back when MTV was cool to watch...great live performances and real artists not like most of the manufactured crap they sell on american idol and other kiss ass shows.Bring back the real artists.
@mrbatdance Yeah man .... I agree 110%. Back then we had Real Bands that could play Real Live Music as it should be PLAYED. There is way too much Plastic in the Crap we see on TV, Oh and by the way, it's not only American idol in America, we have a Shit Program called "The X Factor" and all these other Idol Crap programs in Australia & in NZ as well.
Even though the timing is off by ten years, these guys used to sit in the back of my school bus, in the late 1970's. Every school bus had these guys sitting in the back, remember? If only they could have brought their drums, guitars and amps aboard.... that would have been one heck of a rocking International Harvester bus!! LONG LIVE GEORGIA SATELLITES!!
ONE OTHEER THING, THE GEORGIA SATELLITES DEBUT ALBUM REMINDS ME OF MONTROSE'S DEBUT ALBUM IE THE WHOLE ALBUM KICKED ASS (WHICH IS KIND OF RARE) HOWEVER THEIR SOPHOMORE EFFORT 'PAPER MONEY' WAS NO WHERE NEAR THEIR DEBUT,THE SAME WITH THE SATELLITES. AFTER THEIR SECOND ALBUM, DAN BAIRD LEFT TO PURSUE A SOLO CAREER,THUS THE END OF THE SATELLITES. RIP
most important is that in the video you can actually watch the guitarist or vocalist actually play. they don't do the hyperspeed video edits that makes it impossible to enjoy cool-rock-star moves. just my 2cents
As far as the Georgia Satellites are concerned, these guys would just come out on stage and ROCK IT! They do a live gig, and they sound just like their studio recordings! THATS AWESOME!!! Rock and Roll doesn't have to be complicated, these guys took Rock and Roll, threw in Southern fried rock and let it rip!!! We need music like this again! Are you reading this record company executives? Get your heads out of your asses!!!! Bring back ROCK AND ROLL!!!
@willyandthepoorboys, it makes me happy to see that many people agree with me, What the Hell happened to the music industry? I swear record labels look for the most worthless talent and then invest millions shaping them into talentless ass shakers that cannot play instruments or carry a tune even if it had handles on it! I'll take music from the past any day over this dogshit we are force fed everyday. Bring back REAL MUSIC and REAL MUSICIANS!!!
So they were one (actually 3) hit wonders. That's one more hit than you ever had, you fu..ing pus.y. They rocked then and they rock now, so shut the f.ck up and enjoy.
Saw the Satellites play way back in 80s in what was then the most bombed hotel in the world, The Europa Hotel, Belfast. We were a bunch of Firefighters on a night out with wives & girlfriends. Could not believe my eyes when I noticed the bar in the hall was open for business an guess what, there were no fights. Amazin night and even though their music is a bit basic I've been a fan ever since.
@JEDIALADDIN, I hope you are right! If I could tell one thing to young people of today is that, don't discredit music from 30 decades ago or more. If you do your own research, you will find the history of Rock and Roll an amazing ride! To the young folks looking to the past to find musical inspiration, that's the best place to start!! Like Bob Seger once said,' today's music ain't got the same soul"!!!! Enjoy!!!
Georgia Satellite was playing this way before Slash made a sensation...but, bands borrow from other bands for their shows... example- I was doing a fire breathing act on stage long before Kiss were recording stars.
@zachdewall , actually, Slash and G.n'R. were good friends with Satellite's guitarist, Rick Richards. Nobody wasn't copying anybody, 'cause they all are too cool for that.
By the way, after Georgia Satellites had disbanded, Richards played with Izzy Stradlin' a lot.
Cool video! Thanks a lot!! Btw, Rick Price, the bass player, was outta tune... probably wasted since it was a New Year's Eve! ))) Great stuff!
IMFAO!!! So great....still. Me and buds used 2 laugh our asses off to this...still do!! Dan Baird...."always no huggy no kissy until I get a weddin' ring!!" lol 4 u Smitty!!
Look guys I don't want to start any flame war so just take this for what it is worth. "that guy" as you call him is Rick Richards He had that look and was playing his butt off in the South East club scene for years before G&R came around. I was lucky enough to hear this great band long before their first CD & he was doing HIS THING long before Slash.
I will also ad that there are hundreds of guitarist out there with this "look"
@deltapunk21 I guess you don't know who Joe Piscopo is or that the's the dude doin the introduction. No worries. Dump spelled with a "y" is the best comment ever.
take a long hard look folks... this is REAL music by a good ol fashioned rock band!! soon to be lost in the sea of crap they call music today.. god help us all!! :o)
@RockingHardV3 "Appetite for Destruction" was released in July of '87, and this December '87, so yeah, the guy is totally copying Slash. And I like it! :)
@crazyman8472 Moron, these guys are not copping slash. They were out way before Gunz and this video was December 31, 1986 while slash was still sleeping in a Hollywood gutter.
I guess you think the bass player was copping Axel 'cause of his hat. lol
Can anyone tell me why it's impossible to find on youTube the original video clip of this song? There's just a parody with original images and other lyrics.
I watched this on MTV and recorded it on a videotape. They really rocked that night. They blew the roof off of the place on "Railroad Steel" and "Red Light". "Got the Van Halen blaring on the stereo 8 track" Oh yeah! Gotta see if I can find a VCR in a pawnshop so I can watch all my old RocknRoll videotapes I made back then. Nowadays I just download stuff off of YouTube and burn 'em to CD.
Its so funny that you say that because I know a bunch of musicians that want to do that.We think mtv should have to change its name its false advertising

Damn I never got to see these guys in the 80's. They are one of the few 80's bands I would go out of my way to see if they ever were to play in my area.
you should live in switzerland. i've been at a concert of this boys, but sorry without dan baird. but dan baird was two times playing in a little village near where i live. and it rocked so;-))))) even the other day it rocked in head;-)))))))
It's now January 2010 and I just watched new years rockin eve' on ABC and it flat out sucked. They can't even play some whoop-ass rock and roll like back in the 80's 70's 60's and so on. @charger19691 - Boy you said it brrruder! Took the words right off of my fingertips. Didn't realize HOW good things were back in 87' when I was livin it. Took me a second or two to be sure that wasn't Slash making a guest appearence. Dude looks like Slash cloned with a mid-60's British rocker wearing the funny 1800's ballroom clothes.
@charger19691 I agree....today's music IS garbage, but us Rock N Roll GODZ don't need to destroy the Earth yet....it looks like millions of kids today are going back to the 70's or so to pick up our ROCK and make it theirs. I am proud of them.
@charger19691 ..Bang on..now Jan 2011..yet again a year later..and it just makes me sick to hear the garbage on the tube. Toronto New Years Bash-sucked, Niagara Falls=sucked (heck at least last year Loverboys played a few good tunes), and Dick Clarke..hell he outta know better (although he's beyond poor guy), but lets hear some Old Tyme Rock n Roll New Years Eve Bash. Lets Rock it out with Johnny Winter, Brian Setzer, Colin James..hell Tiny Talent Time had better product!
@charger19691 I know that this post is old, but....Once upon a time black artists, r&b and hip hop artists couldn't get air time. MTv only showed white artists in the beginning. This didn't just happen in the music industry, movies, commercials, television, children's toys. All dominated by "white people and culture." The explanation has always been "demographics." Well, apparently the demographics have shifted. Don't get me wrong, I love rock and roll, but r&b and hip hop, too.
I listened to The Calling's version of this song, and was listening to it the other day and my mom started singing along to it! Haha. I was wondering what the heck was going on 'til she told me this was an older song!
god where have ppls manners gone, im not arguing over this with you, you should really learn to be more kind to ppl. by the way the song that i have sounds nothing like the georgia satellites, thank you very much were done here
What did I say that was not kind? I am just saying that Thorogood never performed this song. Please send me to a video or another site that proves this. I've searched and searched, I've been able to find nothing... other than false info.
Limewire??? Exactly what I thought. You have an mp3 on your computer that is mislabeled. It's nuts how many mp3s on those file sharing sites give credit to the wrong artist. Search for a Georgia Satellites mp3 of "keep your hands to yourself". I bet its the exact same recording.
Love playing this tune.
Funny I was born 2 weeks before this concert, ha.

The Georgia Satellites were one of the best live bands I've ever seen.
This is the way to play 12 bar rock.

Saw them in 89 in Norwich UK, supported by Webb Wilder. A great night!

does the bassist even know how sharp he is? lame

I think its the intonation - low register isn't bad, it's when he goes up the neck. Needs a proper guitar tech!!!!

I listened to The Calling's version of this song, and was listening to it the other day and my mom started singing along to it! Haha. I was wondering what the heck was going on 'til she told me this was an older song!

Saw the boys in the eighties at a festival near Zurich (by the way: the show was on Swiss Radio) and since that day I love this song.

ive loved this song since i was 4 but i do think george thorogood does it better
LachoyC 2 years ago
Huh??? George Thorogood never performed this song.
RebelliousHutterite2 2 years ago
yeah he did like a remake of it
LachoyC 2 years ago
No he didn't. You must have downloaded a mislabled mp3 on a file sharing network or something....
RebelliousHutterite2 2 years ago
god where have ppls manners gone, im not arguing over this with you, you should really learn to be more kind to ppl. by the way the song that i have sounds nothing like the georgia satellites, thank you very much were done here
LachoyC 2 years ago
What did I say that was not kind? I am just saying that Thorogood never performed this song. Please send me to a video or another site that proves this. I've searched and searched, I've been able to find nothing... other than false info.
RebelliousHutterite2 2 years ago
i never said it was a video there is life out side of you tube
LachoyC 2 years ago
I didnt say I just searched on youtube. Search anywhere. Send me a link when you find info that Thorogood covered this song.
RebelliousHutterite2 2 years ago
search limewire. for it yourself, i havent got time to deal with you
LachoyC 2 years ago
Limewire??? Exactly what I thought. You have an mp3 on your computer that is mislabeled. It's nuts how many mp3s on those file sharing sites give credit to the wrong artist. Search for a Georgia Satellites mp3 of "keep your hands to yourself". I bet its the exact same recording.
