  • she reminds me of taylor swift. but she's better

  • The dog is Paul McCartney's dog, Martha. Isn't she adorable? Paul was kind of shepherding Mary Hopkins' career and they filmed this in his backyard in London on Cavendish Avenue.

  • There must be some better quality footage around; i like to see her clearly!

  • Looks like classical guitar technique.. Nice one!

  • Welsh is it? Mary - wots that dog up to - The Dulux ad wasn't scheduled until next week! You've got him a bit randy now Mary! Watch he don't start humpin' yer pegs!

  • Singing in Welsh, I guess?

  • Yes, Welsh it is,

  • I see the comment about language... I might guess she does one verse in Gaelic based on hers and McCartney's roots.

  • I LOVE this song. I have only ever heard one other version... by NIna Simone. The song was written by Barry Gibbs I think.

  • Mary Hopkin has a voice of an angel one of the best singers ever!!!!!!

  • In my opinion, she was a superstar. She had the beauty and voice of an angel. She didn't like pop music and I agree with her feelings on that. She is definitely a folk and old gospel type of artist to me and I think that the Lord blessed her with enough stardom and time on the world stage.

  • how in the name of Heaven did this beautiful woman with her beautiful voice fail to become a superstar? One would have thought she had everything (including, as this song shows, fine tunes to sing).

  • @FabioPBarbieri From what I recall reading the industry changed and wanted female performers to be more sexual in nature something Hopkin was not comfortable with. So she withdrew from the industry for several years to start a family.

  • Behind her, the giant panda.XD

  • Was that Paul's sheep dog? :)

  • Yes that was Martha

  • I have a song that's stuck in my memory from back then. I think it was Mary's voice. I was tuning stations my FM radio and heard only a portion of the song. The lyrics I remember, sounded something like 'Perostis pera condis" Anybody know?

    U.W.

  • She did "those were the days" in many languages? Maybe it was one of them

  • This particular song was nothing like Those Were The Days. It sounded more like a celebratory folk dance, i.e. Hava Nagila.

    U.W.

  • The language sounds more like greek?? Type in Nana Mouskouri in youtube and try her?

It's really annoying when you have a song in your head and you cannot trace it good luck

    Pat

  • Mary did a version of "GUANTANAMARA" in welsh which is an uptempo folk song.Any help?

  • I am quite familiar with Guantanamera, but this song is nothing like that in melody or rhythm. It bears more resemblance to "Habanera" from Carmen, if that's any clue.

    F.M.

  • I had great difficulty at the beginning of this clip determining just what it was in the background. I thought at one stage that it was a garden gnome trying to suck the end of Mary's guitar. Nothing tho can distract from Mary's crystal tones

  • I love this song by the BeeGees

I don't think it appears on any of Mary's records

  • There's a great talent, confusing to sheepdogs though she may be.

  • This quote comes from Marys' own website marhopkindotcom

"Yes, it was indeed the lovely Martha in the video," recalls Hopkin "I had forgotten this reel existed until [my daughter] found it on Youtube. I was sitting in Paul's garden on a lovely summer's day, singing with guitar, while Martha completely upstaged me, rolling about with legs waving in the air Martha, not me!

There are more interviews on there...

  • That website should read maryhopkindotcom sorry!

  • Hi Pat!! Just getting to sort out my Mary records. Would like to hear from you again!!

    Happy New Year

    Stephen Baker

  • Amazing live performance. Pure quality.

  • Mary is amazing

  • i can see Martha in the background :)

  • Mary Hopkin's voice is wonderful, cristal clear, but this song sounds more better by Abi & Esther Ofarim.

  • I didnt know they recorded this one... Just searched on youtube and had a listen... Yes, a really lovely version indeed... thanks for the info.

  • Down, boy! Down!

  • Absolutely exquisite vocals..pure, crystal clear. This song more then any others, Mary's vocals really sound like early Joan Baez did in the 60's & 70's. Is this song on any of Mary Hopkins's albums? What an amazingly beautiful song!!

  • Its a Gibb Brothers song and it really is beautiful I so wish she had recorded it... Hopefully there is a demo out there just waiting to be released !

  • Its been recorded Pat.....in Welsh!

  • I am still looking for the English Language Demo... I bet there is one out there somewhere... I never give up hope! LOL

  • Very nice vocals.

  • Great thanks

    Ku Japan

  • Yes, this mowie was shot by Paul probably in his Cavendish Avenue home.

  • This was a promo film directed by Tony Bramwell to publicise Apple, filmed in the garden of Cavendish Ave, you can see Martha playing in the background, and as Mary is finishing the song, you can just see someone behind her, which is Paul McCartney who says "and that was mary Hopkin now over to Magic Alex"

  • Thanks for your commenting, Ms Pat.

I misudersdood that this was taken at Paul's housegarden.

  • Hi Ku,

Yes this is Pauls garden it's his house at Cavendish Ave, you can see his old dog Martha playing in the background.

  • Good Mornig Ms Pat. Now it is 7:30. Japan time is GMT+9.

Martha is Paul's beloved. She went to the world of flowers in her 16 I hear somewhere.

My Mari, appears the oldest post of my blog, a Shih Tzu, went the same place at the age of 17.

Just now I joined the webring member for Mary.

  • Mary sings Bee Gees. lovely!

  • "This, too, shall pass", 66flamer! Chin up, believe in yourself and you'll be fine. Believe me, I've been there and I know.

  • ive lived a long while.

things were happy a while ago. not always happy but i was i.

have a great time with each other everyone.

    love this place.

    im all done.

    keep loving the music.

    bye.

  • what does that mean

  • What does what mean?

  • that statement above about "being all done"....

  • Well spotted all for recognising Martha! I know of her of course, but wouldn't have put 2 and 2 together. Lovely to see her and Mary.

  • I remember "Martha my dear"!! LOVED it. Pity it wasn't played as much as a lot of other Beatles songs.

  • Wow thats Martha, Paul McCartncy's

sheep dog. He wrote "Martha My Dear"

    for her..

  • thats a fukin aligator in the background

  • Eu adorei ver este vídeo!

Épico! (Mary and Martha playing together!)

    Muito grata!

  • Fucking beautiful song.

Where was the mighty Macca? - behind the camera?

  • Wow, That's MARTHA!!!! (with Mary)

  • No, It's not a cat it's an old english sheepdog,!

Go on then post a video of yourself doing a version of this song and we'll let you know how it sounds....

  • Wow! very impressive sounds like a Welsh Joan Baez. Jones the Baez? That dog would be 280 yrs old by now!

  • Wish i could see more of that!!

I can tell you that Martha died in the 1980s sometime at the age of 16 :( One of her decendants can be seen on the cover of 'Paul is Live'

  • Wow. I wish I was born a little earlier than 1964 so I could've seen her live.

  • I have been so very lucky to have seen her in concert many times, the first was in May 1972 in London and the last time was 1999 in Scotland, I so hope Mary will do at least one more live performance

  • The dog is so cute. What is the dog's name?

  • I believe it's Martha

  • Is Martha still around?

  • This was filmed almost 40 years ago!

  • I'm told by richpat, "Yes it is martha, it was filmed in Paul's back garden in Cavendish Ave"

  • It is much fun to see and hear this version, and MH shows off her voice very nicely indeed... The beautiful version of ESTHER OFARIM is however much better.. (2 versions, the single with the Bee Gees as choir-boys, and the LP/CD slightly more "tame"..)

  • flowers, colors and a groovy girl signing with a guitar... so cute and hipie

  • that's all you got out of this? What a complete and utter fucking idiot.

  • Mary Hopkins tiene una voz única y afinada. y la letra es profunda.

Resalté las cosas qe me gustan de ésa época.

No dije nada malo señor. No tiene porqé enojarse, señor.

Yo solo tengo 16 años. Que bueno qe no soy hijo de usted...

  • Which is your problem with the boy? The small one as soon as he is 16 years old, damn grandfathers. He did not say to anything bad of Mary hopkins. You are a bitter neurotic stupid idiot!

  • PLEASE<PLEASE Does anyone know what is this called?? and what ilbum its on?? Many Thanks for any help.....Regards..!

  • Its called "Morning of my life" it was written by the gibbs (bee gees) she only ever recorded it in her native Welsh language

  • The song she sang is called "in the morning".

  • it seems to depend which cd or lp you look at, If you look at the Melody film credits it shows it as "MOrning of my life",??

  • Anyone can tell me the storie of her and Paul? LOL!!!

  • OMIGOD, That's MARTHA! :)

  • O yes she is beautiful and sings like an angel!

    Love and light!

  • A British Joan Baez,

  • Isn´t it Martha, the dog there... yeah, could be Pauls dog... :) Nice song, I like Mary..

  • Yes it is martha, it was filmed in Paul's back garden in Cavendish Ave

  • she sounds like an English Joan Baez -

  • Excuse me, that'll be a Welsh Joan Baez, if you don't mind!

  • I know, I have that record. The best version of this song is the original Australian demo from 1966 (available on the "Brilliant From Birth" compilation) with Maurice Gibb doing the lead vocals. The Bee Gees later re-recorded the song for the 1971 film "Melody" and that version isn't nearly as good.

  • This has to be one of, if not the most covered songs in the entire Bee Gees catalogue. Interesting that she sings the first and third verses in English and the second verse in Welsh.

  • Mary recorded this song in Welsh for another label "cambrian records" in Welsh it was called "Yn Y Bore"

  • This song can be found on two different Mary LPs: The Welsh world of Mary Hopkin (Decca 1979) and The Early Recordings (Sain 1996) but then sung only in Welsh. Sain bought the old recordings from the Welsh record company Cambrian where Mary had recorded from the age of 16 - so Those were the days was NOT Mary's first recording.

  • Further information kindly supplied by richpat is that this was a promo film directed by Tony Bramwell to publicise Apple...and as Mary is finishing the song, you can just see someone behind her, which is Paul McCartney who says "and that was mary Hopkin now over to MAgic Alex"

  • so, who wrote this song? Did Mary ever record it (aside from this?)

  • It's actually a Bee Gees song!

  • The only decent thing the bloody BeeGees (music to slit your throat by) ever wrote!!

  • This is great, the qaulity is quite good as well.

This was filmed at Paul's Cavendish ave house in the garden, spot Martha in the background!

    THanks for sharing
