you're right about Dimebag Darrell being approached before Petrucci, but not exactly right about the keyboard situation for LTE...previous DT keyboard player, Derek Sherinian, was not a candidate for LTE, Portnoy initially wanted to keep the project separate from DT...Rudess had previously been offered but turned down the role as DT keyboardist to replace Kevin Moore, hence Sherinian...Portnoy and Petrucci used LTE as a way to recruit Rudess again to join DT
