  • it is sad that it will never happn again

  • Wow, Telly with a tuba! ^_^

  • haha this is awsome

  • I saw him in concert a few years ago. He was simply amazing!

  • Im all teared up right now. seriously. genius.

  • A remember back in the day when I watched this. I wish I could've appreciated it as much as I can now.

  • danng telly lol

  • OMG Itzhak perlman comes no where close to Telly's skill. lol!

  • Hahaha! I love how Itzhak Perlman is accompanying Telly! Who is accompanying whom? hahaha! Awesome!

  • to intheknow7: In my opinion Michael Rabin was on the same level as the violinist's you mentioned, as well as Pinchas Zukermen

  • Theres only one violin!

  • Its called double stops. No second violin needed.

And he HAD polio, he no longer does.

  • Haha! Where's the second violin coming from??

  • Mr. Perlman is playing double stops (playing two notes at once) - this is a common string technique. So there is no second violin. Listen to the Chaconne by Bach for solo violin and you will hear 2, 3, or 4 note chords played by a single player. Remarkable isn't it?

  • hes playing it

  • there isnt any second violin :o its all from perlman's violing

  • ROFL...there's no 2nd violin, itzhak played it all...with double-stop notes.

  • There's no second violin..

  • double stops! haha.

  • Perlman- he's playing two strings at once. It's called 'double stopping'.

  • there's not a second violin, but Itzhak is playing two chords at the same time ;)

  • Double stops, mate. He's playing both parts on separate strings.

  • Perlman is playing that himself on a second string

  • There is no second violin, the strings in a violin are arranged in an arc shape, so that depending on the position of the bow, the string can be played by them selves or in pairs being able to play more than one voice or sound at the same time, giving the impression of two violins being played.

  • No second violin - double stops are the secret behind this sound ;-)

  • he's playing double-stops ¬¬

  • ya is pretty epic

  • They are called double stops. There is no second violinist.

The violinist plays harmony with themselves. Quite a skill.

  • hahaha! second violin daw oh!

  • woah telly sounds SOOOOO different!

  • nice played

  • he didn't break a leg, he doesn't HAVE any legs.

  • Telly is doing a Milli Vanilli!

  • Fellow UTubers: Can u recommend other violinists on the level of Heifetz, Milstein, Issac Stern or Yitzchak Perlman? Trying to broaden my tastes - easy to get locked into favs.

    Tx in advance.

  • David Oistrakh, Yehudi Menuhin...

  • A very good violinist is (was) Leonid Kogan. He is dead now, but there are several videos on youtube.

You can also listen to the Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos. He is outstanding and, even better, still alive (born in 1967). I heard him live a few years back, and really enjoyed it.

good luck in your search :-)

  • to in the know: have you heard leonid kogan play he is a master lol

  • Maxim vengerov.

  • i dont get how he says it will never happen again lol

  • love this!

  • I LOVE Itzhak Perlman!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's coming to Pittsburgh Sept. 9 and I'm going to see him!!!!!

  • actually he developed polio when he was young, and he is an amazing violinist, he rly gets under ur skin in a good way when he makes his violin sing at many moments

  • He is insanely cool!!!!!! When did he start teaching at Julliard?

  • omg, im jealous of a puppet o.o

  • What is the name of this song?.

    It´s de beethoven

    but

    what song?.

  • is telly fingering the right notes, can any tuba players verify?

  • I also wanna play with perlman!!!

  • This is cute! xD

  • BUT IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!

  • SURE IT WAS GOOD !!!...Thank you guys!

  • SURE IT WAS VERY GOOD...lol...Just love it !

  • so cool!

  • Damn, must have been a great honor to play with Perlman.... Lucky Telly.... lol

  • como se llama esta pieza alguien ilumineme por favor

  • es un minuet de beethoven en sol mayor

sin embargo no se cual sea

  • TheBlizzack Read the damm heading! The guy has a name!

  • I like this Sesame Street clip a lot. However, Telly's punchline at the end was just very awkward.

  • I didn't know Perlman had to use crutches for a time.

  • He has Polio. I don't think they had Polio Vaccines back then, or he did not have access to them.

  • For a time? The man was stricken with polio. I've never seen him without crutches.

  • He actually uses them or a scooter most of the time to this day, he had polio as a child.

  • well as far as I've seen on youtube he use crotches all the time because of his suffering from polio as a child.

  • For the time of his entire life. Polyomelithic since age 5 or so.

  • yea he had polio

  • dude, he had polio

  • He had polio as a child, he must use them.

  • Yeah cause he got polio as a kid. Thats why he sits when he plays violin

  • he uses them all the time

  • ever since his polio

  • I made the assumption he must had broken a leg... That it matters though he is an excellent violinist

  • he had polio, and he isnt excellent it would be more propper to say he is a genius a completely outstanding musical personality and virtuoso

  • He has polio so he cant walk on his own

  • He contracted polio as a child and has been paralyzed for most of his life.

  • he had polio as a kid but recovered

  • Itzak Perlman has polio. That's why he walks with crutches.

  • ah lol funny!

  • WTF was that weird thing the guy with the glasses was playing???? it looked like a small cello.

  • You're joking right?

  • I think the 4 thumbs down by this comment made me laugh even more than the comment itself.

  • VIOLIN DUDE!

  • its called a violin dumbass. and the guy with the glasses happens to be Ithzak Perlman, thought to be the greatest living violinist.

  • You're joking right??

    That would be a VIOLIN.

  • a violin

  • . . . epic fail, its called a violin, and the dude with the glasses is Itzhak Perlman. . . . . wow just lost 20 brain cells from that comment

  • a violin

  • Lol, epic fail. It's a violin. Where have you been, guy?

  • hahahahahahaha!

  • totally brilliant music... muppet or not...

hello people, do you FEEL?... yay...

  • i was wondering the same thing

  • ha ha ha i just wanted to point out that the muppet is making out with the tuba. and wtf is with the end???? weird........

  • woah i remember dis piece was in suzuki book 2

  • i know nothing of tuba- are the fingerings correct?

  • Can't actually ever be sure of that to be honest. With horn instruments like the trumpet a skilled musician can play melodies with out using the fingers. Also a tuba has 1 or more valves(depends on make and size and by valve i mean there is a part o the instrument where the tube can be pulled in and out to make a not lower/deeper(lil bit lil a trumbone)) that the tuba player can use to tune the instrument of play notes very quickly that would be hard to in combonation with the the rotary valves.

  • Not at all.

  • damn how did the muppet play tuba??? like to make an embouchure with that mouth?

  • it's called skill my friend...

  • wtf is with that end?

  • minuet in g by lvb.

  • Now THIS is what I call music. Man, I really miss the old days (and of course Sesame Street). ^^

  • Everything is the fun part when Perlman plays it!

  • the ending was such a downer!!

they're both so sad. and then it ends

  • Haha! That was funny. I like when Perlman is like "WHAT HAPPENED"

  • WTF?

  • Is there another violinist in the room? How can Itzhak harmonize himself?

  • He is playing 2 strings at once.

  • he's harmonizing with himself because he is playing double stops (two strings sounding at the same time).

  • Dude, Fail.

  • the low part is the fun part.

    Wie recht telly hat!

  • nein der holle Teil ist besser

  • the low part is the fun part...

    Wie recht er hat!

  • What a master

  • Well, that went from awesome to creepy.

  • I dig Telly's bow tie and collar. Gotta love a monster with fashion sense

  • totally loved it!!! :D♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I admire SO MUCH Mr. Perlman :))♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • good old times.....

  • Was this the very first time we got to see Telly playing the tuba?

  • Why did he say "It'll never happen again"?

  • This is just a wild guess, but I think Telly thought it would "never happen again" because like lightning striking, live music doesn't sound the same way twice.

  • Family Legend says that I expressed the desire to play the violin (I switched to viola when I was eight) because of seeing Itzhak on Sesame Street. It wasn't this bit, because it is from a year after I started playing, but I love this video, and am placing it on my favorites. Thanks to the person who posted it!

  • A virtuoso performance by a renowned concert violinist and a pink monster. Quite the duet.

  • it's not really Telly playing, was it?

it was good pupetting with all the fingerings and stuff

  • No it wasn't. Around 1:21 he uses 2 fingerings for the same note.

  • Yah, how does he do that? The low note alternates between opposite outer keys as well. What talent!!

  • Muy lindo !!! Gracias ,desde argentina .

  • i played this song before and im past it.

  • Wow. You must be even better than this guy.

  • The first time I ever saw Ithzak Perlman was on Sesame Street, playing Partita for Solo Violin. It's the melody used for the video, "You Can Clean Almost Anything," you know, the one that was cut from the Old School video?

  • INCREIBLE

  • LOL that was great I loved that perlam's face at the end

  • I remember this guy playing the violin on Sesame Street to the tune of that vocal that was played on the "everything gets cleaned" segment that was deleted from the DVD of the first episode. Does anyone else remember seeing that? I don't know the official name of that piece.

  • Wait-why will it never happen again?

  • For those who are wondering, since Brian Muehl stepped down, Telly has been performed by Martin P. Robinson, who is also the voice of Snuffy, who was originally voiced by Jerry Nelson, then briefly by Richard Hunt or so I'm told. It's explained that the Snuffy costume hurt Nelson's back so much that he had to give up the role to another muppeteer.

  • When it sounds like two violin, it's actually one. It's call the double stopping (I believe) and it allows Perlman to play two notes at the same time, or even three.

  • simplemente el mejor violinista de todos los tiempos.

  • perlman is good but telly stole the show

    ;p

  • omg its like he's playing two violins at the same time...he;s awesome!! ^.^

  • there actually is 2 violins, but only for 2 measures.

  • It's called doublestopping...

  • No, It's only one. You heard Mr. Perlman playing double stops. Playing two or more stings at a time.

  • Perlman has a nice, gentle voice. Anyone ever see "Fantasia 2000"? He introduces one of the pieces beautifully.

  • it's humoresque!

  • No it's not. :)

  • lol this might be humorous, but it sure is not Humoresque ;)

the one by dvorak I mean...

  • This piece is the Minuet in G by L. van Beethoben, its a fun one ;)

  • he is still alive look him up on the internet. I PROMISE HE'S NOT DEAD!!!

  • This video is what started the haygoods. Look them up in the search box. They are amazing!!! Perlman is amazing. He has inspired me so much on playing the violin.

  • I'm a fan of Perlman! amazing musician...amazing person!

  • omg! I SWEAR TO GOD I REMEBER SEEING THIS ON TV!!!

  • i wonder if Perlman has a youtube account...

  • lol

  • hes dead..

  • He's still alive......

  • Actually, no. Good thing he isn't either, there is so much to learn from him.

  • i would like to know too :|

  • What does Telly mean it'll never happen again?

  • Because Perlman has to play with berliner philarmoniker and not in sesame street. LOL

  • Haha. He means that Itzhak Perlman stole the limelight. Perlman was supposed to "accompany" Telly. Turns out Telly's been accompanying him and Perlman seemed to have had the "funner" part instead! Haha, that GORGEOUS double stop passage... Ahhh.... and the ease with which he does it!

  • BenChanViolin. you have a great attitude. thumbs up.

Did you know that you can be a good role model even now? Why wait for "one day" to come? Let "one day" begin today.

Setting a good example for others each day prepares us to stand out as a great example

when only good examples can be found.

  • if you haven't seen Ben's page yet check it out, He's doing the role model thing plenty of justice! It's exciting to see youtube being used the way he uses it

  • This is why I respect Perlman so much- he's a generous person as well as an outstanding violinist. One day, I keep telling myself... one day I hope to be a good role model like him.

  • Hard Person To Follow.

I visited your site; lost in the maze..........

  • I really dont want to sound like a jerk, because Izhak is the best on the eaerth right now from what I have heard, but when he plays at the tip of the bow it gets crooked. And I have learned from so many teacher that is a bad thing. So next time that they tell me that I will say, "If Itzhak can do it it must not be to bad."

  • Perlman is quite fun, not just because he's a person full of humour and love, but also because of his technique, take a look at his indexfinger and pinkyfinger, they hardly touch the bow, and he uses a completely "inapropriate" technique, but still, he's the best! I do as you, takes perlman as an example when my teacher says im unfocused on my technique. haha :D

  • it actually takes great precision and technique to make such full and rich sound on the tip lik that. so i think we all can learn something from his example

  • and an instrument as naturally resonant as his.... but you're certainly right, we can all take something away from seeing great masters of the instrument in action

  • as a general rule for producing a strong and vibrant sound, you should strive to keep your bow "straight" however, there are many fine players who "go crooked" at the tip of the bow, as it is hard on the wrist (for some) to keep it straight (For instance, check out vids of all of the old masters playing and you will see this technique. At the tip, going crooked can actually achieve a smooth bow change.

  • Wow.. that tuba player is awesome!!

  • Haha! Awesome!!

  • OMG :D

  • Gosh! Even on Sesame Street, Perlman never ceases to leave me in awe.

  • lol "the low part, is the fun part" hell yeah it is, that's the main reason y i started taking up the trombone. (although my band director is really kinda anti-fun)

  • Nobody does tuba like Telly!

  • dios....es tremendamente conmovedor...toca maravivllosamente el violin! soy un cellista que admira a perlman!!!

    Really cute....

  • bueno, ya lo vamos a poder hacer, ¿me entendes?

  • Haha, only Perlman is funny enough to play beside a purple tuba monster. Great stuff, thanks very much for sharing this!

  • This is the voice Brian also used for Telly when performing in "Big Bird in China". But why did he used to look so old? He appears to be a perfect senior citizen in this clip, as well as the one where he demonstrates the word "hot".

  • I've heard some nay-sayers regarding Sesame Street, but any program that exposes children to this kind of culture can't be bad

  • too bad the children are just dumbasses anyway, just teach them to shut their mouths instead

  • so I guess that means you were one too

maybe you haven't grown out of that stage yet.

    Oh well....

  • True, but "form" can get out of hand to the point it turns kids off from even practicing.

  • excuse me?! perlman is accompanying telly or the way round? :) cute..!
