  • Thanks helped a lot getting ready to take.my driving test CA.

  • Bunch of morons.

  • Can't believe noobs need to learn to do this. If you need a video to describe hand over hands, don't even bother getting ur license. You fail.

  • @GENERAL1002 Listen fag i got my CDL class A and i still did not know this so i decided to look it up..

  • @Kudosive

Ur the kind of idiot I watch out for on the road.

  • My instructors are awesome!

  • @Kobenator There is nothing badass about driving with one hand, unless you consider the higher chance of death cool.

  • If you want to die a slow painful agonizing death use only one hand!

  • @Kobenator One hand steering is for badasses. You only die if you're a noob and not badass enough to master it.

  • How about 9 and 3? the most basic yet ignored rule of steering properly :(

  • You do this in a UK driving test. You Fail. it's total BS :(

  • @crashtubes This is North America, we drive differently, that is why if you come here you must study and take our tests to get a valid American license..

  • @killallianceftw true, I respect that, The UK driving test is far harder than the USA one however.

  • @pambowell Like how?

  • @killallianceftw Well, for starters UK roads are much smaller and harder to navigate, there's no room for error. Roundabouts everywhere and every lane is congested.

Google UK roads or driving test and see for yourself :)

  • Who else hates being bossed around by there instructor and driving slow as hell?

  • Only problem with using this method is that if your airbags deploy, your arms and face are fucked lol.

  • pretty sure my steering wheel doesn't do that

  • Cops in USA learn to shuffle the wheel.

    They learn wrong.

  • you shouldn't drive like that. my driving instructor told me to imagine the air bag going off when you are doing that it would move your arms into your face whereas if your hands are not crossed over they wouldn't get pushed into your face...

  • no this form of steering is dangerous if you have to change direction in say an emergency. the feeding method is safer. I get that now. don't do this people!

  • @FibrousAcquiescence In an emergency I woul'd prefer to use this method to be honest, The sliding method can be too slow and as long as you have 100% grip over the wheel it isn't really a problem (just don't start riding like a gangster barely holding the wheel and turning with the palm of your hand).lol.

  • My wheel does not turn that much

  • if you want to look cool use only one hand!

  • @nevermind89pwnz lol =]

  • @nevermind89pwnz I failed cuz I used 1 hand :(

  • @Sammys09 you didnt look cool enough, did you have sun glasses?

  • @nevermind89pwnz uhg I will next time :(

  • that wheel just did a full 360 :O

  • Although you fail the test for doing this in most countries except the USA, most people do it as a matter of convenience after passing the test.

  • Where I live this is required for the driving license test.....

That's the only moment I did this xD

  • Also illegal to cross hands in Australia

  • @SerbianEagleCCCC - not illegal, but frowned upon by driving instructors and testing officers, and would probably lose you poiints in a driving test.

  • @JBofBrisbane

It's weird because I asked a while ago at the local roads and traffic authority and they said hand over hand can;t be used BUT I recently went for a test and after checking my car the instructor stated "Hand over hand or push pull method can be used"

I used hand over hand and passed (score of 100 out of 103)

So you can 100% use hand over hand in Australia!!

  • I just push my palm into the steering wheel and make a circle :D

  • Crossing arms is for casuals. This is the wrong technique

  • Honestly, I already forgot how to steer like this.

  • push pull is too damn hard...

  • Can't do that here in the UK. Can't cross arms.

  • fuckk off..this is not done in england..

  • this is how i was taught to turn. or id fail!

  • Justin Bieber steering method.

  • @linc0lnsixecho hahah! lol!

  • who the fuck needs an instructional video on how to turn a rat? haha :D.. and his way of doing it is just retarded...

  • Américains fous n'avez pas assez stupide savoir conduire fuckin

  • This is actaully the wrong way to do it. If you do this and get in a crash, your hands and arms will go into your skull and possibly kill you! Use hand to hand feed, not hand over hand. If u get in an accident using hand to hand feed your hands will go off to the side, and not into your skull which is much safer. (i leanred this from driving school and alot of car racers use it)

  • he is not steering, he is explaining how you use the wheel when making a broken u-turn. If you would have been good drivers you would know what he was doing. And since when is it not safe to keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times?

  • one hander with the palm mate xD

  • This is a TERRIBLE way to steer.....

  • kia sucks

  • I didn't realize you needed an instructional video to learn how to TURN A FUCKING STEERING WHEEL. WOW.

  • @PynkWalkr wow sometimes its hard for people just starting out.. It clearly said in the title what the video was about...Why would you watch it?

  • and if you crash, you'll have to have your hand surgically removed from your skull when the airbag goes off.

    Great advice, arsehole

  • @J4YM5 well, then tell that to all the drivers ed teachers. thats how there teaching us.

  • @xfreakyemoness well thats not good

  • Hand over hand is a garbage clumsy technique in many situationist. I only use it for rapid steering. It's horrible in small turns

  • or place your palm on the edge of the wheel and turn only using that. also effective. :)

  • next week - how to walk......

  • illegal in Australia.

  • I can't believe you all are getting your panties in a bunch ... it's a "how to steer" vid. I was looking up for my little sister! In the last 2 pages, peoples' race, ethnicity, country of origin and even sexual orientation have been addressed. I don't usually comment on YouTube but sheesh, get lives ... all y'all!

  • A lot of steering wheels have the bars in the middle indicating where you should be grabbing.

  • Here in Australia, it's now a requirement that we use pull-push steering for everything except slow manoeuvres, like the rules in the UK and Europe. Hand-over-hand isn't considered a safe method any more.

  • Fact is - people in the UK eat things like crumpets and tea. and are generally homosexuals.

  • @Gr4tefuldead fuck you...stupid cunt

  • @Gr4tefuldead Fact is, all Americans go and try save hostages and blow them up with a grenade instead. Leading to the conclusion that ALL Americans are numbnuts

Damn, i almost sound as ignorant and steriotypical as you!

  • @crazy456eyes Now I have no idea what this "Gr4etfuldead" guy said , but wow talking shit about America how typical. Have you ever been to America and if so where? I will admit though that America has "numbnuts" like ALL other countries. I personally think your just jealous of the rich cultured, FREE land that I like to call home, America. DICK.

  • @MrAddmac Many countries are equally free. The USA doesn't have the monopoly oin freedom, though the government likes to portray it that way to its citizens.

  • @MrAddmac Oh my goodness. I think it was quite obvious to most intelligent people that I was being sarcastic. The guy said something like, "Fact is, all British people are homosexuals" or something... So I just commented back to him letting him realize how ridiculous he sounded.

I have been to USA, and it has some nice places. I'm from England and we have the same amount of freedom as you and is also a rich country like yours. So I don't see why I would be jealous of something we already have.

  • @crazy456eyes I was demonstrating to unedcuated cock sucks like him that just because one person does something doesn't mean the whole nation does too.

USA's "special" forces went to save a hostage in Afghanistan who was important, but instead they threw a grenade at her and blew her to pieces. That was pretty stupid to say that is America's "best" that they have.

Like I said, just because one or a few people of one nation do something doesn't mean they all do. Seems like I'm teaching you also

  • @Gr4tefuldead

what a lame brain you must have.

probably all the chemicals in your food and water. sorry x

  • Well, that's stupid.

To turn right, your right arm should hold the steering wheel more on the left, so you won't have to cross arms.

At least, that's what I do, and it's much more confortable than this awful thing he does.

I thought all people "prepare" to turn. Americans don't. Maybe they just look 2 ft in front of the car and "Ow" there is a turn there on their roads!

  • Remind me never to drive in the UK.

  • I can't believe people need videos for this.

  • @Crankep LOL!

I learned a lot watching these videos but I still needed to take my driving course to learn!

  • Overhand for me just feels awkward. I drive with my left hand underhand on the left side (of course). I use two hands to turn. Although I could use one, it feels comfortable to use two and they take turns touching the wheel. When my other hand touches the wheel, the other let's go. I think you should drive as long as you feel you have control of the vehicle. Any discomfort can lead to a miscalculation of a turn and a possible accident.

  • i drive with one hand

  • ok real thre is atutorio of reatrds for this wtf lol . how reatrded do u have to be to not know this

  • My driving instructer would shoot me if I turned like that!

  • @DholPrince well my driver instructor would cut my head off, slice it into cubes, and cook it with carrots and eat it very rare.... lmao jk

  • @boobie284 lmao i passed like 5 months ago, nd i do this method of turning quite frequently lmao. As long as you have 100% control is really isnt that bad. It feels a lot more natural to your hand rather than the other standard method, trust me.

  • @DholPrince loll tbh I was just kidding lmao but thanks for the advice... I just got my permit this monday so lol ... I'm like ok looking up some stuff on basics but this came up instead of the vids I was "Really" lookin' for... the mistakes people make.... lmao

  • @boobie284 LOL yeah

  • @DholPrince My driving instructer would shoot me if I didnt.

  • @8LiGhTs8 Lmao, wow I commented 9 months ago. Well I got my license 4.5months ago :), and tbh I turn like this ALL THE TIME! way quicker and feels more natural xD... It just depends on whatever you feel more comfortable to. As long as you always have complete control you will be fine..good luck on your test :)

  • @DholPrince Yeah I hate driving because of my instructer...

  • @8LiGhTs8 really?why what does he say? you live in UK or USA?

  • @DholPrince USA, its long story, but shes terrible. My friends have different instructers which are much better according to them. Apparently shes new at the job, which sucks for me.

  • @8LiGhTs8 Dude, change that bitch out now!!! lol, seriously, if you have a shitty instructor their ruining the whole driving experience and probably giving you bad habits which could kinda be dangerous later on. Your best bet would be to switch to one of your friends instructors, at least thats what I would do. Trust me you wanna pass ASAP. The first moment where you drive by yourself and the road is yours so simply GLORIOUS! lol

  • @DholPrince sounds like a plan, ima see what I can do.

  • @8LiGhTs8 Nice one bro

  • how can i do if im drifting????

  • Gees my driving instructor would go nuts if I ever turned a car like this.

  • this is the safest way to control the car through tough, tight, turns...I am not sure how you drive in Canada, but in the US this is the proper way ...Shuffling the wheel is DANGEROUS and dificult...

  • @bksaginaw034

Let's run that through logical process.

Pause the video at 0:06 or 0:07.

Left hand inverted (thumb down) at 3 o'clock. Right hand off the wheel entirely. Kid running from the outside of the turn sprints into the road without looking and you need to tighten the turn to avoid him.

In this position you have NO way of safely doing that without waiting for your right hand to get back to the wheel.

The main non-crossed techniques NEVER leave you unable to make immediate adjustments.

  • @thirteenfingers That's why the police are trained to use the pull-push technique. And learner drivers...

  • @bksaginaw034 No no , we do it the same way in canada too (Y)

  • @bksaginaw034 We use the hand over hand steering method in Canada as well.

As for everyone else, I don't feel you have the right to bash another Country's method of steering just because you are unfamiliar with it.

  • I teach driver and have for 18 years. This is the proper way of turning. You must cross your arms to go over ...

  • it's not unusual that they frown upon this kind of steering when you're doing your test in the UK..... for starters, when you're learning, they don't teach you how to drive properly or well.... they just teach you how to be safe around other road users, because you're in control of a huge piece of unfamiliar machinery.... so it's all gently-gently-two-hands-on-the-wheel-at-all-times nonsense.

you don't truly start learning to drive until after you've passed your test.

  • From what I know, your arms shouldn't be crossing over...

  • Wouldn't this cause you to make an unnecesarily sharp turn?

  • Was this video necessary? It takes common sense and simple logic to perform this.

  • I passed my drivers test perfectly, a 100% the first time and i didn't need to use that method...mhmmm

  • haha my bad, i don't know jack about driving. wanted to learn more

  • thanks man this means alot

  • lol KIA...FAIL.

  • dammit should ii turn the safe way or the way that doesnt look gay & make me look lyk a noob?

  • honestly.... what is the point of turning the steering wheel like this? is it for U-turns?

  • Comment removed

  • @avidfan185 parking genius

  • your not allowed to let go of the steering weel like that in meany places under a drivers test. you shoud only just let go in a way that you more slide the hand like the hand to hand. and thougs not crossing hands/arms

  • -.- i learn very much about this shit!

  • @1cheak2 well i got a ?. if u live in CA, USA, can u still pass or would u fail if u do a hand over hand or do u have to do it the hand to hang way to pass ???

  • @austinferree12 thats what i need to know!?! LOl my test is tuesday an im so lost on this issue

  • Why the hell do they teach this method?

  • @04smallmj i dont know, you dont even need to do hand over hand turning when you turn right or left, its so unnecessary.

  • @supersimpsonsfan100 I find it difficult to use the hand over hand technique now LOL. It feels more natural using pull-push.

  • @04smallmj parking lots i think

  • You never cross your hands on the wheel unless you want an instant fail.

  • @grey2fox or parking under the speed of 17 mph

  • its way faster if its hand under hand

  • I just spread out my fingers and push my arm against the wheel hard enough so my hand wont slip off the steering wheel and just turn. Sometimes I use my left hand if it's a bigger turn.

  • If i did that in my test they'd instantly fail my ass.

  • Too slow.

Press your palm against the steering wheel and use your palm to turn. Much faster.

(Not good if your hand is greasy, fat and sweaty, though).

  • @iHateKids555 just like driving a forklift

  • right.. and what if u have a sigarette in one hand a beer in the other??

  • This was a lot more helpful than the PennDOT manual. And I have to do it this way on my test or fail. Thanks for posting.

  • Push-pull is also used because you avoid injury if the airbags deploy. If you have your hands crossed over, you'll hit yourself.

  • Steering wheels suck! give me a PlayStation controller and day of the week!

  • Here in the UK if you cross your hands then that would be a fail if you're doing a test

  • how else do you do it?

  • In the UK, you have to use the push-pull steering method for the test.

  • @machineromance

Left hand moves in range 0600 to 1200

Right hand moves in range 1200 to 0600

both hands stay level, but only 1 hand is ever holding at a time

standard health & safety gone-mad culture here

  • @maximisatwat Well, the other one should "let it go" so that it's ready to hold it again in case of a sudden turn in the other direction.

  • @machineromance In UK you have to shuffle your hands because if you cross your arms you dont have as much control over your steering

  • @crazy456eyes In UK, people are more intelligent and less lazy and even brave. They can drive manual transmission in tiny cars with small engines on tiny roads, with turnabouts and other things like this.

  • @mathieuemi666 Turnabouts? LOL I think you mean ROUNDabouts!

  • @04smallmj Sorry. Excuse me. Es tut mir leid. Excusez-moi. Mi scusi!

  • @mathieuemi666 true true, and americans only need to be able to make the car go and they passed their test haha imagine if it was that easy here

  • @crazy456eyes Never said that (at least I didn't mean it).

But hey, be honest, driving powerful cars with automatic transmission on wide roads is easier than having to change gear at every steep and make turns in very tiny roads.

BTW, I like driving automatic too. I just can't afford it now...

  • @mathieuemi666 Yeah it's easier, but with gear's you can control the revs a lot more to your own preference, wheras with automatic it does it for you.. I guess it depends if you want an easy ride, but i'd get bored without gear's.. Just me though, i'd prefer manual gears.. What i prefer a LOT more though is being able to change gears with the tabs on the steering wheel.. Thats awesome and lot easier and convienient : )

  • @crazy456eyes Well, that could be great in a race or for fun, but when you're struck in traffic and in a hill, I can tell you there is really no fun.

I think I'm more tired because of the clutch pedal than the gear lever. It really depends of your day-to-day journey.

I've got no problem apart in traffic jams with manual transmission, but I wouldn't miss it if someone gave me a car with automatic gearbox. See what I mean?

Semi-automatic seems to be a good solution, like Ferrari's gearboxes :-)

  • @mathieuemi666 Yeah i know what you mean. Clutch pedal is tiresome after a while. Yeah semi automatic is my favorite lol

  • @machineromance shuffel steering, never let go of the wheel

  • @machineromance shuffle steering, never let go of the wheel

  • @machineromance you bloody move your fucking hands.stupid fuckin americans.always doing things the wrong way.

  • You can do some slight 'crossing' in the uk test as long as you show complete control of the vehicle. This is why the push pull method is mainly required. It is the most effective form of steering. Most people get lazy once they've passed and do far too much 'crossing', thinking its more effective or easier when most of the time it isnt. If you're driving with more 'crossing' than 'push pull' you're not steering effectively. But hey, each to their own as long as you dont hurt anyone else.

  • @pheeson it isnt here as long as your not going over 17 mph because thats the speed of which if you are in a "head on collision" the airbag comes out

  • @pheeson GOOD ! i hate hand over hand

  • @pheeson I was thinking that.. my test is on Monday as well!

  • @pheeson That's very interesting. I've never heard that before. Is it because of safety reasons? I'm just wondering because in America a lot of us use the hand over hand steering. However, I use the method where I go hand to hand. It drove my driving instructor crazy. But in the UK they use the hand to hand method right?

  • @thweepz Well i don't really know why it's not allowed here, but if think of it like that

Imagine having your hands crossed on the steering wheel, and the air bag goes off

Boom hand-to-face collision, and that'll be painful considering the momentum produced by the air bag

  • @pheeson If drivers are are conditioned not to cross an arm to the other side, they can only turn 90 deg with one hand and then stop for a short moment to switch hands. Or they may drop a hand to the bottom of the wheel then turn the wheel 180 deg.. In an emergency, this takes precious time.

drivers using hand over hand would have no reservation about crossing an arm to the other side, making a quick 1/2 turn possible (from 9 to 3 or vise versa), avoiding air bag deployment situation.

  • @pheeson Yes, but in America your guys method is a fail for us, unless taking left turns.

  • @pheeson Even here in Malta, you have to turn your steering wheel like an idiot.

  • @pheeson really? im surprised u fukin brits even need control for driving ur tiny ass cars in the 2 roads u have

  • @AbhiLabi We have "tiny ass" cars for our tiny ass roads. We don't have tiny cars for wide roads...

  • @04smallmj Shut the fuck up you ugly 'brit'. Go brush your nasty yellow coffee stained teeth, you don't have the right to talk.

  • @AbhiLabi I don't drink coffee actually, go and eat some snow, you trolling canadian.

  • @04smallmj That was a terrible come-back. Snow is actually edible by the way. And we don't eat snow, it is not even a common stereotype. However you drinking coffee, having nasty yellow teeth, not being able to pronounce the letters of the english language properly, making up terrible slang terms, having tiny useless streets, not having any large contributions to modern society are all stereotypes based on true facts. Wanna fuck off now?

  • @AbhiLabi I can't be bothered to argue with you. *blocked*.

  • @AbhiLabi LOL so your assumption that all British people drink coffee, have nasty yellow teeth, can't speak the NATIVE ENGLISH language properly, and don't contribute to modern society are based on facts? Please enlighten me, I'd love to see these "facts" supported by some kind of infallible evidence.

Tiny streets we indeed have in some areas but useless? No. Is Britain the only Sovereign State to create terrible slang terms? No.

In conclusion, you are an abhorrent fucktard.

    :)

  • @bigblackmanswilly Shut the fuck up you ugly negro. Get your black charcoal ass back to Africa. Fucking slave, what the fuck are you doing living with white people and supporting their country anyways, when they whooped your nasty greasy black ass to make them tea. Go fucking shine some shoes before you decide to reply to my comment. Also, please go get an education you stupid negro, all of you are polluting the world with crime and you are increasing death rates in every country!

  • @AbhiLabi Sir, I find your comment little more than a homosexual advance which, as flattered as I am, I must decline.

Oh and by the way, I'm not black lol. So yeah you may want to re-think that last post.

I bet you'll have a black husband some day! :)
