Anyway your comments are hilarious, keep 'em coming! Guys like you are sheer entertainment. Can't get enough of your holier-than-thou attitude!
What amuses me is that Blur did this song as a throwaway disco-rock thing, and it's brilliant, then about five years later there's loads of bands like Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs making their whole careers out of this one sound.
@zackpliskin: You say Blur are responsible for that "sound" as you say, when, obviously (like most of Blurs music) 'girls & boys" pays homage if anything to the disco, "new wave" so-called sound of the early 80s, just as "Parklife" is an obvious musical nod to the Jam, Clash Kinks..If anything Franz Ferdinand & to a lesser extent, Kaiser Chiefs take more from the "dancey" post punk , early 80s sound of bands like Gang of Four, Orange Juice etc...Blur are NOT the great innovators your imply.
@deathfromabove77: My last comment didn't imply that Blur are innovators, it pointed out that Blur did this disco/rock revival song years before the latest crop of bands did. "No You Girls" by Franz Ferdinand sounds pretty similar to this song for example - it's even in the same key, G minor!
For me personally though, Blur have been innovators. I wouldn't be into a diverse range of music and write songs like I do without hearing certain styles for the first time while listening to them.
@zackpliskin : Well , the fact that you say Blur did this " disco/rock/ revival" song years ago before contradicts what you might think about them being innovators. Your taste is your own, but Albarn and co have spent most of their career ( and i've already given you 2 examples) of making fairly obvious homages ( to the point of parody) to a period of music (late 70s early 80s) you have little knowledge of. I also write/play music and there are plenty of songs in G minor. Not a great example.
@deathfromabove77: It was a revival of an unpopular genre. It didn't really become popular until the turn of the millenium, so my comment is accurate.
I'm fully aware of the myriad of influences Blur have: that is the definition of Britpop, a homage/reference to past pop of English heritage.
There are lots of songs in any keys, what's your point? The Franz Ferdinand song I mentioned also has similar drum patterns, tempos and keyboard tones.
If you want to discuss this further, PM is better.
@zackpliskin:" It was a revival of an unpopular genre"when did popularity or lack of it, in any art form, determine a work of art's importance or influence?..If that's what you base your statement on, then you REALLY have no idea what you're talking about.Go back to your initial post..What I take offense to ( & the fact that you consider it trivial is an easy copout) is your OBVIOUS, arrogant implication that Blur are responsible for that "sound" as you are say. You are WRONG and I've proved it.
@deathfromabove77 "when did popularity or lack of it, in any art form, determine a work of art's importance or influence" There are plenty of art movements throughout history that were a result of an attempt at reviving an old form. Just look at Neoclassicism or the Pre-Raphaelites.
zackpliskin is right. Blur did revive an unpopular genre before everybody else started doing. They didn't invent these things, but they had a huge influence in mining old culture and making it popular again.
@zackpliskin : " If you want to discuss further. PM is better"..lol..for your information Mr "make big statement bout popular music but have no knowledge of pop music history", I'll 'discuss this further" at a time that suits ME. Got it?..lol.."PM is better"..what an asshole
@deathfromabove77: I didn't make a particularly big statement about pop music. You're just reading things into it because you're presumptuous, one of those dickheads who has to be "right" no matter what. Is your self-esteem really that low, that you have to put people down on YouTube? I'm laughing... :D
There's no rationalising with people like you so I'll quit while I'm ahead. Thanks for the laugh though, I can always use a good chuckle.
zackpliskin: once again resorting to vague pontification and then a lame "brushoff" without answering the question..you're embarrassed that someone with more knowledge and understanding than you about the aforementioned subject has exposed your vagueness and stupidity,,,game, set and match to me, i believe..lol..you'll think twice before posting baseless comments on subjects you know nothing about..my work is done..lol

Even an Oasis fan would have to admit that Alex is a pretty sick bassist, haha. The bassline for this song is great. You can't hear it too well on this recording, but if you check out the music vid... Man. haha
there were only 2 blur pop albums, parklife and the great escape, modern life wasn't popular when it came out, and the rest was well, as they put it once, "as the beatles became more beatlesque through time, we became more blurry"
Indeedy. Great face from them all too, while we're kinda on the subject. Ahhhhhh, if Damon could only know how much I adore him. Blur are the best band ever. Anyone who doesn't appriciate this fact are blind, deaf or both.

Oasis have one mediocre idea. Blur can go from popscene to parklife to coffe and tv to girls and boys to tender to song 2 to beetlebum. Variety mate. Plus there's Graham's solo stuff, the good the bad and the queen from damon, not to mention a little band called gorillaz. Even fat les if you like that kinda thing.... I don't but whatever, blur rule. This rules.
I have to say that I like Blur better (mainly because I think they had a lot more musical depth and talent), but I'm a pretty big Oasis fan as well. They have pretty different sounds; I never saw why fans always divided themselves into the Blur vs. Oasis camps the way they have.
