I just saw them last night in Detroit and I must say they sound amazing, no drama, and no booze.....just good ole Van Halen. And I mean VAN HALEN....pre Hagar, they have managed to recapture their sound before Hagar joined the band.....something I have not seen a reunion band pull off. Roth is stilll in great shape and a excellent showman. Eddie and Alex didn't miss a note, and Woflgang handles Anthony's vocals and bass like a pro. I was very impressed

People bought VH1 on an album (and in alot of cases more than 1 album because they'd wear them out), then on cassette, then on CD, then probably on iTunes. It's hard to compare that to Hagar when he was singing when it was pretty much just CD's.

im a huge VH fan and i travelled from the UK to toronto in 1998 to see them live and it was fantastic! I was gonna do the same in 2004 to see this tour cause it had been 6 years but i ended up not going...this reminds me that i didn't miss anything! Im glad i didn't see this tour....EVH is all over the place..sad really. Great to see him back to his best again in 2012 :-)
It is funny, there are two poles in the band. The good guys: Sammy Hagar and Mike Anthony who seem to be very close. And we have the bad guys: Eddie and Alex.
There's only one speed of train wreck and that's full out. Unfortunately when the dates are booked you're committed. This group was done before this tour. The reunion show I saw with DLR was pretty good but nothing like pre-2004 with either singer, I'm sure.
I just finished Sammy's book. That tour was a disaster according to Sammy. By then Eddie was so out of control with alcohol and from his behavior meth or coke. Sammy didn't even want to be in the same hotel as Eddie. They stopped flying together because Eddie got disruptive on the private jet and pissed Sammy off. Later in the show, Eddie would come out with Samuri hair and be f'd up. Very sad chapter in their history.

Sammy and the rest of the band was awesome but Eddie's solo sounded like a kid playing the guitar for the first time. He was almost certainly intoxicated. The 2nd show was much better. He seemed sober and his solo was blistering. This guy has destroyed this band so many times. I sure hope he stays clean. That's a lot of $ to pay to hear shit playing

Eddie sounds terrable, so many notes missed, but he is still better than alot of other guitarists drunk. Alex is by far the best rock drummer there is period. I hope eddie can say away from the alcohol becuse he sounds alot better sober.

This tour was AWFUL!! People were filing out during the encore at the show I went to. Ed was a sloppy drunk mess & his playing was horrible. Hagar was off key all night & couldn't hit the notes anymore.
The only ones who held it together were Alex & M. Anthony... REFUND for this lame shit!!!

VH were huge when Spammy joined and anybody who could sing could have carried on the band. Sales declined under Spammy. Promoters lost money on the Monsters of Rock and Hagar reunion tours.
DLR helped build VH from nothing. Sammy inherited DLR's fame and drove the band into the ground. DLR brought them back in 2007 for their biggest tour ever. Expect more in 2012.

im a huge VH fan and i travelled from the UK to toronto in 1998 to see them live and it was fantastic! I was gonna do the same in 2004 to see this tour cause it had been 6 years but i ended up not going...this reminds me that i didn't miss anything! Im glad i didn't see this tour....EVH is all over the place..sad really. Great to see him back to his best again in 2012 :-)

There's only one speed of train wreck and that's full out. Unfortunately when the dates are booked you're committed. This group was done before this tour. The reunion show I saw with DLR was pretty good but nothing like pre-2004 with either singer, I'm sure.

I just finished Sammy's book. That tour was a disaster according to Sammy. By then Eddie was so out of control with alcohol and from his behavior meth or coke. Sammy didn't even want to be in the same hotel as Eddie. They stopped flying together because Eddie got disruptive on the private jet and pissed Sammy off. Later in the show, Eddie would come out with Samuri hair and be f'd up. Very sad chapter in their history.

Sammy and the rest of the band was awesome but Eddie's solo sounded like a kid playing the guitar for the first time. He was almost certainly intoxicated. The 2nd show was much better. He seemed sober and his solo was blistering. This guy has destroyed this band so many times. I sure hope he stays clean. That's a lot of $ to pay to hear shit playing

I saw them twice that year..once in Worcester and once in Tampa about 3 months apart...it was great seeing them back together and the crowd atmosphere was incredible, but Eddie sounded terrible and missed hundreds of notes.

At the 2003 NAMM show, Ed showed the crowd a new riff he had come up with-- it was the exact same riff he used in the "Two & a half men" episode with Sheen. Wow... 6 years... Way to go after it, Ed! This tour was AWFUL!! People were filing out during the encore at the show I went to. Ed was a sloppy drunk mess & his playing was horrible. Hagar was off key all night & couldn't hit the notes anymore.
The only ones who held it together were Alex & M. Anthony... REFUND for this lame shit!!!
