My 2002 Mazda Protege 5

My 626 just died and this car popped up in the top 10 under $8,000. Is there an aux jack for an ipod? I noticed the service manual costs like $200 but found the youtube link for $5.

I might get an '02 with 147K for $3500. That should get me by until I can afford something nice, maybe the new Subaru/Toyota/Scion FSR. My 626 lasted until 255K, the auto trans totally died. Time to get a stick shift again!

I always liked this car so i might get it this weekend!

Thinking of one of these for my sister, Im a honda/nissan fan however mazda is my third favorite they naturally have nice cars: Protege 5, Mazda 3, CX5, Mazda 5, etc. I just like the protege alot because its very reliable, simple, elegant, stylish and affordable, whats not to like good old dual airbags, climate controls with knows, and no useless features

@Brendon00000 yea the protege is a nice car. i do like all of them the protege 5 , and the protege great models, others models are the mp3, mazda speed protege. Two other amazing sports cars from the mazda line up. I do think the protege 5 is a wonderful.

Very nice! I see these for sale from time to time, of course not as in good condition. I do like the wagon version better than the sedan version.

@rowsdower12 Thanks, mine has a tad bit of rust but that is okay it can be worked out later on. i like the mp3 and the protege sedan, my friend had a sick protege. but i like wagons.

@aznstylz You're welcome!! While these cars are nice drivers cars, I heard the big gripe was feeling "underpowered." I know they bumped up the power a little for the later models and of course you can get the SpeedProtege but those are rare and I'm sure all of them modified.

I have the same one you have but mine's yellow. Just got it recently to replace my totaled Honda Civic '01. For some reason, the key in my MP5 gets stuck in the ignition and the "main" switch for my Cruise Control doesn't stay on. CC still works if I manually hold it in. Otherwise a great car!

@joejumps4fun hmm thats weird, maybe there is something behind the button that pops it back up. and for the ignition im not to sure. what to say is youre p5 modded?

@aznstylz Nah, it's not modded but I did get the ignition cylinder to function with a bit of WD40. I still need to replace it tho. I love this car!!

02, red. 262k mi on it. going to rebuild the engine in a couple months, so I'm gathering parts for now. The plan is j-spec intake cam, CS exhaust cam, already have a header, undecided on intake, and prob the magnaflow catback.

Is the magnaflow actually that quiet? I'm torn between it and the racing beat. Primarily I don't want raspiness and its hard to tell via cheap mic's and poor placement

@2Lukewarm2 try the ngk zfr5f-11. I have them and they are perfect. only a few dollars each, and I know they will be better! Search the mazda forums for them in proteges to see what people are saying.

hey nice protege 5 i like the exhaust sound, it sounds awesome. i just got my protege 5 a few weeks ago and i've did a full mazdaspeed conversion on it. it consist's of the mazda speed 3 motor, tranny rims, and all the other goodies to it. the car's power on the dyno read about 480horse power and 418 foot pounds of torque with 30psi. now can you say "got boost"

for some reason i get alot of my dog hair, not even in the car just on my clothes thats why i have the seat covers lots of dog hair on them thats all, smoked headlights, or blacked out hosing i do agree my front end of the car looks different now got a new front grill, lip and hid

i have the 323 astina SP20 (australian equivalent) I must say that those horrible orange indicators on the side of the front bumper spoil the look of the car, why did they stick them on there? the oz cars and british 323F doesnt have these
