I would be concerned that shaking the pencil will break the lead. Also it seems like it does not reliably move the lead out like other mechanical pencils. And, it does not control how far the lead comes out. Because it does not add a new feature or perform an existing function as well as existing products it fails to innovate.

the original by SHARP had a spiral drive.

you had to keep turning the eraser to push new lead out.

all the new versions are Collet-clutch type devices.

I'm afraid it wasn't even the Germans who made the first one. The first patent for a mechanical pencil was to a British guy in 1822 (Sampson Mordan).
