mescaline are not hazardous to mental or physical health.

  • @Hrko1992 Depends how processed it is, if you just extract black tar opium then it's not so bad. Regular opium is practically harmless is smoked or eaten and just to let you know, Methamphetamine's are part of Amphetamine "Phenyl" group which your MDMA and MDA comes from.

  • @TheChickenrun3 But then again, eating pizza can make you fat.

  • What happens if you burn aluminum foil with a flame?? Does a reaction occur? If there is a reaction is it a redox reaction??? Anyone pls?

  • GAH! ADD BASE TO WATER. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Strong bases and acids dissolving in water is HIGHLY EXOTHERMIC.

  • ' decomposes aluminum into hydrogen gases' who fooled you? :))))))

  • @thezeved if you would have read through the comments i post " this happens because the aluminum takes an oxygen atom from the Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) which in turn takes an oxygen atom out of the water. This reaction releases the two hydrogen atoms bonded to the one oxygen atom in water."

  • @spartan2527 If you do what you did on the vid, except in a bottle. It would explode.

  • Drano. jesus Kid, watch out.

  • what if you put acetone in there would it just burn through the plastic cup or have a reaction to the h20 and na0h?

  • howcome the acid didnt go through the paper cup

  • @Model1337s Sodium Hydroxide does not react with styrofoam

  • @Model1337s It's an alkaline. It doesn't react with steel or plastic, either.

  • he is obviously from a third world country where kids can buy anything!

  • @jackslaughters lol damn it you found me out!!!!! I live in Kommiefornia!

  • How does aluminum became hidrogen??? o.O

  • @YenisseiM this happens because the aluminum takes an oxygen atom from the Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) which in turn takes an oxygen atom out of the water. This reaction releases the two hydrogen atoms bonded to the one oxygen atom in water.

  • where the hell are his parents? ha

  • I'll give you a dollar to touch it

  • Molten NaOH can eat borosilicate glass. I keep wondering why there are more bases that seem generally to be so much stronger than acids. Stronger in the literal sense I mean not chemistry sense.

  • really really dumb kids. this is pretty idiotic and really dangerous.

  • @Zeus1337est the only thing that could've really injured me was the chemical burns, and that would only happen if i happened to step on the bowl and splash the solution onto my arms or clothes. Otherwise the hydrogen would have dissipated to cause any potential danger.

  • @spartan2527 In that concentration nothing has been diluted enough. That's pure NaOH. 40 grams makes one liter of a 1 molar solution. You probably used close to that many grams, and in far less water. Your solution was probably 10 molar or higher. Also, what "hydrogen" is a danger? NaOH is a base... that's OH-.

  • @spartan2527 Or you could of lost balence when you were squatting down causing you to break the fall with your arm accedetally hitting the side of the bowl and having that splash in your eyes

  • @Awesomenizzleness hahaha damn you're right

  • @Zeus1337est only if your a moron, if you know what ur doing then ur fine

  • @jackvincent90 If you're talking about "hydrogen dissipating" you obviously don't know what you're doing. NaOH is a base (and a fairly strong one at that). That forms hydroxide, not hydrogen

    NaOH + H2O -> Na+ + OH- + H20

  • @Zeus1337est the only hydrogen produced is from the burning, and that is just hydrogen gas, that won't matter

  • So why doesint the solution go through the styrofome

  • @suckerforclassics2 Non metalic\reactive. I'm surprised it didn't melt a little though.

  • can i get aluminum powder if i do that then put a filter in a can then filter that mixture?

  • You can't stop that reaction with water, use a weak acid. If you have this stuff on your skin and get it wet, you will just injure yourself more if rinsing with water. NAOH gets really hot besides being caustic as shit, when mixed with water, so use vinegra to rise it off with. You can buy it in most supermarkets and hardware stores, under names such as Lye, Caustic soda, drain-o ect.

  • @ABOlsen69666 But if your using it for something like an alkaloid extraction or anything your going to (eventually) eat make sure it's lab grade or at least the little white pellets. Don't use the green syrup drain-o with flecks of metal in it.

  • lol what is gonne happen if you put it in your eyes :P

  • Basic chemistry experience, you can just make the reaction stop by adding a lot of water. Anyone seen Fightclub? That's what the guy puts on his hand... I suggest you spread some on a towel, see what it gives...

  • Comment removed

  • where did you get the NaOH? oh nice vid thanks for sharing it :D

  • you can use this to make hydrogen balloon that will fly in sky :)

  • what will be form when NaoH add to H20??

  • @aqwer75 just a NaOH solution, nothing else. You just need the H20 as a medium for the NaOH.

  • @spartan2527 you mean solvent. Or liquid phase interface for contact.

  • take that aluminum foil

  • Wow. So you Mixed a sodium, helium and hydrogen solution with water? Very cool experiment^^ How'd you come across it?

  • @AnimeObsession3000 what helium? there's no helium in NaOH

  • @spartan2527 Ack! I mean, hydrogen, oxygen and sodium. I don't know how I messed that up. lol.

  • @AnimeObsession3000 hahah its ok

  • try that with a lipo battery :p

  • so it burns thru foil but not styrofoam (can't spell it)

  • @Bleachfanatic54 actually the NaOH solution only reacts with the aluminum and not the styrofoam, and the "burning" is just merely an exothermic reaction of the aluminum dissolving into the solution and releasing hydrogen gas

  • asian fucker

  • @brunxelfx wuts with the racism???? I just don't understand people like you.... do you think ur cool or funny or something? trying to impress people online just means u have no fuckin life

  • @spartan2527 hes not trying to impress people lol ur the definiton of a nerd look at u

  • @puppystomper324 i don't know who ur talking bout??? anyways im not a nerd, i got to a private school so i have to wear a uniform and i just came home from school so please get ur facts straight before commenting. thanks for the stupidity tho

  • @puppystomper324 i don't know who ur talking bout??? anyways im not a nerd, i got to a private school so i have to wear a uniform and i just came home from school so please get ur facts straight before commenting. thanks for the stupidity tho

  • @spartan2527 private school=nerdy asians=good at math=nerdy uniforms=nerdy knowing to much about chemicals=nerdy ur a nerd now shut the fuck up god i love trolling u guys never get it

  • @puppystomper324 id rather be nerdy than a fuckin retard who only relies on stereotypes to back up his comments. so why did u watch this vid again??? Why dont u shut the fuck up and stop trolling. o and by the way i think u need to get a fucking life because posting videos about videos games aint so cool.

  • @spartan2527 LOLOL omg ur the retard here im just fucking with u i even fav this video i thought it was cool wow no one can take trolling anymore

  • @puppystomper324

    who gives a crap troll

  • Sodium hydroxide doesnt '' burn '' it turns soapy and starts agitating.

  • @LV30000 it becomes a strong base.

  • Put a match above those bubbles hehe.

  • NaOH is sodium hydroxide, commonly called Lye.

  • Were can i but sodium hydroxide?

  • i used LiOH and it worked fine

  • too young to work with sodium hydroxide!

  • incoming bubbling deathly shit.

  • NaOH + H20 -> NaOH + H2O, its double replacement

  • i wanna know where that little kid got solid sodium hydroxide..

  • u can make t if u feel like it...

i made that and sulfuric acid pretty easily

  • is it equal to HCl + H2O ?

  • @handbreak3

nope its kind of beter because if you add alot of aluminium and sodium hydroxide it can last 15 minutes or more HCl+Al just last 30 secondes or so

  • NaOH + H2O?

I'm pretty sure it equals NaOH+ HCl, but does HCL + H2O does any exothermal reaction? I don't know :p

  • 2Al(s) + 2NaOH(s) + 2[H2O](l) -> 2NaAlO2(aq) + 3H2(g)

Its not "burning" the aluminum foil. Its forming sodium aluminum oxide and hydrogen gas, which is the bubbles you see.

  • 2Al +2NaOH+6H2O -> 2Na[Al(OH)4] +3H2

    just to get it right.

  • Got my formula from a chemistry site... I've never seen 2Na[Al(OH)4] before

  • Whats the name of the site?

Look it up Its called Bayer process and its used to refine bauxite to produce alumina.I´m pretty sure about what I stated below....second semester i guess. Jander Blasius: Einführung in das anorganisch -chemische Praktikum (literature)->in english:adoption into the inorganic chemical internship isbn 3-7776-1364-9

  • cant remember what it was, but i believe you :D. Looked it up, just havent seen the Sodium Aluminum Hydroxide before (not really sure how to name that)

  • Sodium tetrahydroxoaluminate....well well the confusing world of chemistry...I´m off goodnight omg I`m drunk as fuck cheers m8.

  • i saw this in CSI Miami a guy jumped in a pool with NaOH, it wasnt pretty :)

  • Small asian boy never wore goggles. NOW HE DOESN'T HAVE TO

  • what is the salt thing?

  • the salt thing is NaOH

  • how come it didn't melt the plastic bowl???

  • plastic doesn't react with either NaOH or hydrogen. It's the sodium hydroxide that reacts with aluminum, and the resulting gas emitted, is hydrogen. the water was used to dissolve the concentrated sodium hydroxide.

  • is that the same chemical used in the movie fight club?

  • Possibly. In the movie they say "lye" which used to refer to a few different alkalis you get from ash. Lately though it usually means sodium hydroxide. And since they were making soap, it probably was NaOH.

  • isn't it just dissolving?

  • If you mix Cupric Chloride and aluminum foil, mash it together for about a minute, and then let it rest for another minute or so, then take it and put a little water in it and it should incinerate.

  • cool does it completely melt

  • Is there any video where NaOH burns skin? :P

  • NaOH, or sodium hydroxide, doesn't "burn" your skin. It will agitate it, and perhaps cause a rash, but i've come in personal contact with it and had no ill effects.

  • it may not "burn" your skin but it still is corrosive and i wouldnt take any chances on putting NaOH on my skin. the solid itself isnt corrosive but when mixed with water, turning NaOH into a liquid can be potentially dangerous

  • well of course the liquid is different, but the solid itself is not very corrosive. it is not wise to put sodium hydroxide on your skin, but nonetheless it still wont "burn" skin as the comment by jojeli1 states.

  • Actually sodium hydroxide is very hygroscopic. Too long on the skin and it will pull enough moisture out of your skin and the air to become start burning you. And yes, i used the word "burn", that is how you describe "chemical burns".

  • @lonepirhana357 Errr NaOH DISSOLVES fats by a reaction called saponification. It will turn the outer membrane of your cells into alcohol and a carboxylic acid. So yes, NaOH DOES cause chemical burns.

  • that was cool
