  • Well done this is my fav poem from now on

  • I have also seek to live by these word from the moment I read them in 1978 (when I was 17 years old). I have had the words on diaplay untill this day.

    Thanks ME.

  • Yes!! I have loved this since I first read it at 18 or so. My love for it is probably the one thing that has remained 'constant' in my life. The music is also a perfect fit, although it can make almost anything sound (or look, or taste) good.

    Peace and Love

    Carolina

  • Well done.

  • Good words to live by. I should remember them more often...

  • Positive attitudes have their place I suppose ( and I'm all for human kindness ) but in a sense

the higher you soar the farther you fall.

  • Beautiful sentiments quickly evaporate in the harsh light of reality, lofty motives disappear in the presence of human predators. Backed into a corner, ethics dissolve and human nature returns to selfish regard. People suck.

  • Selfish people and the harsh light of a sucky world are yet more reasons to be wise, hopeful and kind.

If you know for sure things will get worse, does logic not suggest we start as lofty and ethical as we know how?

  • Incredibly well done! Music fits well too. I memorized this in junior high school and I strive to follow it as well, it means so much to me. I hear the words in my head often. Sometimes the other voices are talking too loud and I can't hear it at all, but that's ok, that's why I memorized it. LaLaLaLaLa!

  • You're right. I find the beauty of this poem is that it really covers the whole spectrum of life. I've had it hanging on my wall since a friend gave it to me about a decaade ago, and sometimes I just stop and read it for a while.

As for the music, it's arguably my favourite composition and I have long been wanting to use it to make a video.

  • Marvelous. Really like this kind of video, takes me on a trip and wakes me up at the same time. Brava!

  • Life is full of signs, we either see them and are blissfully ignorant, or we, like myself, more and more in life, listen and learn, or just know wether we're in the right place or not within the big scheme of things. I've had a few signs in life lately, I'm listening to the messages behind them and am doing better for it. This video let me know I'm in the right place, right now. Thank you for being a messenger in my life today.

    Peace.

  • Thank-you for believing, and letting me be a part of your journey.

  • Excellent!

  • Thanks. I can't take credit for the music, but it is one of my favourites.

  • The words to this thoughtful-powerful poem sum up to the truth about life better than a library full of encyclopedias! lol!

I just LOVE it Phaedress..... 5 stars and favoriting too : )

    Billy......xx

  • Thanks Billy.

I'm glad I can share Ehrmann's words, so true almost one hundred years after he wrote them.

  • Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! NICE AND UPLIFTING! JUST WHAT I NEED IN THIS COLD AND NEGATIVE WORLD! PEOPLE LOVE TO STEW IN THEIR OWN SHIT AND WANT U TO SIT DOWN IN IT WITH THEM.

THIS VID PROVES THERE ARE STILL BEAUTIFUL THINGS IN THIS WORLD!

    GRIOT.

  • Honey, you're shouting!

But I agree, many people like to sit around and moan. I used to be one of them, actually. But then I spent a year hanging out on the cancer ward, where I saw real hardship and real courage and stopped my whining for good.

    (hugs)

  • very nice video

this makes me feel like having a picnic on the beach on a cold rainy day, i've never done that before, kinda sounds like wearing sandals in the snow, i'm off topic now

  • Sandals in the snow...I love it. Once, I was taking a scuba class during winter, (at a pool). When I was freed from the constricting outfit, bottles and stuff, I would run outside and roll around in the snow in my bathing suit.

    Ah joy!

  • haha sounds fun!

scuba is self contained underwater breathing apperatis....or something like that...my choir teach taught me that.....choir is a strange place to learn that....oh well knowlege is knowlege

  • Beautifully done :)

  • thanks

  • nice message have you got a bike now?

  • No, I don't have a bike; why?

  • you should not be stuck inside a car in that loverly courntryside.

  • I want to come to YOUR lovely countryside and learn to ride with you!

  • OH phaedress if only i where strong enough but i do try

  • you are perfect as you are: be gentle with yourself. :)

  • Lovely video!...great photos..and I loooove the Kreutzer Sonate very much as well.

    Thanks Beeke

  • Wow, that was great. Well known though it might be, it was a prose-poem I've never ween before. Too much Seinfeld and not enough of the classics I guess, LOL. I favorited it.

  • Live Laugh Love~ Loved it! Hugs~

  • Thanks for sharing that with us Phaedress. In this crazy world we often forget about the things in life that can boost our spirits and let us soar. The simple things in life that are free like a beautiful poem:)))

  • I concur.

  • thank you!

  • I can't comment on the poem, as that would be truly arrogant. However, I think this is one of your better vids. Timed beautifully to the music and the poem's meanings. Another pheather in your chapeau!

  • Oh come on, what's a little arrogance among friends? *wink*

  • Yes, you're right, this is my sort of video thank you dear phaedress for reminding me of these beautiful words, and how well everything fits together: music, pictures, words - nice work:)

  • So glad you liked it & thanks for subscribing.

  • Phaedress you are a tru marvel. I wish I had the capacity you do to speak as elloguently as you do. I love you how are able to get to the spirit of things

    ((((Hugs))))

  • Oh, how I wish that were true!

This is a very well-known prose-poem, written almost one hundred years ago. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Yeah but you brought to life.

  • These sayings are true and worthy of all acceptation! Well done!

  • "Relax and know that everything is unfolding as it should" has been my mantra in times of stress.. I had no idea how close to the line in Desiderata it was. ... and so much more in this - thanks for a lovely few moments of peace!

  • I've had the poem on my wall for years, and always I find new truths in it.

  • It's a wonderful recipe for happiness and peace. It was written the year I was born!

  • 1920?!?

    I don't think so, hon.

  • haha you're right! The copyright I saw must pertain to the calligraphy, not the poem. Either that or there's a wrinkly portrait of me in Dorian Gray's attic LOL

  • What a wilde idea!

  • Bellissimo ☺

    Thanks for sharing.

  • what a beautiful gift you've given us today phaedress! 5 stars and fav'd. Thankyou! it is just beautiful and perfect music!

  • "Strive to be happy" - yes indeedy I WILL! :-) Very nice. Favorited and starred

  • I know and love this piece. Someone recorded it in the 60s or 70s, and I remember hearing it on the radio, also to a classical tune, I think. I agree...some of the wisest words written. Thanks! :)

  • Yes, I've heard the recording. But I find that reading something puts it more firmly in the mind than hearing it.

  • Beautiful Video, and a Poem filled with much wisdom. Thanks, phaedress!

  • Beautiful vid! =)

  • Good work!

  • What a beautiful video! Thank you for making it, sweet lady! Keep smilin'

  • thanks, sweet girl!!
