  • brilliance....brilliance i tell you...

  • gone but not forgotten

  • I remember the first time I hear Minnie's beautiful voice, it was a hot summer night and I had the radio on. My two brothers were out in the streets hanging out with their girl friends and a friend's house party. The DJ played the whole LP Side A and Side B. I believe it was the summer of 1974. I loved this song as well as the whole LP, when I brought the LP the next day and took it to a party, folks loved it and tryed to steal it.....Minnie is one of a kind, sweet sweet soul.

  • EXCELLENT QUALITY ! ! ! both the singer and the recording.

    Couldn't be better. Thanks

  • This is beyond artistry this is the breath of life her voice will take you closer to the creator.

  • Minnie's voice gives me the chills when I hear her sing wishing she was still here making good music. She is truly a perfect angel.

  • You can actually hear her beautiful spirit through her voice.

  • beautiful

  • this song should be playing on every oldie station and way back wednesday set; this is a legitimate song; what song is more beautiful then this one?

  • "This is such a real classic indeed!" ... (smile) ...

  • thank you lakecia for sharing this song !

  • That's Stevie Wonder on piano (and also the arranger of the album

  • Ppl dont make shit like this no more

  • from the intro of the piano...your heart begins to melt.....what a beautiful and pure melody....just beautiful, this perfectly describes this song to me... when i found this song again it reminded me of when i was 7 or 8, i would just listen to this song and cry... when i found this song early this year i would listen to it and i couldnt make it through it without crying... I love this song... it embodies pure beauty to me :)

  • Not just greatness, pure genius....

  • my joint forever

  • @NickyNickG28 Minnie Riperton had a beautiful voice. It was something that was like an angel.Sad that she died so young.

  • Bought every album she ever did and each was better then the one before it. There will never be another voice like hers-pure, sweet, exquisite. RIP, Minnie.

  • Let us do give a nod to the heavenly voices in the background,,, not just any ol' do woppers: Minnie, Lani Groves, Shirley Brewer, Deniece Williams and Yvonne Wright (aka Syreeta).

  • this song really makes you think about everything going on in your life. I love her music and I oved her. I miss her deeply!

  • This is really really really beautiful - Minnie's voice was a one off - no one ever got to sing like her and never will as the Creator created a unique voice and heart that sped to mens hearts and cut through the pain to get to why they wanted to be born which was to sing the Creator's song

  • @Sal1675 Amen Sal. This song is so special. Thankyou!

  • I was a young boy of say 9 when I heard this and I cried and cried and cried. I heard it again at 16 when I found my brothers albums and remember that I went back to where I was at 9. This is THE song of the album. If the CREATOR could speak to us he chose Minnie through this song and im now much older but the song never aged and remains what defines me and I suppose most of humanity in its search for happiness love, contentment and meaning to the pains, trials and tribulations we face

  • what an Angel........ Your Spirit is Alive..... Your memory lives on, thank you for your inspiration

BORN: IN CHICAGO..... NOVEMBER 8, 1947..........

    DIED ; LOS ANGELES..... JULY 12, 1979

  • Get down Minnie! Your spirit is alive and well! I believe dreams do come true. It's been over 33 yrs ago. I thank God.

  • Get down Minnie! Your spirit is alive and well!

  • A soul so sweet a voice so golden- rip.

  • She's a nightinggale. <3

  • My GODbrother and I love this woman. We were just singing the verse "Merry-go-round without a sound." I credit Minnie with bonding me and Paul for life. Thanks, Minnie.

  • Let me add my "LIKE" to the 164 that preceded it. This song might not be my favourite of Minnie's (that would have to be "LOVIN' YOU"), but it certainly keeps her immortal soul alive in my heart. Beautiful, dreamy, lovely.

  • Minnie Ripleton was a " Perfect Angel."

  • have to hear my beautiful song by minnie ripperton

  • Just fills me with love for life itself.

  • Just fills me love foreverything and everyone.

  • @rwitherspoon33

    Amen my friend - amen

  • i love the ending of this song beautiful.

  • here's wishing every one bright and blessed futures!!!!! Ty, Nasi, Squiggles, and my new baby Cheriyah. Love Grandmama.

  • 30 years this has stayed in my heart since the first time I heard it. Its one of the most enigmatic pieces of music and is a landmark in ways that are subtle but profound. What you get is a veritable feast of heart, soul, the yearn for freedom which goes far beyond its initial reach- much further into the hearts of men and the constant battle to be true to own thine self and your spiritual destiny that awaits all if they are ready to grasp the nettles to smell and also create the rose.

  • Only one other person I could think of that could pull this song off & thats M Jackson.

  • @GETTHEDEUCE ?????? Rubbish

  • Minnie's tribute to Martin Luther King.

  • All I can say is this song is WONDERFUL and it captures the Minnie we've grown to love. God had bigger plans for her and we can't argue with him about his decision. Minnie would've been become a force to reckon with but her music/voice will live on forever.

  • @Vincent50 She was an angel Vincent. Simple.

  • first time ever hearing this song and it is beautiful! she was awesome

  • this song is magic.

  • Dis is a very touching song. its very emotional and meaningful. can you hear the power she draws in her voice when she sings "let freedom riiiiIiiing"

  • She is super, I love Minnie, what a huge, huge loss thankfully we have her voice

  • It really hurts so much to have lost her at such a young age.

  • This song makes a cold day feel like spring.Beautifully sung by a perfect angel.

  • from the intro of the piano...your heart begins to melt.....what a beautiful and pure melody....just beautiful

  • The great work of Joe Sample.

  • I have always adored this song. What makes me adore Minnie was the fact that she was all about exploring the mind that GOD gave us. I love the line "I see the LORD inside of everyone." Isn't that just simply beautiful?

  • Beautiful song! Just sliding through from some Blue Notes searching and out of nowhere found her... never knew about Minnie, glad I do now!

  • @FiLdUbz Minnie is awesome. If you like Minnie you would appreciate Corinne Bailey Rae. Corinne has 2 cds, but you would truly appreciate her 2nd cd.

  • You're absoloutly right. you will not only hear her on creepin buta you also hear her on it aint no use along with deniece williams. and on ordinary pain.

  • Minnie was more than "Lovin You". She wrote some great songs with her husband. Stevie Wonder loved her bird like vocals and he helped mix and produce this album. She tried to break away from having to be linked to Stevie for her success but it didn't work. You can clearly hear her on "Creepin" by Stevie.

  • Lost you too soon Minnie

  • I truly love all of her music and i hate that you cannot hear her music on the radio. it doesn't seem like its' been thirty years. her music is still great to listen to. may she live forever through her music. God Bless. B.M.W.

The Beautiful melodies the background just Simply Beautiful.

  • A real great singer i've always heard about her but never took the time to listen to her music! Better late than never they need to make a movie about her life because what I learnd about her she was a very interesting person! RIP

  • This song is absolutely stunning. My ex wife taped this for me before we got married and I instantly fell in love with this song. I remember this album being out back in the day but never bought it. What a song and so touching . Minnie was a spirit that God only kept here for a short time and what an impact she left on us. Long lives her great music.

  • shes' a true great artist way before her time

  • Wow, such a beautiful soul. Thank to tvone the Unsung cause I learned so much. The year of her passing in my birthday year I'm going on 30 with two kids I can only imagine what was going through her head. May she rest in peace. There's no one like her close to her cause she was one of a kind. Bring her back go buy her music. A fan

  • This is my favorite next to Loving You. I

taught my 6 year old daughter to Cha Cha

from this recording -- and danced with

her at her wedding to this beutiful song.

  • This is such pure beauty, I remember when Minnie died, I was 17 and I cried and cried, I still listen to her music because she is a perfect angel

  • aww what happended to her?

  • Minnie died of breast cancer I believe in 1977, she has been gone a long time, but, thankfully her music will live on and on, she was a great, great talent. With many of the advances in cancer, perhaps if she had lived today she could still be alive.

  • yes, this song is amazingly beautiful...i'd say it's my favourite one...

btw, she died in 1979 (31 years old...so sad!)

  • It is my favorite too, it is an amazing song. I hate to say this, but, I rarely hear music like this anymore, i am not saying it does not exisit, but, its rare.

  • She died on July 12, 1979.

You're so right, she was a great talent. So sad she went so young!

  • @Sal1675 i knwo how you feel she makes you feel her. she doesnt over sing either. she is truth

  • Pure of heart!

  • Such a gorgeous song. Was this ever a hit?

  • This was on the flip side of 'Loving You'. It could've easily stood on it's own though.

She was a Perfect Angel indeed.

  • Such a talented lady Ms. Minnie Ripperton was. Gone too soon, I used to visit her grave occasionally when I lived in LA. So hard to believe she left us so long ago. RIP.

  • ..ya kno ive never tripp'd on how provocative this album cover is ...like its really provocative!...in a perfect angel way..lolz..

  • Minnie Riperton had an spectacular voice. No one could out do her. RIP Minnie Riperton we miss you

  • who sampled this

  • minnie was so talented...

  • I'm listening to this song on the first day of Obama's presidency. Sitting on the edge of a dream.

  • My sentiments exactly. I hope President Obama's heart is as pure as this song and believe he is as noble as MLK was. Sitting on the edge of a dream;) peace

  • You guys are about to make me cry with your comments. I love the vibe of Minnie's songs as well as your comments. Have a good one.

  • magical

  • Well me back to my 45 record days. This song is on the flip side of Loving You. I use to play this song in my room which was down stair in the basement. I would play this song and several other songs that would sooth me to sleep. Oh to relive the the 70's and Douglass High in Baltimore.

  • Eiita nois!

  • MrMusikRnb;

Thank you for reminding me of what REAL music is and should sound like. If at all possible can you post "Its so nice to see old friends" from the Perfect Angel album.

Ah!! Now this is music..children,take note. .... Again thanks.

  • One of my all time favorites by Minnie. This song always makes me smile and dream lovely thoughts. It's like heaven. With Minnie and Deniece Williams as angels singing background and Stevie's Wonder-ful piano playing - it's sheer perfection. This song is very special. There is nothing like it before or since.

  • wonderful. Just wonderful . . .

  • this minnie ripperton song touches me to the core everytime. i thank GOD for her and the time HE shared her with us!! this song always brings peace to me. i used this song as part of my presentation in a mlk tribute workshop at an international boarding school on the outskirts of philly. guess what the kids got it!!!

R.I.P MINNIE WE'LL LOVE YOU FOR EVER......

  • Minnie is a woman.

  • WOW I remember my mother playing this song a lot when I was in kindegarten and first grade. Looking back I think she also played it because Minnie's voice would calm me down when I was hyper and would cheer me up when I was sad lol. My mother always kept this album and she still has it today.

  • ahhh the power of the internet...had I not searched a little bit more, I probably would've only known "Loving You" and "Memory Lane" by the late Minnie Riperton...this song right her is definitely a breath of fresh air for me so mellow yet so significant...it almost makes me cry that I've taken this long to get to know her artistry...you are appreciated Minnie...

  • I always feel like I'm a better person after listening to Minnie sing..And that is a very rare gift indeed..

Minnie was exquisite and unique, she simply made the world a far better place...

  • Can you believe that VH1 had Minnie Riperton's loving you on a show under the category of a one hit wonder? What an insult. I am so glad there are some of us who still remember and celebrate her music. what a tresure! thx

  • VH1 dosent know what the hell there doing

  • @Vidvoyeur1 , i would curse VH1, for such blatant disrespect. she was our bright superstar, an icon. we love minnie riperton for the effect her songs have even 30yrs after her passing. Way more then one.

  • A masterpiece. The sound, the melody, the voice.....

  • My mother passed away. Day before yesterday. She sure gave me alot of great music to listen to.

  • Sorry for your lost.

  • God bless you and may you stay strong.

  • One of the GREATEST songs ever created. Why don't more people know about it? Spread her around, cause she was the best.

  • Well, if you like this song, you should check out the entire album. It is more than well worth it. I listened to it many times myself (my Mom had good taste in music). And who doesn't remember wearing bib overalls back then? They were it.

  • I know I sound a little excited, but when you haven't heard a song in so many years, I guess I can't help myself. Thanks for the video!!

  • i believe it's impossible not to get moved by this song. i wouldn't even know it existed if i hadn't come across it here and will always be grateful to MrMusicRnB for that;) maybe it's my addictive personality but i usually can't help listening to it a couple of times. trying not to sound too excited myself;) peace

  • I can't believe this song is here!!!!!! I soooooooo remember this album and love it!!! I absolutely love the songs on this record. I think they are great. Hands down, so flippin' awesome! For real.

  • A Goddess!!

  • Beautiful song.

  • When this picture wastaken, was it her right breast which was removed?

  • The photo is the cover shot from her Perfect Angel album released in late 1974. She had her operation almost four years later.

  • Oh, she had it near the end of her life. I thought the cancer had gone into remission and came back later.

  • Do you have the title track? I absolutely love this song, but "Perfect Angel" is my favorite of hers. I have to say, the sound quality on this is excellent.

  • This is a beautiful song. Minnie just takes it over the top....I love this entire album. Everything about this song is great - Minnie's voice, the lyrics, the music, and especially the Stevie Wonder on Piano. PERFECT!!!

  • loved Minnie for years, this my fav, great to learn things about her life. FOREVER IN MY HEART

  • Today it would have been her 60th Birthday (November 8, 1947 -- July 12, 1979). Deep respect for this voice, quality of singing and deep emotionality. - And hey, Minnie-Baby: You still enjoy us with your hot stoff. The young generation of "wanna become a star" still can take as an excelent example, what's world class R&B. - Keep you ever in mind & heart...

  • Stevie Wonder co-produced this album with Minnie and her husband Richard Rudolph. Stevie is on piano.
