  • Fuck this is a stupid game

  • Hockey is for canadians and queers. Wait. my bad its the same thing. Faggot queers, and wife beating russians.

  • I have to wonder if Kevin Stevens would have had his injury reduced if he had worn a half-visor. I'm actually surprised that Rich Pilon (who racked up nearly 1800 PIMs in his career) wore a visor.

  • I liked Stevens, but he was going for a late hit, there was an icing and he could have avoided the collision, he left his feet after the whistle, Pilon was certainly willing to take it but that didn't cause the injury. Stevens just landed on his face. They had bad blood all series, some epic physical battles for position in front of and around the net.

  • @NPRMc wasnt a late hit. he was aleady about to make contact as the whistle blew. Also he left his feet after contact was made.

  • i remembe watching this & how anybody cld wish this on any player i will nvr understand. Kevin was a great player b4 this happened to him & I do believe it ended his career. All u pen haters only wish your team had 1/2 the talent we have over the years! There r a lot of players I dislike from ur teams but I wld nvr wish this on any of them!

  • Why can't something like this happen to Crosby? Shit.

  • sad

  • Absolutely brutal injury. He had one more pretty good season after this, but I think this was the beginning of the end for his career.

  • real educated guess there yup

  • they hit heads which concussed him and was out before he hit the ice. i know this is obvious, just sayin

  • To anyone who may be able to answer: Stevens once scored 123 pts while playing with Lemieux, his best total after being traded away from the Pens was 43. Every single guy who played alongside Gretzky or Lemieux during their careers obviously scored more points with them than without, but Stevens' performance descreased ridiculously. Was it this injury that ruined him or was he never really that good and just benefiting from playing with Lemieux? I wouldn't know cus I never watched him play.

  • @gymguy25

that's an interesting question. certainly playing alongside lemieux really helps to inflate any players stats, including those of Kevin Stevens. However, Stevens was one of the star players who was able to step up in Lemieux's absence due to injury in the 1992 playoffs, therefore demonstrating he could play without. So I'd say this injury had a dramatic impact on his career.

  • when i was little i fell face first to ice, of course not even close to this speed, but I fell directly, not a bruise, cut or scratch lol

  • He was never the same again.

  • Stevens may have went down but ultimately a terrible mistake by Ulfie and David Volek finished them off! YES!!!

  • "He may of shattered some teeth"

He actually shattered the bones in his face Mike Lange, which required a full facial reconstruction and the insertion of a metal plate.

  • Hes my best friends dad. I was at the bruins game with him

  • lol knocked himself out on a check what a loser

  • @BitchBeTrollinHard how is he a loser? please explain. He's going in for a check and in the process hit the guy's visor, which knocked him out causing him to fall face first without being able to use his hands for protection. And Stevens was one of the best power forwards in the league behind Cam Neely and he makes his living throwing his body around and hitting people. This just happened to be a freak accident because this hardly ever happens.

  • @jbobbster hardly never happens cause no ones stupid enough to knock themselves out on a check...

  • @BitchBeTrollinHard There is nothing stupid about it. it's a freak accident for a reason. so i'm guessing football players who get injured while trying to make a normal tackle are stupid, too?

  • @jbobbster yes

  • Well first of hordichuck Lange, to that point, had been broadcasting from the late 60s early 70s and was making an educated guess based on Stevens previous injuries.

@terickson82 - Spot on. Had Stevens been available that is a totally different game. I pointed to that injury the night it happened while watching with my hockey teammate.

  • Just saw him shopping at target in Hanover Mass this morning

  • KJELL!!! Go Pens!

  • ahhh thats how hockey should be played in the old days loved it so much better than now.. on a much sadder note i feel sorry for stevens

  • @iCh3rry7 he was never the same after that. Had one more decent season the next year, but his production declined steeply after that.

  • @jbobbster its kinda scary that so many players have lost the rest of their careers to injuries

  • he Ironically fell in front of the US Healthcare ad lol

  • "He broke his nose. He broke his nose that's what he did...I'll bet he broke his nose."

  • 1:44 look at that illegal visor that guy had. damn

  • @liesinpale illegal visor? O.o

how the hell is any visor that protects your face illegal? you dumbass

  • @wpchief11 take it easy bro, I was just jokin

  • @liesinpale i was just sayin. i watch this video and read the comments everytime im on youtube cuz my dad is in it

  • @wpchief11 Who is your dad ???

  • @efile4zaggin100 the medical trainer lol. Corky Osborn.

  • I hear Lemeiux went into shock because normally it would be he who would lie on the ice like he had been shot. Then again, Stevens suffered a legit injury. Unlike Mario, who made a 2nd career of using his name and talent to buy him penalites.

  • commentators obv has a PHD in medicine.

  • "He broke his nose. Thats what he did" OMG I hate American commentators!

    He broke the whole face...

  • @strutspojken1337 Mike Lange is one of the best announcers EVER.

  • KO win visor!

  • " He broke his nose, that's what he did. He broke his nose...... I'll bet he's got a broken nose."

  • i remember that game oh so well. what a rough way for the champs to go down, and the front page pf the paper he next day had a pic of him on the front page on the stretcher and read DOWN AND OUT

  • This is one of the worst injuries I've ever seen in my 28 yrs of watching hockey (only thing worse was seeing a guy's jugular cut with a skate blade) . Kevin was a force & it's really to bad that this ended his career.

  • @PittsPenguins66 he played almost ten more years after this.

  • @tjackson76 He was never the same player again, though.

  • @stevedrums thats right, but it didn't end his career

  • "and now they're checking his mouth. he may have shattered some teeth too"

...yeah, and also his nose, his jaw, his cheekbones, and his forehead...that was a tremendous impact for a face to take

  • I remember when this happened thinking it was not that serious. (He was up and talking) but he was never the same player again (he was a 50 goal - 100 point player at the time). Stevens actually shattered most of the bones in his forehead. Doctors had to make an ear to ear cut and implant steel plates and he took over 100 stiches. End of a bright young career and a sudden end to a Penguin dynasty in the making, they had won back to back cups but would not win another until Crosby came along.

  • "He broke his nose, I think he broke his nose, he broke his nose!" LOL, the best line ever?

  • I remember this, the most frightening thing I've seen in a game. Not as scary as Malarchuks injury, but I only saw that years later here on youtube.

  • I seriously doubt that a visor will absorb all the impact of an head on collision, like the commentator said.

  • @Biggmofo he's saying if they both had visors it wouldnt have been so bad. if artie was wearing a visor he probably wouldn't have been knocked out.

  • The day Stevens' career ended.

  • @razorslice17 Sad but true :( He was never the same again.

  • Pilon wore a visor because he had a prior eye injury.

  • fedor vs arlovski

  • I'm a die-hard isles fan, but no one wants to see this. You have to wonder what Stevens career would have been like if this never happened. he did have a great year after this 41 goals, 47 assists

  • @trulysarcastic - also have to wonder how that game would have ended up since at that time Stevens was a huge part of the Penguins offense.

  • I wonder if he was doing the cocaine and prostitute thing before this happened? Hitting that part of your head hard enough is said to be able to change your personality.

  • Reason #1 why no touch icing should be the next rule implemented.

  • why do all hockey players get hurt below Health or hospital ads?

  • Karma for not wearing a visor

HE JUST GOT KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT!!!

  • Quit laying on the ice like a broad Stevens!! You pussy!!!

  • @LeafsFlamesAndOilers haha love it - Karma is a bitch isn't it? nice comment - if anyone doenst know what he means - listen to Stevens chirping Bellows the yr before

  • @LeafsFlamesAndOilers hahahha ya dont mess with guys from st louis saskatchewan

  • @LeafsFlamesAndOilers You r a piece of shit. Ask your mom how her asshole feels tho. I felt it rip u fag...

  • Well that's another reason why you shouldn't leave your feet when you hit

  • ...and this is where all the hookers and crack started.

  • the problem is that he didn't smoke enough crack before attempting this hit

  • it's so hard to learn how to ice skate, I always fall down ass flat.

  • Ha ha healthcare

  • Comment removed

  • Who cares, whats it have to do with the video. Do want a cookie?

  • Was never the same player after that

  • damn that is brutal

  • its a shame cuz that was a fucking filthy hit

  • Mike Lange is God!

  • ....a visor? .... theres nothing that can protect u from a guy from st. louis saskatchewan. pilon was mvp of this series!

  • Stevens was never the same agressive player he once was after that....

  • Yikes! You have to wonder how Rich Pilon DIDN'T get hurt in that exchange.

This ranks just below the accidental injuries of Richard Zednik and Clint Malarchuk for cringe-inducing; none of them were intentional.

  • ummm ouch

  • Francis, Stevens and Lemieux. Those were the days. I miss them. Kevin was never the same after this :( Paul Steigerwald and Mike Lange were good friends with Kevin and their voices are inflected with genuine concern.

  • this happened in 1993, they were talking about visors then. It's still NOT mandatory and it's still heavily debated today, 16 years later.

  • @LacrosseBoss i think Stevens started wearing a visor after this, although he went back to not wearing one

  • re-watching the video, I'm not sure a visor would've even helped this scenario though. He was out cold from the hit before falling to the ice. Then, while unconscious, his face slammed the ice. No guarantees a visor would've saved a serious injury. May have helped but I am not sure.

  • im a good friend of pilon, lol, stevens went after him and payed the price....

  • commentator: '' i have a feeling stevens will be back in this game, after maybe a brief spell in the locker room''

HIS FUCKING FACE PLANTED INTO SOLID ICE WITH THE FORCE OF HIS 100KG BODY

  • Mike Lang probably said that since Stevens was a tough player who had played with injuries before, and also to attempt to calm the viewers.

  • yeah u just knew that there was something weird going on in this game. The Islanders weren't backing down form the pens, and then Stevens got hurt on a freak accident. Stevens, along with Cam Neeley, was probably one of the best power forwards of his era, but a freak injury, and he was never the same player.

  • What a dumbass. Probably coked up.

  • stevens was unconscious before he even hit the ice!

  • I remember this hit, I think I still have the newspaper article of this.

Later on, I think in 97, Stevens fought Pilon. The two were later teammates in NYR later on.

  • MAN this is SICK!!!! i turned pale and allmost threw up and i allmost fainted lol......stop spreading thes sick videos on youtube....

  • It says INJURY, did you expect flowers & sunshine?

  • If you don't like videos entitled 'Face injury', simply don't watch.

  • such a shame, fuck..

  • Stevens was the most dominant power forward in the game at the time and this pretty much ended that. Same thing with Lindros, when Kaspy drilled Lindros, slowly Lindros became weaker and weaker.

  • That and the crack.

  • Yeah that too. It was very disappointing to learn he had that problem, next to Lemieux Stevens was my favorite. He was so fearless and had the best hands around the net.

  • you are right on.

  • Oh my god! That was brutal.

  • The play that killed Kevin Stevens career, I was crushed when this happen Pens have been my favorite team since birth and I loved Kevin Stevens. :(

  • The game turned after this....they made a valiant comeback, but this is where the game was lost.

  • Shit! I remember this!

I was nine, and it scared the crap out of me.

  • good call on the strange MASH music. let's not forget that the theme was called "suicide is painless." yikes!

a tragic hit, but Pilon was an Isles legend....

  • Holy shit..That made me cringe.

  • anyone else notice the organ playing the theme from M*A*S*H on this?

  • makes me nauseuous every time I see this one. Face first into the ice. Nasty.

  • yea well, it would hurt like hell too, he had an ass load of stiches in his face after that one, and he was never the same after this, he was afraid to hit people, homestly, before this he was really great.

  • i believe the surgery consisted of them peeling back his face from jaw to jaw along the scalp in order to repair all of the facial fractures he suffered.

one of the best power forwards in the game at the time

damn shame, he was never the same player after this

  • Yea...had my friend explain this one to me once...cut him from ear to ear along the jaw bone, peeled back the skin along his face to reconstruct his face.

  • You gotta wonder what the outcome of the game would have been, if not for this...

What a player Artie was for the Penguins.

  • Was never the same player after that

  • at least it was from a solid forecheck....that is effort right there
