What kind of Sandpaper do you use to sand a console before you paint it?

My Model 1 SEGA Genesis needs a Minor Paint Job.

  • @Riddler95 I have something really fine like maybe 1000 grit. Just enough to scuff it up and clean off anything stuck on the plastic.

  • subcribed ty!!! i love seeing stuff like this i loved the nintendo/sega war back in the 90s now that im older i went back and started picking up stuff for my collection. id have to say its alot more better to get like 10/15 games for the older consoles than it is buying a new game for the current gens lol

  • @Nonexistanthuman Sounds like me I grew up all Nintendo and hated Genesis back in the day but then just about 4 years ago I started collecting all the old stuff again and I really got into the Genesis.

  • What happen to the video before this one?

  • Cool mod. The Dreamcast looks really good with a blue LED as well.

  • That is pretty damn cool. Epic LED on the Genesis now!

  • I bet you could paint the 16-bit logo gold, and Put a little megadrive logo in the corner!

  • bad ass

  • please help i have 2 old megadrives they did work i put them away in 1990 tried to play with it 2009 does not work you turn it on no light nothing on screen help both the same

  • @UNAL0504 Mabye it got damp, Something short circuited, mabye you need to change the fuze or replace the plug? Try replacing the fuze, if not then get another plug.

  • Very informative, good work man :D

  • what kind of paint did you use? I need to know because i want to do the same thing to mine

  • that's pretty damn cool

  • That looks great.

  • Looks sharp my man, nice and sharp :D

  • great job it looks awesome

  • awesome look :)

  • good job, looks cool

  • Smexay

  • agreed

  • Cool! Can you do more system mod video's?

  • wow man that kool

  • Dont start calling them Gennys, PLEASE dont start calling them Gennys :(

  • would you be willing to sell one of you model 1 gennys i cant find one and its very frustrating.

  • what the crap? You can take the red part of the circle out?! Oh man, I have some work to do! :D

  • all of mine are painted, not detachable, did you do that yourself with a saw or something?

  • If you cheak Consolepassion's channel and video, You can change L.E.D colour into PAL and Japanese. cheack out his video

  • nice video

  • Awesome mod Jake! Thanks for sharing.. She looks sexy...

  • I have an european Dreamcast system with a blue logo instead of an orange one, but the LED is still orange. I wish I could change it into a blue one so they'll match.

  • Cool, I've got a multi-coloured L.E.D. but I am yet to decide what to put it in.

  • Videos like these are why I subscribe. Awesome job!

  • Awesome job man. got a modle 1 genny myself that im looking to mod with s video. never thought about the led though until now lol

  • I think I have that HP computer...what model is it?

  • Great work as always. I was impressed with the megadrive mod, still looks pretty well factory minus the blackout and blue LED. Every time I see one of these videos i'm stoked to go visit the local Value Village or whatever and try to find one. I'll eventually get one somehow.

  • Wow, that's awesome.

  • nice led.plus genesis can play imported games.sweet

  • So is that the 1609? If so did you just break the little white clip off the board and then soldier the wires on? Because all the 1609s I have opened have a clip so you can take the LED off with the greatest of ease. Now modding the mk-1601-22 would pose more challenge since the red plastic piece and the LED don't just come off as easy. But still wouldn't be that hard. Good video man. I like the blacked out look. You should do a model 2 next. Those LEDs are soldier right on to the board.

  • Oh wait I think I see the bottom half of the white clip thing now. So is that the 1609 then?

  • This system had been opened and tinkered with before (not by me I mean whoever had it in the past) and they had the LED wires joined to new wires hooked up somehow. I assume they broke the white plastic piece off.

  • The video camera isn't doing much justice. You should post pics of that mod, MN12BIRD!

  • can all the genesis play the mega drive games? I have a genesis model 1(with no logo of the high defintion) and a sega model 2....Can I mod them to play mega drive games??? by the way this video is awesome......keep it up

  • nice job.

  • That's bitchin' \m/

  • thats awesome

  • MN12, you'r vids are always good to watch.

I'd never even try to fix it, but you did.

    You're very enthusiastic. That's a good quality.

Looking forward to you'r next videos.

  • Cool video. You should paint it some wild color to really make it looks unique

  • That looks great!

I probably would've went crazy with the white paint and make the whole unit white, just for kicks. :P

  • Supposedly it's also very simple to overclock the model 1 (at least the early ones with the DIP 68000), only needing wire, solder, and a switch.

  • Hrm cool. I've heard of people overclocking the Genny but I wasn't sure how hard it would be or what real world advantages it would give you. What are they mainly doing it for?

  • I haven't done it myself, but there's a lot of info on sega-16. The simple ones to mod are the Model 1's with the DIP 68k, basicly just soldering a wire from pin 15 to pin 15B of the cartrige connector (which has a 13.4 MHz signal which the 68k is very stable at), you have to include a switch to boot up in 7.67 MHz mode or you can get some glitches, mostly with sound. (some games won't work at all)

The Modle 2 with the QFP 68k isn't stable over 10 MHz, and I'm not sure about the QFP M1's.

  • The advantage comes in reducing slowdown, in 2D games like Sonic 2 with many moving strites on screen. (esp a bunch of enemies and rings flying after getting hit)

It should also help in games like Hard Drivin, Race Drivin,F-15 Strike Eagle II, MiG-29, Zero Tolerance, Cyber Cop, and Battle Frenzy. (the EA polygonal games like F-22 interceptor may not work due to the use of the Z80 as a coprocessor)

  • mn12bird, im from the uk n i always watch your vids n deanothelegend87 vids as well n i jus have to say that u both know ur stuff n u both rock totally

  • wow.. nice work on the corners,, i remember as a kid just stabbing my mega drive with a chisel to snap those corners off,, made my md rattle,, hey but it played Japanese games.

  • YEah that works too :_)

  • nice job, I think an all white paint job would be cool, and go over the 16 bit logo with a silver sharpie or paint pen to give it the chrome look again.

  • I wonder what would happen if you put a mega drive on a sega cd. or put a genisis on a mega cd. cool mod

  • what is the difference between a model one genesis that has the "high definition graphics" and one that doesn't?

  • Usually better sound quality and the possibility of a TMSS free system (plays a few games mainly bootlegs the others wont) and it boots up a few second faster.

  • cool, because I found one someone was throwing out with a few games (most notably sonic 2 with a megadrive logo).

  • cool ill have to take the notches out mine to play japenese games,i didnt think it was that simple but hell its as easy as doing the snes mod

  • My copy of Darius II has wider round parts on the cart, and I had to shave a tiny bit from the rounded edge of the slot to get it to fit. I also took off a tiny bit of material on the long flat edges since they seemed to be a bit of a close fit.

  • you seem to out do yourself in every vid!!!! Interesting video!!!!

  • Jake dont get all mad because of billy bob thorton, he wasnt talkin about you man.. canadians rule! and the white canadian girls are hot

  • verry nice

  • Blue so much cooler than red, nice mod.

  • That's awesome. you could add some av and s video next maybe.

  • nice

  • Great vid.

    MOOOOOAR

  • Looks awesome.

  • pretty!! :D 5/5

  • Thats pretty cool you could give that away in a competion i imagine alot of people would die to have that baby

  • Pretty awesome dude

  • I never liked the changing of the "16 Bit" font on the Western models, loved the style of the Japanese one.

  • Yeah I hear ya the Japanese Model 1 looks great! I saw one here locally for sale in the box and passed it up. The price wasn't a super deal or anything but I guess it was fair. Kinda wish I grabbed it now!

  • I'd say you're better off looking on eBay for a Japanese one, There's some really cheap ones on the market.

There's also a Hong Kong version which'll switch PAL and NTSC games.
