Hi, I would like to share a few thoughts with you...when you play in the high position, don't let your arm to rest on the instrument because it affects your mobility.everything has to be dinamic. try to keep your elbow up and your wrist curved.also if you would start playing sitting on a chair it will give you big technical advantages. I saw that the video is old, i'm shure you are way better now ;) keep practicing
you play with really nice feel, great job! i'm working on the second page (playing electric bass though) and needed to get some help on the rhythm for some parts.... thanks a mucho!
You've shamed me into practicing- I haven't touched my bass in over a week- till I saw this. Thank you for that. Asides from that, great playing! Very beautiful! Can I ask how long you've been playing and whether or not you've had formal training? Also, are you using sheet music? or tabs? or just playing by ear?
Wow. I am seriously impressed. I have always wanted to play but never had the money growing up. Now that I'm actually old enough to finance it myself I'm thinking of starting lessons. The fact that you've managed such skill on your own gives me hope. Not that I expect to reach the level you're at but I have hope haha
Wonderfully done. I am a bass player myself, going on my fourth year playing it. ^^ I'm first chair in my orchestra, but you blew me away with this. :D
Oh my GOODNESS! I could die right. But I won't because I want to listen to more of your gorgeous playing. I must say, I almost had an orgasm there. That was so beautiful. If anyone doesn't understand what I mean, grab an instrument, excluding the guitar and piano, they're overrated. Feel the music as you play. It'll make sense. Once again, wonderful performance! Bravo!
Hey, where'd you get the score/sheet music? If you don't mind sending me the link or a copy... that'd be much appreciated. I was wondering if I could use this as an audition song for LVA.
I am a bass player as well, only a junior in high school and I absolutely love it ^_^ I've done so much musically, I joined choir as well. I must say, I am very impressed with your playing. Great job! =]!!!!
I've only played bass for about 3 months and I felt nobody really appreaciated what it really means to play bass. You just changed my mind, thank you.
@Silverflame702 if it's making a screeching sound, then your attack needs work. In other words, how you start the note. Rosin may also be an issue. There are many different types of rosin for solo and orchestral playing. In my opinion the 2 that are the all around best are Carlsson Swedish bass rosin and Pops bass rosin. But don't overuse rosin. U just barely need enough to where u can get a good attack, but not too much to where u have to work to get the bow moving.
By the way, I have a question... I'm a bass player/student with three years of experience. Do you have any tips on how to control the bow and not make weird noises? It gives a kind of screeching sound when I use the bow. I use French bow hold. I'm not sure if it's the rosin or just my playing. My bow is straight and in between the bridge and finger board.
in my attempt to understand why anyone in the world would dislike this for any reason i realize that we are in a world where there will always be people who wish to hate on beautiful things.
very nicely done! u shouldn't rest ur wrist on the upper bout tho... leads to carpel tunnel syndrome. but I like the thumb position back on the neck. gotta try out that fingering for myself :) gorgeous bass btw. sounds wonderful. keep up the good work!
I think you did great! But Hmm, I'd like to make a stupid question: how does one figure out where the notes are in say, a bass, a cello.. if there are no frets (as in a guitar?)
I've been listening to this almost nonstop since about... let me check... 11:34 when my friend sent me the link. It is now 1:39. Congratulations, my friend.
I can play this on the bass and i've been trying to convert it to double, except my tonation on the higher notes is horrible, haha....But very nice job man, even had vibrato and everything
Wow-- I'm really impressed. I used to play the double bass and switched to viola in my late teens. One of the reasons I switched was because pieces like this, which are relatively straightforward on the viola, are total virtuoso pieces on the double bass. I'd never seen any of the Bach suites performed on the double bass until watching this, and boy, it looks hard! But this dude does an admirable job-- the music comes through despite the really serious technical challenges. Nice job!
