Turns out Arrested Development was canceled because the writers and actors had bigger things to move on to. In case you hadn't noticed, with all the actors being big names now, appearing in Juno, Handcock, and other new TV series.
Family Guy however lost all of it's humor years ago, and now is just political agendas being pushed unsubtly that may catch a hint of wit every now and then.
Actually, it was canceled because it was marketed poorly, thus less people tuned in to FOX to watch it, hence it got low ratings and was canceled.
Also, Michael Cera was the only person to do anything of merit after Arrested Development with Superbad, but even then, he was typecast with forgettable roles after that. Will Arnett did nothing of interest, and Jason Bateman did a few mediocre roles. Arrested Development was easily the best things they ever did.
@tetrisclock Jessica Walters is now doing Archer, which is a pretty popular show, Will Arnett has had a recurring role on 30 Rock, the one who played Tobias is a successful stand up comedian, Jeffrey Tambor is in the Hellboy series is a recurring character on Archer and was in the Hangover, which was a great comedy. How are these nothing?

1. Family guy was excellent prior to their cancellation (seasons 1-3).
2. Arrested Development was and probably still is the best written ongoing sitcom and was consistently funny. Any AD episode at random has more talent put into it than any Family guy episode (even during their prime).

This is horrible parody because the shows are worlds apart. Family Guy is a crude comedy that relies on a disjointed plot in every episode. The show should have been cancelled years ago, but its only redeeming quality was its controversial jokes which were not funny. @The1CamBo I never really thought of it that way, but I suppose you could look at it that way. While yes AD is about "the one son," I needed to time the opening so that a "son" (Chris Griffin) synced up with the voiceover. I suppose I could have just as easily made it Stewie. Trivial.
Besides, we see the "Peter Griffin" title first, and every subsequent title card uses the word "his [daughter, best friend], connecting the family. So no, "his wife" implies Peter's wife, just like on Family Guy.

Turns out Arrested Development was canceled because the writers and actors had bigger things to move on to. In case you hadn't noticed, with all the actors being big names now, appearing in Juno, Handcock, and other new TV series.
Family Guy however lost all of it's humor years ago, and now is just political agendas being pushed unsubtly that may catch a hint of wit every now and then.

Actually, it was canceled because it was marketed poorly, thus less people tuned in to FOX to watch it, hence it got low ratings and was canceled.
Also, Michael Cera was the only person to do anything of merit after Arrested Development with Superbad, but even then, he was typecast with forgettable roles after that. Will Arnett did nothing of interest, and Jason Bateman did a few mediocre roles. Arrested Development was easily the best things they ever did.

@tetrisclock Jessica Walters is now doing Archer, which is a pretty popular show, Will Arnett has had a recurring role on 30 Rock, the one who played Tobias is a successful stand up comedian, Jeffrey Tambor is in the Hellboy series is a recurring character on Archer and was in the Hangover, which was a great comedy. The reason AD was cancelled because the people who made the show wanted to end it before it got repetitive and unfunny.
Repetitive and unfunny. Hmm.
Now what is Family guy into its 8th season now? The Simpsons approaching it's 20th? Then again The Simpsons was at least consistently funny for some period... Family Guy has only about 2 seasons of good material spread over a decade with unfunny padding and liberal douche-baggery in between.

@Treblaine The whole last (half) season of Arrested Development is filled with Ron Howard begging the viewer to make his or her friends watch the show too so it doesn't get cancelled. I really don't think the writers and actors were on their last legs creatively, 2.5 seasons in. I try to make myself not imagine how much better the world would be if the show had been allowed to continue... *shudder*

Here comes the truth train:
1. Family guy was excellent prior to their cancellation (seasons 1-3).
2. Arrested Development was and probably still is the best written ongoing sitcom and was consistently funny. Any AD episode at random has more talent put into it than any Family guy episode (even during their prime).
3. Starting from season 4, Family guy's writing quickly became "dumber" and continues to get dumber today, and is now simply unwatchable.

@jamesmontalbano because the general public are too dumb to get most of the jokes without "awkward" pauses (which for family guy is usually just to pad out a 22 minute episode because they are so short on ideas).
Now family guy is a pretty good show... if about 75% of the content was cut out as it is just filled with so much un-funny filler.
Or adopt the Robot Chicken model of just send so many jokes so thick and fast but then FG could only do about 100 minutes per season.

@jamesmontalbano Wrong. Paying actors and paying for sets WAY more expensive than paying for animation (not that animation is cheap). Things like wardrobe, food, rehearsal...not needed in animation. FOX took FG back mostly because of the fan interest but largely(I know largely and mostly = way more than 100%) due to cost. Such is our 21st century world... Oh so differett from previous centuries . i hope you caught the sarcasm, You not being an AD fan I wasn't sure.

@jamesmontalbano Actually, no, I don't think FOX would bring it back. Family Guy got brought back because it's like the Simpsons; old, funny, familiar. AD was and still IS incredibly popular. Hence why they're making a MOVIE out of it. FOX cancelled it because they decided that they should try and TOP Arrested Development's already booming rating. Which failed; numerous times. Here we are however many years later, though.

Family guy saved itself and came back on air because of it's high DVD sales, and it is AD's fault it was canceled. Nonetheless, it's easy to make stupid jokes that the average american will understand, hence the high dvd sales. AD fans are zealots who love the fact that the show was carefully crafted, and it wasn't a perfect show, but it was the closest to such a concept.

This is horrible parody because the shows are worlds apart. Family Guy is a crude comedy that relies on a disjointed plot in every episode. The show should have been cancelled years ago, but its only redeeming quality was its controversial jokes which were not funny. I hardly think the writers for Family Guy would ever be able to wrap their minds around how to parody a higher quality show like Arrested Development.

@The1CamBo I never really thought of it that way, but I suppose you could look at it that way. While yes AD is about "the one son," I needed to time the opening so that a "son" (Chris Griffin) synced up with the voiceover. I suppose I could have just as easily made it Stewie. Trivial.
Besides, we see the "Peter Griffin" title first, and every subsequent title card uses the word "his [daughter, best friend], connecting the family. So no, "his wife" implies Peter's wife, just like on Family Guy.

I love Arrested Development and Family Guy, but neither make me laugh - just smile.
I would say the moment of TV comedy that I've laughed at most (and I've seen far too many hours of it) would be Black Books, series 1, "Grapes of Wrath" (ep 3). My tummy was so sore afterwards, but I've never laughed so much at any other telly.

Family guy is a great show too, but the acting and writing in AD was phenomenal. You may not like the show just because people are pitting it against family guy but its apples and oranges.
