@vaju79 yeah if there is a strong enough solar flare it could end us. But we are really far away from the Sun, plus we still have our Ozone Layer for now. And the Sun is in a great age its not too old.
I learned earlier this week that the corona is like 1 million degrees celscius and the surface of the sun is 5500 degrees. And this is a mystery to astronomers. Whats up with this? Why not solved?
@CognosSquare On the surface (no pun intended) the corona being hotter suggests a violation of the 2nd law of thermodynamics. After all, how can something that is so "cool" heat up its surroundings by several orders of magnitude? Wiki for "Coronal heating problem" for theories that try to reconcile this.
@MrDudeBoiMan I am not a scientist but I don't think it would hurt anyone except maybe people on polar flights & those on the ISS. HOWEVER, it could wipe out our electrical grid sending us back to the 1800s which would end up with who knows how many people dying & a potential breakdown in society depending on how long the power was down. I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong but I think for the most part I am correct.
Do a trick video sequel to this and say "Up close picture of Atom" and see what people say. We live next to a ball of gas and at this magnification it makes you think about the scale of the universe/cosmos and what or how small of something did we really come from.
@elar55 Wow! Phil Plait must be so tired of reading these moronic comments LOL. Seriously go look up his previous videos, top comments are always about the sun farting or chuck norris visiting the sun. Its as if everyone was fucking 5 years old LOL
not earth directed? damn would love to see an emp bomb go off from the sun and mess with the electronics including to mess with the Banks machines and voting machines. That would force us to vote the old fashioned way.
And that, kids, is how X-Men were born.
