  • Wow, those are nice sounding pipes. Very bright sound! Great video.

  • Urm..The High A in this clip is just about perfect. There is still a school of thought that it's a good idea to have the High A sounding a tad flat. I don't subscribe to that. Listen to any professional player today. The High A is pitched exactly in tune with the rest of the chanter. That's just what Martin achieves here.

  • @Riperpiper

It is almost perfect, it's a bit sharp because he seems to be overblowing the tiniest tad possible. It is very good though.

  • what's the name of the first song?

  • @PEIDanielScott Song???? I listened for the full 3:32 but didn't hear a song. The first TUNE however was called Duncan Johnstone.

  • @rabnuds

Ah, I'm sorry for not using the correct term. Thank you for telling me the name of the tune.

  • Duncan would have been proud....

  • I play Duncan Johnstone with loads more grace notes than that (the way it is in the Scots Guards book.) Also It's slightly too fast in my opinion but not too bad.

  • ah lets not ask for their videos, they are probably already all over the internet as these people are most certainly world famous professionals. im going by their expert judging skills. but look on the bright-side, if these folks said it to the guys face he would just punch them.

  • OOOOO, I love the first tune...

  • This has to be one of my fave tunes on pipes and my name's DUNCAN!!!

  • Very well executed!

  • Great job on the Rally. Excellently played!

  • this is why i like it when a high A crows a little

his A is getting lost in the drones

  • i would say what a great performance and

played with great finger control, i would say that it was played straight but no way rounded.

  • Great performance, great fingering, but the jig is a bit rounded. The phrase endings are rushed and it would sound better if there were a slight emphasis at the end of each phrase, especially the last phrase. Its like the part never has a chance to end before he's into the next one.

  • Pretty good, high a really puts this performance down though :(

Not sure I would compete with those 2 particular tunes unless i arranged them so they weren't played round.

  • His high A was perfect. The performance was brilliant.

  • He was pulsing the jig just fine to me. It did not seem perfectly round at all.

  • if its so easy can you send me the link to your performance? Cheers

  • This is excellent.

  • Toughest part of memorizing Fiddler's Rally is the memory. 8 parts, no repeats, that's a lot of music to learn.

  • what a wonderful tune one day ill play it not as good as this chap

  • Duncan Johnstone is so fun to play on fiddle!

    I love the song

  • hi, i really want to learn fiddlers rally, can u send me the music? or tell mea site that i can download it from:) thx ( nice playing btw )

  • Listen to Ryan Canning's first set on you tube for a great rendition of fiddlers rally

  • okay thank u!

  • what one? hornpipe or jig?

  • Fiddlers Rally.

  • Start of the hornpipe sounds a bit like Bulgarian Bandit don't you think?

  • It is not a hard tune and if you think its hard its 2 advanced for you!!

  • wots dat hornpipes name????? ne1 no???

  • haha, iv got the music... indirectly from the man himself... Gordon W

  • the jig is composed by ian campbell. gordon renamed it and everyone thinks its his tune even gordon

  • He missed an E gracenote in the triplet in the 1st bar of the 3rd part of Fiddler's Rally :P

  • Was that the only one you noticed? :)

  • @vikkienguyen quite a lot was missed in the first 2 barsof the 3rd part.but no dis-respect thats a bloody hard part to play.

  • fiddler's rally is a grade 1 piece so yeh it is hard

  • it is once you get the deferent parts down.

i can play the hell out of it on the small pipes and PC, but i have difficulties in some parts on the GHB's.

  • does anyone know where i can find fiddlers rally? that tune is impossible to find

  • He does an incredible job on the Fiddlers Rally. That's a really tough piece, i've got it about 1/2 to 3/4 memorized and down.

    man on the last part

  • what is the name of the jig?

  • Fiddlers Rally

  • the scottish fiddle orchestra

  • It is really wonderful to know pipers and documents as this one.

I am very grateful, a friend! GIL (Channel papigil)

  • shotts tune 2 482!!!

but i suposse for solo i tune flatter so

  • Thanks for all of your comments. I agree with most opinions regarding the High 'A'. Don't think anybody has spotted the mistake yet!!!!!!

  • Hmmmmm, in the second part of Fiddlers Rally there is a note error (C instead of E, but it works) and the beginning of the 3rd part he misses a whole bunch of graenotes on the low hand as well but recovers on the repeat. A bit of tape on high a and it's a pretty damn good performance. In competition it's how well you play and how poorly everyone else plays:-)

  • OK, perhaps I'm wrong on the note error, it's there but I can't quite place what's going on;-)

  • Taking into consideration that was my 5 performance of the morning so I was starting to get tired. Listen to the repeat of the 2nd part of Duncan Johnstone!

  • Well done, nice relaxed!very good rythm.

    Good luck.

  • GREAT TUNES WELL PLAYED!

  • Well, you also have to remember that if you were in the room, it would probably sound pretty good. But since the camera is recording it, the sound disperses before it all reaches that mic...at least I think. I am in no way an expert on the workings of cameras and sound from music, maybe it would sound good.

  • little flatt

  • awsome great tone and rock solid on the rhythm and great music.

  • often you will find that also a video recorder sometimes can't handle all the sound. I think this is the case with this video.

    Great piping though

  • wher can I get the music for the "Fiddler's Rally".

  • The tune is not in the public domain. Google "pipetunes" as one word, first link is a music database where you can pay per tune download.

  • awesome piping!!!!!!

  • used to stay next to johnstone family in glasgow-he offered to teach me pipes when i was kid-what a mistake missing out on that offer-best scots piper EVER

  • It's even more conspicuous in the headphones.

  • Fine playing, were can i get the sheet music for the hornpipe

  • You can get the music for Duncan Johnstone in Scots Guards Volume II page 154 tune#774. Now i'm off to find fiddler's rally.
