@siobhan104 Its nice to see how you all appriciate this film despite it being made in 2008, and that I've improved since. Its amazing how things have changed with Tangmere since.
Great video bringing back memories for me of holidays at aunties in Teignmouth in the late 50s and early 60s. The highlight, of course, was going to Dawlish and seeing the steam engines roaring along the sea wall. Now living in Australia I glad that people like you are putting up such excellent videos to jog the memory.
Super stuff! I used to live just a block away from New Milton station in the sixties, and the distant 'wail' of a Bulleid Pacific heading for Weymouth used to give me goose pimples late at night! :o)
I must have watched this video at least 40-50 times and it is a quite superb film of one of Mr Bullieds finest pieces of enginering. He would be smiling now if he could see it !
Hey Ryan, great video of sustained high speed running shots. The unrebuilt Bullieds are fine looking locos - and considering she is only a 'light' pacific she really motors along. Beautiful countryside too!!
wow that is a superb video! Wish tangmere was doin tobay express this year. Im going to Dawlish tomorrow for Tornado and then to exeter way for Tangmere. Any good spots in Dawlish area? i been there before but its prob gonna be really busy
There alot of spots to go to along the Dawlish sea wall, however because Tornado is comming that way there will be a heck of people around to see her,so my advice is to film on spots that are in this film i.e. on the bridge at Dawlish near the tunnel, at Sprey Point were I got Tangmere being battered by the sea or were I got 70013 in mid June.
Very good filming. Interesting to note that even with smoke deflectors the Spam Can does not throw the smoke nearly as high as a GW engine, none of which ever sported smoke deflectors. I wonder how much trouble the Bulleid valve gear is to maintain. The oil bath used to be quite troublesome.
Thanks from down under Adelaide for a great video and well thought out information of where it all took place . The Dawlish Warren sign board was a great touch. What speed roughly was the old lady doing at this stage?
Thank you very much. Glad to see how my films attract viewers in many parts of the world. At Dawlish Warren I'd say she was doing about 70mph more or less.
Oh thats Tangmeres support coach. When the Torbay Expresses takes place the locos support coach is often at the rear, so that when the loco gets turned at Chursten the loco will couple on to its support coach when it gets back to Kingswear.
I admire Tangmere not only 'cause its a Southern unrebuilt pacific but 'cause of its performance so I see where your comming from. Indeed a fine steam engine with a few unique techniques of running well.
Hey Ryan and team - superb!!!! Great camera work and you have gone beyond just filming steam to creating a fantastic atmospheric piece in its own right.
I'm really glad I've found these steam videos on YouTube - let's me enjoy from the other side of the world. Just 'something' about those steam engines!
Looking forward to what you guys might do for the FIRST Torbay express of next year. Spring. New beginning!!
Exceptional filming. Some of the very best I've seen. Well done.

I love the shot at 2.30 with the sea, and they really were great locomtoves,
Brunel would approve.

That sea wall shot with sunny weather and the waves crashing is probally the rarest you'l get with mainline steam.
You don't get that up in the north thats a fact!

A fine series of clips to bring down the curtain on another successful season. Here's to next year or maybe the bonus of four Yuletide Torbays.
