I rember opening day as I was driving out of Seattle for Eugene, OR and heard on the automobile radio that a Blue Angel had just crashed in Seattle. I did get season tickets for the Fair, and sure had a lot of company from out ot town.
My grandfather met an unfortunate end at this fair. They said he had a heart attack, but I personally think it was something else, because he was an accountant. That's just me though....
@crumpet212 Fisher scones, still available at the Western Washington State Fair in Puyallup, and ones like them are sold at Sluy's Bakery in Poulsbo, Wa. I measure all scones against those!
@davidoran123 I was 10yrs old. I remember the future phones that had a screen you could see who you were talking too. The day we were their, was the day that Marilyn Monroe died. My older brother was upset about the news. I was visiting from the Cleveland, OH area and never dreamed later in life that I would move to the Seattle area. Can I ask where you were visiting from? Some of the tech has come true. Geez hard to believe that was 48 yrs ago.
@MistofRain752 I lived in Vancouver Wa. at the time. So it wasn't far for us to go, but it took me into another dimension. I was a space crazy kid, Astroboy cartoons and Space Angel. I loved it, it was the future.
I'd love to see this shared on the Seattle World's Fair Time Capsule that is part of the 50th anniversary celebration. Check it out at thenextfifty(dot)org.
I grew up on Queen Anne Hill and that's the Hill you can see in the background. My Family and I could easily walk to the fair, or take an electric bus. I'm hoping that at least one of the Seattle Worlds fair videos will show pics of my family. We frequented Seattle Center.
I like the video. I wish there was footage of the Washington State exhibit available. KING TV shot some and made it available several years ago to tape but I forgot to record it and I think they destroyed the footage after that.
We were their early in the morning. Even though I was only 10 yrs old at the time, I remember standing in long lines to get in the exhibits and how hot it was inside.
This is great footage. As I stated in another post, it is a shame that more of the original world's fair structures were not preserved at the Seattle Center. History lost.
Born and raised in Seattle and went to the Fair several times. I even sold Skipper pins at the center when I was in high school. Another song like this is "We Love It in Seattle".
This is great! Thanks for posting it. I went to that as a high school sophomore. It was a wonderful experience, a glimpse of the future, or at least a possible future, and other parts of the world. Thanks for the memories :)
I like the video. It's too bad my Grandfathers Worlds fair footage shot on 8mm film never survived time otherwise I would have posted it on You Tube as well.
We had the 8mm tranfered to DVD after my parents passed. I was only 10yrs old when we visited from the Cleveland, OH area. Never thought I would end up living here and loving it! If you still have the film or any of his films it would be worth having them transfered.

Saw a million silver dollars, got a Heinz pickle pin, rode the Bubbleator, and was able to touch a Mercury capsule.
God, the Hofbrau Haus! Haven't thought of that for years

Enjoyed the video shots. Could have done without the annoying music though. Why not use something that somehow had a connection to the scenes?

I was eight years old and so excited about space and the future. What happened, we were promised jet-packs and hotels on the moon?
