I'm trying to decide if I should buy this optic or a Aimpoint T1. I shoot 3 gun matches and etc but it's not like I'm in the dustbowl or anything so I'm trying to decide if it's worth the cost difference or if I should save the money on the optic and just buy lots of ammo.
What would the advantage of the arc be over the strikeforce? I'm guessing size? One thing i can think of is the lens covers, seems the strikeforce would be more weather proof?
I was interested in an ACR, and I remember the manufacturer saying that they would only cost $1500 or maybe less, but when I recently looked it up, I discovered that those Bushmaster ACR's are ridiculously expensive. The SRP is like $2600-$3100, and the lowest retail price is $2000-$2500!!!
Whats worse is that there have been issues, and although they will be eventually ironed out, I just cannot see dumping 2k on an early model, when the later models will be better and probably much cheaper!
great review quality presentation was very helpful to the point and not full of a lot of 'BS' many others cant seem to avoid putting in their review's thanks again looking forward to future reviews.
Sparc or Strikefire? I like the 2MOA dot on the sparc but like the 30mm tube of the strike fire. just looking for an optic for a plinker gun, but it will also be used for night time pest control around the house.

Hey man, AWESOME videos. I picked up the SPARC from 3RP after watching this video and hope it serves me well in place of the higher priced aimpoint or eotech options I was looking at. I plan on making my own video review but I will not be dropping my AR hahaha. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic Review! How do you feel about the quality of the sight mount? I also see that vortex makes a swing out type magnifier for this sight. Have you tried using that?
@ELITEHAMSTER123 6-hour auto-shutdown feature maximizes battery life. Typical battery life in normal mode of operation: 120 hours (maximum brightness), 3400 hours (minimum brightness). Typical battery life in night vision mode: 4200 hours (maximum brightness), 4600 hours (minimum brightness).
@thedrod im only skeptical, because I recently bough a sig mini dot that has *gasp* 8,000 hours of battery life... but thats on minimum, which setting is so dim that it mind as well be turned off, even in total darkness.
The wires on the windage/elevation, break off almost IMMEDIATELY!Which is no big deal , IF you keep an eye on them and constantly make sure they're tight.The rubber lense covers breaks PDQ too.I called and they sent me one, but you can't call when the SHTF, so plan ahead & either buy another brand or make one.I bought two of them, I could bought one Aimpoint for the same price as two of these, only time will tell, but it's slowly falling apart.Anyone want to buy them...CHEAP?!
I have been telling people about the red dots from Vortex...I loved my Strikefire for years until I could get my EoTech....Now Im wanting my strikefire back..LOL.....very good video, Im looking at getting the Sparc for my second M4
OpticsPlanet had a coupon code for $30 bucks off a few weeks ago. Anyone know if it still works or if there are any other discount codes available? Thanks
BTW the discount still works, I tried the MACSPARC code and it works yet the MAC code does not. Still, 179 bucks delivered is the cheapest I have ever seen for these red dots and when I get some cash I will buy one for testing as well. I owned a eotech 512 and a aimpoint compm2 so I have high expectations for this sight.
You showed that it came with it's own 2x magnifier but I was wondering if you got a hold of and tested the vortex tactical magnifier with the flip mount with the vortec sparc.
@Azcodito The front sight will be pretty much centered in the field of view, by design. It's called "cowitnessing" and it is done so your iron sights can be used as a backup should your red dot sight fail.
I only wanted to ask if the red coated front lens of your SPARC has a little angle or if it sits complete straight in the aluminium tube? My front lens sits a little bit inclined in the tube and i wanted to know if this is normal?
I didn't seem to have very good groups at 50 yards with mine. It was probably just me, but since the red dot basically covered the target, I lost a decent deal of precision there... I may go out to an outdoor range and see if I can do any better with it... and with a larger target.
I don't understand why they don't do something with the design of the on/off button. That is the only thing that I HATED about my StrikeFire. It seems like everytime I went to use it, the batteries were dead from the optic coming on in the case.
Almost all of my sights are a bit "fuzzy" around the edges including my Comp M2's and even my EOTechs. It depends on the setting I'm using. If it's too bright, I see fuzzy edges. If it's set to the appropriate brightness for the surrounding environment, they all look fairly crisp, including my Vortex sights.
Were you able to shoot parallax-free with it? That's a real bid deal for me. With either eyes closed my vision is not as good as average, but with both eyes open I've been tested to be better than 20/20. So I need a holographic sight that will let me shoot with both eyes open.
You can shoot it with both eyes open, it's not designed to be used with one eye closed. See my more recent video on the Vortex StrikeFire, I demonstrate how the optic works and how the point shift can occur.
Hi, Thanks for the great review on this Vortex Sparc! I just bought an AK-47 and was looking to purchase this optic for it. I'm torn between this optic (Vortex Sparc) and the Vortex Strike Fire! I saw someone else do a review of this optic on the Military Arms Channel. Which one do you recommend out of these two for the AK47?
I am about to post a new review of the StrikeFire. It really depends on what type of mount you want to use. The new RS Products AKM mount with a StrikeFire is a GREAT solution. See the pics of it on our Facebook page. The SPARC is great for the Midwest Industries rail system. Either one works well. If you don't need a rail, consider the AKM mount and StrikeFire.
Glad you could take advantage of the discount. We'll be running a similar discount on the StrikeFire using the promotion code MACSTRIKE at 3 Rivers Precision. Stay tuned for the new StrikeFire review coming tomorrow!
Yes, I've tested it in the snow and it works perfectly. It's plenty bright enough for every situation I've found myself in including pointing it skyward on a bright sunny day at a cloud. You can still easily see the dot.
Got mine a week ago.Its mounted on my Smith & Wesson M&P AR 15 with Mag Pul sights on the high rise mount i get a full co witness.Took 6 shoots to zero and maintains it but around 50 rds. or so it did turn off on me!Nice to knw it has a lifetime warranty..
Yup, it's holding up great. I have it on a Draco SBR now and it's working just like it should. I also picked up a Vortex StrikeFire that I will be reviewing shortly.
Looking forward to the StrikeFire review. I spent quite a bit of time in the Vortex booth at this weekend's NRA convention and liked the StrikeFire. The soon-to-be released Viper HS 1-4x24mm scope also looked promising.
I have been running the SPARC for over a year now and for the money it can't be beat. I actually run one mounted on my TC Encore 12 gauge barrel for turkey hunting. Even with the punishment of a 12 gauge turkey load it will still hold zero.
Quick question: Does the illumination control unit on the left side of the sight block much of your forward or peripheral view from either eye? Does it obscure too much for an effective two eyes open shooting style?
For me, rotating the rifle is about twice as fast as using an ACOG w/ Doctor optic. Plus I run a 4X acog, the eye relief isn't as good as the 3.5x ones so going back to ACOG is faster when you have the same cheek weld vs lifting your cheek. I can snap my wrist a lot faster than lifting my head. Google the LT-724 review from firingline. Should be the 2nd search result.
Had a chance to do anymore torture testing yet? I have two Aimpoints, but like you am looking for something that won't break the bank. Great reviews by the way, I particularly appreciate your non-use of the word "dudes".
It co-witnesses perfectly with my Magpul BUS's. I can't speak to others though. My assumption would be that it will work fine with most popular brands of BUS's.
Optics Planet is still showing them at $199 and 3 Rivers Precision is still selling them below that. So if they raised the MSRP it hasn't been reflected in pricing by vendors.
The day your review posted they were listed on the Vortex website at $199. Yesterday I decided to take another look at it and to my surprise they had raised the MSRP to $289. I did find a bunch at different retailers for the $199 price and a few at the $289 mark. I suggest people that are interested pick it up before they all jump up.

What is the battary life on it?? And what about the paralax? Does the dot move around when you do? Does the dot move when your head does or does it stay on target weather your head is straight on or not?
Also can it co witness to your BUIS?
thats AIMPoints big + and half the reaon they cost so much.
The manufacturer says 3400 hours on the lowest setting. Since few people probably use the lowest setting, it's anyones guess. I'll know more when I burn through one. They claim the POI can shift from 0-50 yards up to 1" and no POI shift past 50 yards. I've not noticed this. It co-witnesses with the MBUS but as for others, I would have to test them all and I don't have anything but the Magpuls. I suspect most will if they are a standard AR15 hight.
@Sturmgewehre Do a google for "vortex sparc review AR15" and check out the forum post on ar15 (dot) com (should be top result), I think you will enjoy it. He dunks the thing in water for 6 hours then freezes the hell out of it in a snowbank, then the freezer overnight and it still works! I laughed, he must have taken the lifetime warranty to heart.
Yes, you'll just need to use a rail system to mount it. You can use an Ultimak, Midwest Industries or a Texas Weapon Systems rail. I'm a big fan of the Midwest Industries system, but the recently released Texas Weapon Systems rail is pretty high on my "like" scale right now too.
@Sturmgewehre What are your thoughts on the KV 04s side mount for the AKs? I seen you do the reviews on mostly scout type rail systems for the AK, maybe you can throw some reviews on side rail mounts.
I'm not a big fan of the side rail 1913 mounts because they either sit too high or are off-set. There is a new product coming out I hope to get my hands on that looks very promising that I will review that remedies this and is a rail mount. I should have one here in the next few week (I hope). But until then, I prefer either the Midwest Ind. rail, TWS rail or Ultimak rail.
In your opinion, is the sparc too small / narrow to be useful when mounted on an ultimak gas block rail of an ak? I'd like to setup a system, but I am thinking its just too small for that...
Actually, I think it's the ideal size and weight for use on the Ultimak. The only thing you might have to worry about with the Ultimak is heat build up. I know it can cause problems for EOTechs, but I've not had problems with Aimpoints or Trijicon sights. I'll test the SPARC on the Ultimak this summer and see how it holds up. I suspect it will do fine.
A great review. Have you ever tried a Bushnell TRS-25? Wonder how they compare... The Bushnell unit has a price about 1/2 of this one and I have seen them for as little as $49 online. This SPARC sight is definitely something I will need to pick up and try out.
It should hold up just fine. It depends on what you want to do with the SCAR. If you want to shoot small groups at 100 yards, you'll probably want something with magnification. If not, the SPARC should do just fine.
@Kylef7735 I'm going for the cheaper optic because I spent that much on a rifle. I wanted something cheap to start out with b/c it'll be a couple years before I can spend $1,000+ on the setup I really want.
I like that there's a wealth of information here in a short amount of time. It feels like I'm watching a 40-minute video in 12 minutes. I am interested in this optic, as a direct competitor to the Burris red dot which is what I'm looking at with the Midwest Industries forend.
Dude....one of the AR-15.com'er's did a serious abuse testing and then it shows as a damn strong unit, and on par with ALOT more expensive units.
Went to 3riversprecision and the code ISNT a lie or a ruse, it did give free shipping and a nice total price BIG THUMBS up for that.
damn good unit...I'd buy one if I was needing another mini red dot and will keep it in mind for future products, thanks for the great video Dude..truly appreciated when you do the research.
The Sig 556 is "ok" in my view. Nothing exceptional and I personally wouldn't rely on one as my only "go to" rifle. They've had some quality issues with them over the years. I do have a Sig 556R on order so I'll review it when it arrives. As for a SGL31 or piston AR, I personally would go with the SGL. I'm not a fan of the piston AR's. But that's a personal issue, you may prefer the ergonomics of the AR over the AK.
Unfortunately, no. It *might* pull off a 1/3 co-witness on some rifles but it would be a fluke. The collimator is at the 6 o'clock position which means it will obscure the sights on most rifles with either the Midwest Industries rail or the Ultimak rail. Heat might be an issue with the Ultimak, and I plan on testing this and will post a video.
I notice you shoot with a shemagh, I do as well. How are you liking it?
Also, where is the emitter mounted on the inside of the SPARC, 6 oclock? I'm considering one of these on an ultimak gas tube, so if it's at the 6 then it won't co-witness.
It keeps my neck warm when it's cold outside, so I like it. :)
The emitter is at teh 6 o'clock position. It does not co-witness with the Midwest Industries rail so I'm assuming it probably doesn't co-witness with the Ultimak either.
This optic isn't a contender for military contracts. 99.99% of the people looking at buying a sight such as this will likely never take it, or the rife they mount it to, into combat. For a civilian rifle being used for range work, training classes, self defense, etc. it's built plenty strong enough from what I've seen.
@Sturmgewehre I'm different than most people, when I buy something I buy a product I might have to use to defend my life, I've always been like this. I didn't buy an eotech because I didn't want to have my batteries die or have to carry around boxes of batteries. Many guys will buy a gun to place on the wall but not me, I even fire my 1938 PPK my Grand Father brought back from WW2. I love rugged, I will tell my friend though about this optic, right up his alley.
On my "go to rifle" I have an Aimpoint Comp M2. I have had it for years and I I trust it. I have a lot of guns in my collection, and I don't really want to buy a $500+ optic for every rifle I own. As such, I look for quality optics that cost less for range work. Others do the same. Some folks don't feel they need military grade equipment or don't have the financial resources to pay for it. The SPARC fills this void for them. Quality for a good price.
@Sturmgewehre When I needed a laptop I bought a Panasonic Toughbook that tells you how I am, I just love roughed stuff. I don't buy many guns but when I do I get one that is military grade and a scope or red dot I always go big. I don't end up have many guns because of price but I do get good quality, my ACOG was $925 and I used it for 2 years then sold it for $825. I bought a comp M2 for $385 then 8 years later sold it for the same price, quality resale value. My mirco was $299 at midway.
Yup, I'm a Mopar guy. My "baby" (car) can be found on the Military Arms facebook page in the photos section. I get questions about the cap and car, so I posted some pics. Just go to facebook.com/militaryarms.
Great review! I have one that originally purchased to use on an AK/Utlimak set up, but it doesn't co-witness. So I now use it on an AR. I have an original Strikefire from Vortex that I have had no problems with. Don't forget that Vortex offers an unconditional lifetime warranty.
Great review man .. I have a SPARC on my TAR21 and i love it !! its the best deal out there for a red dot, also some of the branches of Russian Spetsnaz are using them .

Just ordered mine from Brian @ 3 Rivers Precision. The "MACSPARC" discount was great. I'm looking forward to mounting it on my Arsenal 106.

Good to hear. Let us know how you like it. I've moved mine over to my Draco SBR and love it.
Sturmgewehre 10 months ago
Hey Sturmgewehre, do you know is the SPARC will co-witness with an Ultimak?
oldannyboy37 10 months ago
@oldannyboy37
I don't believe it will. I have it mounted to my Draco with a Midwest Industries rail (even lower than the Ultimak) and I can't co-witness.
Sturmgewehre 10 months ago
@Sturmgewehre Once again, thank you very much!
oldannyboy37 10 months ago
Excellent review, thank you!
Quick question: Does the illumination control unit on the left side of the sight block much of your forward or peripheral view from either eye? Does it obscure too much for an effective two eyes open shooting style?
heck100 10 months ago
@heck100
It doesn't get in the way, the sight is designed to be used with both eyes open.

Excellent review. I loved it when you pitched the mounted SPARC on the deck. Showed high confidence in the sight.

Anyone know if this works with an ACOG and Larue's LT-724 offset mount? Im thinking the interface/buttons on the left will block the ACOG
V8toytruck 11 months ago
@V8toytruck You really want to run two sights on your rifle...
Kylef7735 10 months ago
@Kylef7735
Yes, long range and short range optic available just by rotating the gun 1'' counter clockwise.
V8toytruck 10 months ago
@V8toytruck Why would you do that instead of getting a Doctor optic to put on your Acog, or one of the RMRs?
That is the only time i would ever run multiple sights, that setup.
Kylef7735 10 months ago
@Kylef7735
V8toytruck 10 months ago
Had a chance to do anymore torture testing yet? I have two Aimpoints, but like you am looking for something that won't break the bank. Great reviews by the way, I particularly appreciate your non-use of the word "dudes".

@pinoykillaz
It co-witnesses perfectly with my Magpul BUS's. I can't speak to others though. My assumption would be that it will work fine with most popular brands of BUS's.
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
I find it funny that shortly after your review they raised the MSRP to $289.00
templeofvesarius 11 months ago
@templeofvesarius
Optics Planet is still showing them at $199 and 3 Rivers Precision is still selling them below that. So if they raised the MSRP it hasn't been reflected in pricing by vendors.
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre

Also can it co witness to your BUIS?
thats AIMPoints big + and half the reaon they cost so much.
mrmidnight32 11 months ago
@mrmidnight32

I laughed, he must have taken the lifetime warranty to heart.
patshmear10101 11 months ago
Can you use this on an AK-47? I'm getting that Interarms gun you reviewed.
DEMCAD 11 months ago
@DEMCAD
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre What are your thoughts on the KV 04s side mount for the AKs? I seen you do the reviews on mostly scout type rail systems for the AK, maybe you can throw some reviews on side rail mounts.
crest2598 11 months ago
@crest2598
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
In your opinion, is the sparc too small / narrow to be useful when mounted on an ultimak gas block rail of an ak? I'd like to setup a system, but I am thinking its just too small for that...
urbantacticool 11 months ago
@urbantacticool

Would the Vortex SPARC be a good starting optic for a 308 SCAR 17s?
TwoSixSixx 11 months ago
@TwoSixSixx
It should hold up just fine. It depends on what you want to do with the SCAR. If you want to shoot small groups at 100 yards, you'll probably want something with magnification. If not, the SPARC should do just fine.
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@TwoSixSixx Dude, youre going to spend that much on a rifle then go for a cheaper optic?
Why?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
Kylef7735 11 months ago
@Kylef7735 I'm going for the cheaper optic because I spent that much on a rifle. I wanted something cheap to start out with b/c it'll be a couple years before I can spend $1,000+ on the setup I really want.

I like that there's a wealth of information here in a short amount of time. It feels like I'm watching a 40-minute video in 12 minutes. I am interested in this optic, as a direct competitor to the Burris red dot which is what I'm looking at with the Midwest Industries forend.
DemonHide 11 months ago
Dude....one of the AR-15.com'er's did a serious abuse testing and then it shows as a damn strong unit, and on par with ALOT more expensive units.
Went to 3riversprecision and the code ISNT a lie or a ruse, it did give free shipping and a nice total price BIG THUMBS up for that.
damn good unit...I'd buy one if I was needing another mini red dot and will keep it in mind for future products, thanks for the great video Dude..truly appreciated when you do the research.

sturm, how do you like the sig 556?
I'm deciding on which rifle i want to buy next.
sgl 31 or a piston ar?
what do you think?
troopcom 11 months ago
@troopcom
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre
Will the Vortex SPARC cowitness on an AK like the Aimpoint Micros?
BackpackingVideos 11 months ago
@BackpackingVideos
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
I notice you shoot with a shemagh, I do as well. How are you liking it?
Also, where is the emitter mounted on the inside of the SPARC, 6 oclock? I'm considering one of these on an ultimak gas tube, so if it's at the 6 then it won't co-witness.
SlaughterOtter 11 months ago
@SlaughterOtter
It keeps my neck warm when it's cold outside, so I like it. :)
The emitter is at teh 6 o'clock position. It does not co-witness with the Midwest Industries rail so I'm assuming it probably doesn't co-witness with the Ultimak either.
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre
Bawls. Well I guess that means I'll just have to get the H-1 Micro, like I should've done in the first place.

What about parallax? Does the dot stay on target when you move your head around or do you have to keep the dot in the center?
miGsKills 11 months ago
@miGsKills
Yes, it's parallax free. Most quality RDS's are these days, and this one is of very good quality.
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre
Good to know. This little RDS is a contender.
miGsKills 11 months ago
I bet if you dropped it the red dot will stop working compared to an aimpoint that is 1 million strong now in the US military.
semiautoriflelover 11 months ago
@semiautoriflelover
Yeah, I'm pretty sure if you drop it the sight will stop working or lose zero.
You didn't watch the video, did you? :)
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre I meant if you dropped it like in real combat on a rock like the fighting men do with aimponts. That dirt is softer than a pillow.
semiautoriflelover 11 months ago
@semiautoriflelover
This optic isn't a contender for military contracts. 99.99% of the people looking at buying a sight such as this will likely never take it, or the rife they mount it to, into combat. For a civilian rifle being used for range work, training classes, self defense, etc. it's built plenty strong enough from what I've seen.
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre I'm different than most people, when I buy something I buy a product I might have to use to defend my life, I've always been like this. I didn't buy an eotech because I didn't want to have my batteries die or have to carry around boxes of batteries. Many guys will buy a gun to place on the wall but not me, I even fire my 1938 PPK my Grand Father brought back from WW2. I love rugged, I will tell my friend though about this optic, right up his alley.
semiautoriflelover 11 months ago
@semiautoriflelover
Sturmgewehre 11 months ago
@Sturmgewehre When I needed a laptop I bought a Panasonic Toughbook that tells you how I am, I just love roughed stuff. I don't buy many guns but when I do I get one that is military grade and a scope or red dot I always go big. I don't end up have many guns because of price but I do get good quality, my ACOG was $925 and I used it for 2 years then sold it for $825. I bought a comp M2 for $385 then 8 years later sold it for the same price, quality resale value. My mirco was $299 at midway.
