  • do you still use this truck for business? what is the useful life of a tractor? it seems that companies trade in their trucks every few years, but at my work i see a few oldies come in, some old macks, volvos and peterbilts. It seems that to save money companies would just replace engines/transmissions rather than buying new trucks.

  • A company will cost out a tractor for tax purposes in 10 years or less. An owner operator who maintains his own stuff to a high standard can make a tractor last almost indefintely. The problem is when the government comes in and obsoletes your truck for you with EPA and CARB regs. No this one was bought to be a restoration project and pull RV's.

  • The transmission sounds like a supercharger!

  • Ive got a 79 w900a here in Australia. Its got a series 60 in it. 570 hp at the wheels running 50Ibs of boost with aftermarket computer and LPG gas.

  • 60 series in a w900a? thats kind of cool. I bet the jakes are loud.

  • Its got restrictive mufflers but its still loud.

  • Man i love the fuller whine! U gotta get more video of it howling! I remember my dad had a 82 Mack Superliner with a 13 speed. Let me tel ya, when it was in overdrive, that thing screamed!

  • It's a 15 speed now with much less howl. I like a nice whine as much as anyone but this was enough to overwhelm you. It got old very fast.

  • i just went to haul scrap with my dad today. its a 81 pete 359 has the 12513 speed in it. But it has the 3 position splitter. (Lo, Dir, OD) Its pretty good, one less finger(s) to use. Its not too bad when it comes to the howling part. not sure how many miles were on the tranny. But when it comes to climbing hills and takeing sharp corners while still in overdrive, it can get the a pretty good sound level.

  • Awesome looking and sounding truck. I wanna have one as a toy one day too. I love semi trucks. I think its the sound, the power, and the sound. If you don't mind me asking, do you have a Class A License?

  • Yes

  • Cool. Thanks for the response.

  • It is an antique. It pulls my RV and goes to shows. I am not a truck driver by profession.

  • why do u drive such an old truck ? no offence its cool but do you drive for a company or for fun?

  • I am a member of ATHS. The mission is to preserve old trucks. It doesn't work for a living anymore, just a big toy. It is all just for fun.
