  • ANY GM/Dodge/Toyota under the same conditions would have been blown 30 seconds into the video. Ford 300i6 is one of the toughest motors ever built.

  • toyota 22r was a bad motor. it would take this abuse. so would the mitsubishi 2.6 that was in my old ram 50, THAT motor was a bad unit. 300 sixs arent the toughest motor by far, they simply dont make enough power to wear themselves out. thats why they run reliably, and it seems, forever. just like the old ford 240 inline six. when they do fuck up, most of the time its the rings, or headgasket blew due to overheatin.

  • @nemesisneon10 The I6 doesn't make a lot of power in terms of horsepower, but it more than makes up for it in torque. These things were like a diesel in comparison to HP/Torque, and toughness. definitely one of the toughest engines out there.

  • @supersnot4 i know they had like what 80hp and 300 ft lbs of torque? i had a couple of trucks with the 300 six. i liked it okay. they never gave me any problems otther than oil leaks lol. i gotta 84 f250 now with the 351w. 4x4 granny. i like it alot better. 300 sixs are good motors but i just like v8's. im not big on diesels. to me theres just nothin like a rumblin old school v8.

    I do love v-8s though. Right now I've got two of them, my '89 f-250 2wd 302, and my '87 f-250 4X4 460. Love the sound of both of 'em, and especially the power for pulling. My friend has no problem pulling his trailer with his i6 though. It's not a light trailer, and he has to drove it hard to get it going, but she just keeps on chugging.

    Not sure. 5500 is a rough number. I weighed it at a recycle center full of scrap, then empty so that they would know exactly how much scrap I brought... The empty weight was like 5455 or something like that.

  • ford don't suck and 300 inline 6 cannot die, they are known to last well over 500k miles, i used to have a 88 ford van with 300 inline 6 engine, and it runs like a top, sold it for the engine , tranny, and the differental, because the van was rusted out badly and the engine has only 154k miles, and i was the 2nd owner, the 1st owner was from taylor university, and was fleet maintained, that is why i bought it, cuz i know it was taken care of, and the van has 94k miles before i bought it

    Abuse and overheating.

    Abuse entails > 7,000 RPM, overheating entails neglecting the water pump and letting the head warp and/or head gasket fail.

    The 300 is an engine that just does not stop if you take care of it and don't abuse it.

    The bottom end could do it if it's got decent rod bearings and stellar oil pressure. The valve springs simply won't support it, they're too soft, and the cam grind is for torque at low RPM, so that won't either.

  • My first vehicle was an 85 with the 300. in two year i went through 8 sets of rear tires and 2 rear ends. i tried and tried and tried to kill that truck. it was indestructible. i gave it away and its still used as a work horse to this day. damn i miss it..

  • I know the 300 is a torque motor, but you're not paying attention... The 5.9L turbo Cummins has 460 ft/lbs of torque BEFORE 2,800 RPM. The truck had a towing capacity of 16,000 lbs. I could spin 35" BFGoodrich All Terrains in third gear with the brakes on FROM A STOP.

  • I've owned a Cummins, and a Ford 300... The 300 is stout, but the Cummins is insane... I had the Getrag 5 speed and I could do a brakestand from a dead stop in third gear no problem... I love my Ford 300I6, but it can NEVER hold a candle to the Cummins..... Sorry.

  • just like to add, that my Cummins was a 1990 with 460 ft lbs of torque before 2,800 RPM. I had Rancho RS5000 shocks and BFGoodrich All-Terrains on GMC 8 lug 16" rims. Dana 4:10 axles. My Ford 300 has a Ford 9" rear, and 4 on the floor. The Cummins just has tons more torque, much lower gears, and about a ton or so over the Ford...

  • i have the 300 in my 96...when i bought it it idled really rough, and had lean condition, random missfires, you name it. turns out 4 out of the 6 cylinders had the vlave guides rammed into the top of the head, 4 broken valve springs, burnt valves...the bottem end was mint tho...when i took off the head to have it milled, and rebuilt.he could not believe that the engine would turn over...i had driven it like that foe 2 years. never let me down once!

  • lol cant kill em. :D Not easily anyway. I finally killed one after locking and unlocking the motor four or five times untill it would just no longer run. Knocked like hell thought the process.

    When we finally took the motor out to swap it, we realized why it would no longer run..... the carb was loose. :D

  • They dont get any better than the 300 six. The lube shop forgot to tighten the drain plug on my brothers van, started bogging down on the way home on the freeway he made it home without oil, filled it up and the dam thing still is going strong has over 230,000 on it and does not burn any oil!

  • Oh, and one more thing, I have one of these engines in a fully restored truck just like yours, that I built with Clifford performance parts 6=8, look them up sometime, and see what you could have had. My pickup was dyno tested yesterday, with 118 octane gas at 472hp and 653 ftlbs of torque. And, just so you know, it redlines at 5400rpms. Please stop destroying that poor truck. It deserves someone way better than you.

  • The carbureted 300 can't wind out to 6K. It is a true truck engine where horsepower peaks at 3000 - 3400 RPM depending on year (thus you might get 4K out of it free-rev). HP may only be 110-120, but torque is around 250 at a 1600RPM!!!! Keep in mind that a true truck engine is built to be hammered on, and the 300 was dropped into a lot of dump trucks as well.

  • I got the truck for free and im not a ford lover so i tryed to sieze it or make it kick a rod.. w/e. I had just got done doing a longer burn out right before i taped this one. The temp needle was PEGGED... Only reason i stoped was because I didnt want sparks from the tire steel starting a fire.
