That's the price for not having brothers or sisters. Maybe I'll be away from home 5 years and it'll be hard to come back. I'm worried about Ma and Pa, but I have to follow my dreams... too bad I cannot take them with me. But I'll def come back bringing honor to the old man. I hope he doesn't die first. It's hard!
Why do we walk around thinking it's so important to make that million? You can have lots of success, but what's it worth if you don't have anyone to share it with?
I'd rather have a decent job and be with my family alot than being a wealthy businessman and having shallow relationship with family and friends.
A lot of professionally successful people care for their parents too... this ad makes sense but it feels like it's also trying to make an excuse for people who aren't doing so great in their careers.
I dunno bout lawyers, but doctors who perform life saving surgeries are performing a great service for people. Making tons of money usually means you're doing something important for society. It's good to take care of your family of course, but don't forget that some people have jobs that take care of many people..
@jerryku Making tons of money usually means you're doing something important for society. Thank GOD you used USUALLY i wanted to strike you down :) . Hi there im the USA army we can spend A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY on ... ANYTHING , bomb shells , choppers , ships , subs , tanks , rifles , armor , bullets ...... and on and on we help decrease surpl;us population - here is also a valid argument :)
A very meaningful video. It caught my eye to think back for a while that most of us have tendency to be so "STUCK-UP" attaching ourselves chasing towards financial. Which makes us forgotten our origin womb.
Very few of us would do what the guy did to feel close to parent again.
i think the idea of this advertisement is to show how children should support their parents...rather than Singaporeans should take care of their parents. Its happening everywhere....
i think this is chu chow [thats how its pronounced, not sure if it's spelled correctly] its an old dialect of chinese , i speak it and i understood most of what they were saying
As a Chinese-born Teochew, I would say it's a mix of Teochew and Hokkien. They say 'loo' as you, and as far as I know, only Teoyeow (潮阳) people of Teochew say that.
Well-made and delivered social commentary about how the best things in life are NOT things. A timely reminder that we should be striving for significance and not just success.
Simple but good video. To a lot of Asians - the Chinese in particular; & I say this as a Singaporean Chinese - it's all about "face": people talk about how successful & rich their kids are, how many degrees they have, which expensive universities they've attended, when really, a filial child like the one in this video is more worth being proud of. We should really learn to focus on what's important.
I agree with you. Having a filial child is much better than children having degrees from expensve universities and power earnings from the professional careers. Thanks for sharing..
@richwee this video should be broadcast into the media of the Chinese-speaking world!
I totally agree with you two! I wished my parents thought like the two of you! It's honestly tiring and absolutely stupid how its always about your appearance and who has the "biggest" whatever. I feel that our parents forget what's really more valuable.
@ctti i agree man. what the point of earning so much money. Why dont we balance things out by earning what is sufficient and using the extra time with family. If you are a Singaporean, im glad to have you as a fellow Singaporean:)
I'm from Singapore. Interestingly my government tells me the exact opposite thing. Strive harder... and send your mother to Malaysia to cut cost.... In many ways I like Malaysia.
huh... i never came across such statements from our mm or whatsoever. where did u hear such ythings? was it in the paper or news? wow... i didnt know that
You may be right. They should learn from Singapore government and remove all priveledges and let only money dictate rights. Equal rights? I wonder how much bribe money one needs to colloct to equal a Singapore minister's legitimate million dollar salary. Go start your political views somewhere else. This is about moral values which Singapore is definately weak at.
"A touching Ad to serve as a gentle reminder for us to treasure our parents & not to neglect them who had labored in sweat & tears to bring us up. May God bless you and your loved ones abundantly...''
im not surprised if the late yasmin ahmad did this clip. remember the advertisement funeral about beautifully imperfect? anyway petronas commercials are always over the top! i ♥ them! especially during festive seasons. try youtubing them see if they have any more petronas commercials for festive seasons. :)
Propaganda... really? more like a small mind if you can't see the point behind this video.
